It has decent visuals and I got a slight scare on the first encounter, but then it turns into a mediocre shooter once you meet the enemy more than 3 times. As other said, this is much better as a shooter designed without the horror element. I would say adding a minimap that only updates when the player enter a cave area would be helpful as I got lost a couple of times when I play it.
Got super lost, needs the camera angle brought down by 10-30 degrees, can't see behind you without a light there anyway
Definitely felt super spooky!! Having the camera locked to a top-down position felt a bit awkward though. The number wrench monsters swarming you goes from like 0 to a dozen really fast, might be nice to have more of a difficulty curve. Really great sounds!
Giving the game a quick playthrough again I realized that the directive gets stuck on finding an apparent third wreckage that doesn't exist instead of changing to "open the gate", bit late discovering it to be fixed but worth a quick mention.
So much potential for this to feel fun, but its not. I like the floaty anti-gravity feel of the ship, but its so slow I can't have any fun with it, speed up the player and let us have fun. Give the player enough speed to where THEY have to control it in an expert way. Right now its just full speed ahead to where ever youre going. Same thing with the shooting, we can shoot 1 projectile every 2 seconds? Cmon, give us a laser mini gun to let loose with! In its current stage its slow and dull, spice it up!
Yes, but horror was the main focus due to the jam theme. I do however have plans so if you're willing to wait.
I appreciated the options menu; I still have no idea how to do something like that. I did make it to the final boss! I died, though. It had a decent amount of atmosphere, too, especially the lighting. I got lost quite a bit, but I was able to find my way eventually. I also was slightly disappointed by not being able to back up, but it may have been intentional. The premise of a drone on an alien planet was good. Good job!
I had an extra day to work on the game with the plan of adding something like a map but decided against it. I am now regretting that decision because I came up with a great idea to solve the lack of a map problem that didn't make the whole experience just "follow the marker". I think I'm going to add it anyways but I will have to wait till the end of the jam.
I definitely agree with the other commenters in that there needs to be a map of some type, as well as more concrete objectives; I ended up just sort of wandering around, with no idea of where I was supposed to go. The horror was solid - darkness, you as a vulnerable little machine, flickering lights, spooky monsters - and I did like that you could fight back. I ran out of the secondary fire, and had no idea how to get more or if that was even possible, though, which was a bit lame. This game reminded me of an old flash game called Neverending Light; I’m not sure if you’ve played it? The premise isn’t too similar, but the vibes are quite reminiscent of that old thing, and I really liked that. Overall, great work!
It definitely horror themed! I like the spooky atmosphere.
I also agree with the other commenters, I felt like I needed a minimap or something. Everything looks kinda the same and I got lost all the time.
I don't understand the objectives either, "Get to safety" and I found my way back to the starting hangar. But the objective didn't change...
Really interesting mix of 3D and top-down. Loved the ambiance, very spooky. The controls are intuitive and the lack of backwards motion made for a more unique gameplay experience.
That being said, it's pretty easy to get lost in the world. I would have liked to see some kind of map - maybe some kind of sensors or fog-of-war system to keep from spoiling the player, or simply more navigational aids.
I did like the enemies - they could be really tricky to see sometimes, which made the experience all the more spooky.
Starting off, the horror theme was definitely there, and it was pretty solid in terms of scare at the start of the game, especially with the sound. The game takes a little bit of time to figure out what to do, (in the time you are mainly exploring), which can get a little boring, but once you progress more it becomes better in terms of enjoyment. The game has a nice overall aesthetic along with the textures and HUD, and there are no real bugs as well. Overall a very good game!
Theme: Scared me the first time, afterwards it was just cruising
Fun: No clear progress, got boring after 5 minutes
Game Design: Very static looking game. Physics are a bit too hard.
ok so, ima go like the rating system, the game had a nice atmosphere but sadly it wasnt very scary, the best it had was the odd screech of an enemy surprising you. the game is very fun, especially the combat, it was very well done! but the game does get very boring at times. Game Design wise its very solid and well done, but the bigest problem the game has is that the whole map looks the same and there are no mission markers, so there is a ton of accidental back tracking and i got very lost sometimes. all in all solid game amd very well done!
