The gameplay could need a bit of improvement. If I pressed a key it was often unclear if I would just skip the customer or not. They approach with one item then the bartering occurs on another one...

Instead of just entering a number it would be nice if there were a few options to chose from, like "+1", "+5", "+10", "+25%", "what the customer's asking"...

And if I haggled to the end the next customer(s) often would ask that amount and as their final offer.

Won/Game Over screen needs a quit option for a standalone build.

Hey nice game and concept. Keep at the gamedev! I reckon there's definitely a space for more comedy and quirkiness in fantasy games (ala Pratchett) as so many are just too serious.

Think I might re-read my old Discworld books once I get my library (and luggage) over to where I am at the moment :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much. Dungeonmans is roguelike fantasy game with lots of comedy if you like that sort of vibe. It's very well done. Happy I could inspire you to read!

Thanks for the suggestion! Looks like quite the wild roguelike :)

Wow, the visuals are really good!
Very nice gameplay as well, good job!
btw if you can play the game that I made and give me some feedback I really appreciate it :)

Really neat take on the theme, I like the whole pawn shop thing and think you could add on to it a lot. I played it tonight on my livestream and if you want to see the replay for the feedback you can check it out from this link

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing it on your stream! I held off on adding a limit to the number of offers made because I couldn't figure a good way for players to intuitively figure out if an item was fake and I didn't want to punish them too much or make it too hard. Thank you for the feedback.

Rincewind… Where did I read that name? Pretty nice take on the theme, I appreciate you made your own art. Some audio would be great.

Developer(+1)

Rincewind is a wizard in Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. I chose the name because of his luck and you need a bit of luck when deciding to buy the items in the game.  Thanks for noticing the name you've been the only one so far!

Artstyle is great and I would definitely continue this approach. What needs to be refined in my opinion is the gameplay. For now it is promising, but some form of checking if the item is valuable would be good plus a better negotiation system also would be useful. For now, you can work around it so that you keep on suggesting "1" until the other side comes down to the lowest price.

Maybe a simple system that if the price is too low 2-3 times, there is no transaction.

Developer(+1)

I agree there is a lot of room for refining the mechanics and I think there is a lot that can be added and expanded upon. I've gotten a lot of ideas after the jam of ways to expand if I feel like it. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

Fun game!  Expand it after the jam, please!

This was fun to play, really unique and good take on the art. Would be great to see this expanded out more!

Great visuals! Simple, stylish and fun. Good job!

Nice, unique and interesting Aesthetic for the game.
Text position/size could do with a tweak.
Barter system logic also.
And perhaps a few SFX/music.
But great concept and look :).

Submitted(+1)

Nice game, has potential. Need to work on the barter system a bit If I just put 0 and spam offer I can quickly get to the lowest offer available.

Music would be nice also!

Great job finishing a working game!

A very nice idea for a game. The negotiation system can definitely develop further. Love the art style. Also some background music will be nice.

Good work.

Nice idea for a take on this theme. The text was positioned right over a black line in the background, making it more difficult to read. Moving the text up or giving it it's own background would help a lot. I also quickly broke the bartering mechanic when I realized I could offer 1 gold to make them keep going down until they hit their low, then offer the low. This resulted in the last few offers always asking for 105 and never more or less. Good framework though!

Lovely art. Did you handpaint these then scan them in?

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Thank you , I did hand paint them and scan them in. I don't have a drawing tablet so that was the next best thing I could think of.

Submitted(+1)

As others have said, I think the negotiating mechanic could use some tweaking but you've got a really cool game started here. Hope you continue to work on it. The art style immediately jumped out to me and made me want to play it.

Good base mechanic idea! I think if you can add a bit more feedback and context (e.g. when you made a good deal, how much does it cost, and possibly how much it cost on average, etc) it will be a lot better!

Nice merchantizing!

I like the idea and I think the negotiation mechanics would need some improvements. I could offer 50 gold for an item and the mechanic would lower the price asked by the adventurer to the lowest he could go and then buy it. Also, if the adventurer asked me to pay 250 as its lowest, he could only accept 251 gold for some reason. Thanks for sharing :)

Developer (1 edit)

I believe I know the cause of them not accepting what they are asking for and will get a bug fix out soon. I also agree the negotiation mechanics have room for improvement. Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT: I have fixed the mentioned bug.

A guy wants to get 181 for a ring, offer 181... He replies "Could you do 194?"... I'm not sure that's how negotiation works. Like the idea, but I feel like the barter mechanic requires some bug fix.

Submitted(+1)

I actually found out that I can just bid 1$ first, than keep bidding 1$ until the request price doesn't change and just give them 1$ over the request price to always win. Might want to fix this :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for letting me know about this bug I'll see if I can get a fix out soon.  Also I'm aware you can just mash $1 offers I didn't have time to devise a way to "punish" players for doing that and just hoped they wouldn't haha. Thanks for your feedback!

EDIT: I believe I have fixed them raising their asking prices.

Great idea!

I just don't quite understand how the player can recognize the real or fake items, maybe if it were possible to see the seller, and looking for inconsistencies would be easier. An example: an archer tries to lie to you saying that he cut a dragon's horn with his sword.

Developer

Having visual markers on each item in order to tell if it was fake was my original intention, but as I was doing the art I couldn't think of a intuitive sign for every item. I like your idea a lot better than visual markers. Thank you for your feedback!

Very nice visuals. And i love the joke in the beginning. :p
