Nice game!
I really liked the text font, the visuals, and especially the lightning.
btw if you can play the game that I made and give me some feedback I really appreciate it :)
This is a gem for sure, so many things I really like about this and everything is very polished and smooth. I played it tonight on my livestream and gave my thoughts about it as i played if you want to see it you can below
Thanks for the comment and streaming my game :)
This is wonderful, one of my favorites in the jam! The game loop is great and it gets you hooked to wanna play one more after running out of battery. The visuals are great, the sounds really add to the mood. Maybe a high score table would be a good addition. Awesome game, well done!
ps: I would like to second heckert about the source code: rar archive in the github? :D If you could do another commit with the extracted files that would be nice :)
Thanks for the comment and feedback!
Online Highscore is very high on my priority list for upcoming updates :)
About the .rar file, It says something like: "Yowza, that’s a lot of files. Try again with fewer than 100 files." As soon as I upload the project. I will try to find a workaround :|
Online highscore would be great \o/ :)
You could try using GitHub Desktop (if you are on windows/mac).
Seriously, your git repo has a rar archive of the source instead of individual files?
yeah, it says: "Yowza, that’s a lot of files. Try again with fewer than 100 files. " and I didn't knew how to avoid this problem, so I uploaded it as .rar. I will give it another try...
Strange. I never encountered such an issue with git, but then this may be something with github...
The best way to avoid it would have been to make several commits during the development progress, that would automatically spread the amount of files out. But that's possibly a moot point by now.
Just think about it for the next project. Setting up version control right at the start keeps you from getting headaches later..
Nice submission.
Did you code the shadows by yourself or is that new feature from Unity?
Overall a good polished game with game boy graphics. I'm a huge fan of game boy era, played it a lot.
Well done :)
Thanks for the comment :)
The light/shadow effect is a build -in feature by Unity.
Definitely one of my favorites for this jam, great work on the game!
Nice minigame with a quite literal interpretation of the theme! Kind of hard, but I liked it.
Nice game! I got to level 8 and ran out of battery with one coin left, doh.
Great lighting and shadows - URP crew represent! :D
Thanks for the comment :)
I always wanted to try the URP with all those light and shadow effects. It's a lot of fun :). Next I will check out is normal maps in combination with light.
Nice simple game with simple mechanic that fits the theme! I think the movement can be more tight for a game like this, but otherwise a good submission!
Thanks for the feedback, maybe I will tweak the movement. Post-jam update is planned.
One of the best interpretations of the theme. It works great and looks cool :)
Thanks for the comment :)
Very cool game! And your first ever release?? I'm impressed. The music and sound effects fit the art style perfectly, I love that you can kind of see without the flashlight, but you give the player a good incentive to use it. If you add a bit more to the gameplay and bring in a few interesting twists to the core game loop, this could become a full game. :)
Thanks a lot for the feedback :) makes me really happy. Maybe I will add more after everything around the jam ended!
Really enjoyed this one. Simple idea but very convincing, with enough strategy in it to keep me hooked for a while. Also one of the best ones I've played in terms of the jam's theme.
Only constructive comment I can think of is that I would have liked a bit more variety in the music (or a longer loop at least), it can get a bit repetitive after a while.
Btw, is there an end? If so, how many levels? (if that's not too much of a spoiler). I died on level 11 but I'm sure I can do better. :)
Thanks a lot for the feedback :)
MUSIC:
Yeah, the music is very simple, I didn't want to spend too much time on it. It's created with https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-Maker. The easiest way to create music ;)
A special feature about the music (I guess nobody noticed) is, that the music stops/start at the same point when switching between game/level complete/game over screens. Making it a smooth transition.
END:
The game is endless, I wanted it this way. The plan was to create a online highscore so the players could challange each other. There are acutally 13 levels (each level increase the gold/fake coin). The 13 level has 10 Goldcoins and 8 Fakecoins and will repeat forever! The numbers are fix, so if you figure out how much fakecoins are in the current level, there is a hugh advantage ;)
Very much on theme, love the mood and rated it highly.
I think my torch didn't work on level 3, will have to retest.
Good job!
Thanks a lot for the feedback :) Maybe the battery was empty ?
Nice work!
Thank you for the comment :)
Honestly I went on full battery save mode and I still couldn't make it beyond level 8 lol.
nevertheless you made an awesome game and the idea was brilliant and I loved those cute foot steps of our detective lool.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot :) The footsteps were added last, but this small change had a huge effect :)
This game is simple yet super interesting! I don't know if you planned this but once I got to understand how to play I was trying to place myself into an angle that would get as many coins as possible to achieve the best result :P Good job!
That's the best way to check the coins without using up the flashlight battery too quickly ;) You also have a advantage if you know how many real and fake coins are in the level.
It's impressive how strategic this game can become. Keeping track of the coin you've already checked, the total number of coin in the room and the number of real one, you can make a lot of deduction and save on battery life (literally). I really like how everything works together to make the game!
This was a fun little game! I blew it at first by keeping my flashlight on the whole time and draining the battery. :) but there was a good learning curve. One thing I noticed is a few times my character kinda slid a bit when the next level loaded. Not a big deal except one time there was a fake coin right near him and he almost slid into it. I like the fact that there's a bit of a slide when you stop moving though. Adds to the difficulty level and is another thing for the player to try to master.
Yeah I should update the tutorial showing what to do and also that the battery is your healthbar.
The sliding character movement at the start is a known bug, I just didn't figured out, how to fix it :/
Actually there is a kinda difficulty level by adding more gold and fake coins in each round. But there is space for more :)
I would like to add a online-highscore so people can challange each other, but that would be a new feature. Maybe after the jam :)
I'm not sure if I faced a bug or not, but at the start of the game nothing was shinning (I was not using the torch), and after my first game over, everything was shinning.
So I had a little disaster in my gameplay.
I love how you made the shadows, in the walls and the coins. Quite interesting.
Hi, thank you for the feedback. This bug sounds new to me, it works normal for me idk...
The shadow is made via Unity Shadow Caster 2D.
This is a really good game! Its easy to pick up and the music and art really bring it all together. I would be awesome if you could buy different perks too. Like a shield that prevents 1 coin from reducing your battery.
Thanks for the feedback :) I would like to add a few more feature and upgrades for the flashligh. I like the idea with the shield :)
