I'm developing a top-down action game where you hunt ghosts that may not always be ghosts. How is everyone else going with their games so far?
I think I'm doing good. It's my second 2d platformer game. Right now I'm designing the main levels for the game and fixing some issues with the pixel art assets that I've made. I only hope I'll make it on time. And if anyone is interested, the game I'm currently developing is a simple mini-game when the player is forced to switch between two different dimensions to finish the level. A similar mechanism can be noticed in the game called The Medium. I am highly inspired by it.
Edit: The main reason for that 'switching dimensions' mechanism is my attempt to make it clear that not everything in the game's world is real. Also, the big part of this whole concept is a mini-story that I hope will be done before the end of the jam.
I think I'm doing alright so far. I'm making a puzzle game (something I've never done before) and the idea is based on the way that things can look different in the dark. To be more specific, the silhouettes of objects can look completely different to what they actually are. So if you take that idea, you can make a puzzle game where you have to arrange objects in a certain way so that when the light is switched off, you have a brand new object that can be used to complete the level.
I'm making a top down hack and slash except...in the first level...something unique happens that completely sets the game apart from normal hack and slash games...It's my first go at 2d art for a game, though i have made 2d games before, just not 2d art for games. The perspective is a bit messed up so some animations do not really look like a top down game unfortunately. But I have finished all the base movement, attacking, enemies, the twist, etc
The remaining things I have to do are sound, a main menu, actual levels, and if I have time, story and hopefully some more complicated mechanics like dodging and other things I will not reveal here.
This is my first game jam, and so I'm not too experienced with making a game quickly, but I think I got a pretty good idea for the game. It's a top-down resource management game where you play as a guy going camping, but he isn't the most brave (and has a wild imagination). You have to handle his sanity while getting food and wood and refilling you campfire as wild animals from his imagination "attack" him and lower his sanity.
Things are going pretty smoothly so far, as I only have a few more things to add that aren't art based, which I am trying to save for last as I have never really been a good pixel artist :/
Our team is sort of experienced with jams and making games quick, but apparently not experienced enough to schedule actually making the game. We had to do everything today because we were busy every other day. Hoping some people will play it and give feedback so we can fix bugs before ratings open. Our game is a short horror-puzzle thing with PS1 style graphics. It’s our first time using that style (PS1 that is) so it’s not as polished but, hey, what can you do. Here’s a quick screenshot
Damn, my progress seems to be like 10 times slower than everyone else. Still, I think this is better than my previous jam submissions though.
Making a game where you take photos of NFTs and try to get away with it. Doesn't include real NFTs. Don't know if this is gonna end up being bad, but hey we'll know! xD
Ive finished my game so if anyone wants to check it out here's the link no-one-knows-you-exist
