  • Oh this was so good and so frustrating in equal measure! Such a brilliant concept, too - the way the power-ups speed towards the player adds a whole other dimension to factor in when timing dropping them. Visually it was brilliant and I loved the music and effects. Solid, polished, mostly on-theme and unique. I feel like a nice player affordance would be for you to drop a 'marker' at the top when you use a power-up, like a ghost-marker, so you can see it on your next playthrough. I appreciate that may make the game easier, but believe me, by level 5 I really needed it! :)

It seems like a simple game, but unexpectedly enjoyable. When I come across such well-made, enjoyable games or pixel art pictures, I immediately want to try making a game in the pixel art style myself.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and the nice words. The pixel art is not my own. I used an asset pack from Kenney and edited it a bit.

Love this entry!

the description says it was made for gamedevjs 2023. did you mean 2024?

Developer

Thanks for the nice feedback. Thanks also for the hint. Looks like I was living in the past :).

such a nice and cozy game! The art style and music fit well. Great Job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the nice feedback. The art is based on an asset pack, but the music is home made :).

Cool game! Impressive and innovative idea. The overall gameplay experience feels like a mix of puzzle and action games. Even though I'm not skilled in action game, I still find myself wanting to try again and again! Additionally, the 1-bit art style is fantastic. Well done!!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and the nice feedback. The 1-bit art is an asset pack and I added some modifications and draw a few of the animations I needed. Art is not my strong point :).

Fun game! Definitely unique - felt like an auotbattler/puzzle platformer. Difficulty was well-managed, getting to 10 was tough! A few things I might change:

I liked the graphics but there could have been some more animations/fx/colour changes, maybe to highlight which power is active (1-bit really shines because of how easy it is to change)

The music was good but didn’t really fit with the aesthetics - I would also have added some random pitch/tone variation when dropping the powerups

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and the constructive feedback. Art is not my strongest thing, so I tried to keep it this time very simple with a 1 bit asset pack. I experimented a bit with color, but left it then out for this jam. When I composed the music I also had the feeling that it does not really fit the game, but due to time restrictions I had no other choice than just take the first thing which came out of my guitar :). However, it seems to be a bit controversial topic, as some people liked the music quite well. I am more on your side, some 8 bit music would have probably been much better. Thanks for the hint with the random pitch/tone.

I love seeing more and more Phaser games!  I really enjoyed your game!  The concept of feeding the player with powerups is new to me and your implementation is very well executed!  I died a lot at the beginning until I got the hang of it.  I will definitely come back to this for more attempts!  Well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Yes, balancing the game after I have done a lot of play testing and getting good at it is always a difficult thing :). I tought this time I made the first levels easy enough, but it looks like they need to be even simpler or I need to provide some hints to get the player through the first few levels.

This game is very fun and unique! Nice job!

Thanks for playing and the nice feedback!

The cover page is already a joy to read. I like how you enlisted your resources to make your game.

I also like the goofy music and the SE when the player pops.

The timing is a bit hard and thankfully the player gets a speed boost for the rocket.

I managed to get to Level 3 but I have to rate other games (oh well..)

Developer

Thanks a lot for taking the time and playing it! Agree that there are a lot of other great games to play and you cannot spend a lot of time playing every game. Happy you liked the music as I did the track by myself.
PS: Very cool you took the time to read the page :). I like to mention my tools I use, as it might help others in finding their new favorite tool :).

I absolutely clutched that last level. The visual style worked very well, and there was interesting core mechanics at play. 10/10 would play again.

Developer

Thanks a lot for the nice feedback and playing it through! I tried to keep the art simple this time and used an asset pack for it. My art skills are pretty bad, so I just edited the asset pack a bit. Happy you liked the core mechanic as I try to be always innovative with my mechanics.

I like that delayed delivery of the powerup, really challenging. The music is outstanding!

Good job!

Thanks for playing and the nice feedback. I always try some new mechanics in game jams. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't :). Happy about the compliment for the music, as I put everything together on my own and was not sure if it really fits the game.
Looking forward to your game!

really amazing game, great art and sound effects, what most i like that it's playable in phones, web games usually are for desktop, i ended up finishing it

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing it all the way through. 28 deaths is really impressive! I try to make sure I optimize it also for mobile, in this way I can easily send it to friends and family :). Thanks for the nice feedback!

Good game.

Developer

Thanks for the short and nice feedback :).

This game is so greaaaat. I enjoyed this, well done (44 death :') )

Developer

Thanks for the very nice feedback. Congrats to make it through with 44 deaths only! I think this is very good!

The take on the theme is veeery clever! The gamplay is intresting and once  you make the first couple of try to get the timing right become very fun but still challenging. Simple, but simplicity made right it's difficult to achieve. You menage to made it! Great work! Also love the retro art style!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and the comprehensive feedback! Glad you liked it. The art is not my own. As my art skills really suck :), I used an asset pack this time and edited it a bit.

interesting mechanics, well done

Developer

Thanks for playing and the nice feedback.

It was difficult at first, but after getting the hang of the mechanic it became fun. I like how it get more and more difficult, and that we have to combine power-ups to complete certain stages. It was an aha-moment when I combined speed with jump to get past the hindrance. I completed all levels, and was satisfied, well done.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and congrats you made it through :). Takes some practice. I am happy the time I invested to set the difficulty paid out. Just with the last two levels I am not so happy. Level 9 felt a bit more difficult than 10, but maybe it is just me.
Thanks for the nice feedback. Looking forward to play your game.

Submitted

I also thought level 10 was easier than 9, but that’s a good thing if you ask me. Having the last level be slightly easier than the previous may leave the player wanting more.

Submitted

Very cool game. Love the concept and the pixelart. So good!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and the feedback. Glad you liked it. The art however is not mine. Just used an asset pack and modified it a bit.

This is such a cool idea! Was hard to get the timing down but I liked that retrying is so quick. Really like the art and the music too. Great work team!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, agree it takes a while to get into it. Happy the retrying feels good, because you might need to do it a few times :). The art is an asset pack (with some edits from me), but the music is fully handmade.

Submitted

Cool concept, nice pixel art.

Developer

Thank you for giving my game a try and the compliments :).

Liked the idea 😁
