Super good! I loved the game! And since I got ending 2, I think there are multiple endings? Nice done really, super polished, nice gameplay, nice story. Loved it
Yes there are 2 endings, it is just a difference of 2 words though, so you are not missing out much. Thank you for trying the game out and reaching the end!
Excellent Game! Loved the visuals and audio and the puzzle aspect, the constraint of a very short lifespan per spawn and respawning from different locations during the same playthrough worked really well, level design showed off some good examples of varying spawn points as tactical advantages for different objectives. dialogue was clever and humorous. Smart move having spacebar force an instant respawn, helps with player patience. With more dev time I could see some definite potential in varying the lifespan or pickups to do so, maybe dependency chains between the objectives also for some nonlinearity in each overall task (and of course boss fights, wakka wakka!). Very well done, played all the way through.
Thank you so much for playing the game and for the detailed feedback! We have so many ideas for the puzzle, but we don't have time to implement them. We will try to implement better-designed puzzles in the future. Thanks again!
It took me a while to understand it but once I did I was able to get to Ending 2! Woot. Good job on your submission, I liked the art quite a bit! The concept is good, I'd love to see where it goes if you continue working on it!
EDIT: Sorry for the double post.
Thank you so much! We're very grateful for your kind words!
woha! that was a wild ride! thank you for that thought-ful and -provoking experience!
the art was wonderful - especially the character portraits were top notch! Hades better watch out!
the gameplay was quite good as well and natural fit to the story. but it was freaking hard as well!
i guess the learning curve was pretty steep because of that narrow window of opportunity each time, but I enjoyed the world and story so much, that i endured and I'm glad I did. It did feel quite rewarding in the end.
super impressive entry - you should be very proud.
also: QUADRATIC GAMES FOR THE WIN!
You are too kind man! ;) You are absolutely correct. The learning curve is quite steep (mainly because the tutorial is poorly done and we don't have enough levels to ramp up the difficulty gradually). Thank you so much for playing! We're glad people seem to enjoy the game we've built.
The art for this is absolutely gorgeous. Everything from the game assets in the top down mode to the close-up art of the characters and the design of the page itself. I felt that the game was a bit too hard for me. I did make it to the 3rd or 4th level, but I found that I barely had time to register where I had spawned before something killed me.
there's an indicator that tells you were you will spawn next, like a grey flame symbol - but it took me a while to figure that out ;-)
Thank you so much for your praise! It means a lot! We will be more aware of the difficulty issue of our games in the future. Thank you for giving our game a try!
You happened to be reviewing the games that I was reviewing, so I figured I'd give yours a go as well. I love the story and the gameplay so much! "We don't have enough development time for that" made me actually laugh out loud. Maybe the timer was a little fast? That could be my only feedback, because sometimes I'd catch a corner or not move fast enough and then I'd have to wait for the whole rotation again. But overall, really awesome job!
P.S. I loved the music! It reminded me of old school Doom music. So great work on that.
Thank you for giving our game a chance! i'm glad you enjoy the writing and the music. Many have reported that the timer is a bit fast, so it is definitely not only you. We will be revisiting the difficulty, and especially the tutorial when we have the chance.
This is well crafted. I enjoyed the story, it seems like it tells the solemn story of a person fighting agoraphobia. It felt like something the right mostly faced, it is very engaging. The art was beautiful, I really enjoyed the hand drawn aesthetic of the characters. The music and sound both played very well into the setting. The mechanic was nice but jarring. It took me a second to get my bearings at each level, while I just bounced around start positions. When I got the hang of it it was a nice fun puzzle. Awesome Job, I really enjoyed this one.
Thank you for taking the time to play and read the story! The story is a meditation on escapism, which I think everyone has faced at some point in their life. But I think agoraphobia also fits, so I'm glad you find meaning in it. Yes, the difficulty can be quite high at the start. Thank you for not giving up and pushing through!
It's tooo haaaaard! Hahaha :D I'm a terrible gamer, honestly. Don't take my word for it. I was dying on average once every 0.5 seconds on the second level with the watching eyes. It was like a drum machine of death sounds.
I love the intro, the music and the story. Personally I liked it more than the actual game, but understand full well that.. well then it'd just be a story, right? :D The art is really nice, the mechanics were smooth, it looked amazing. So all positives apart from my personal experience that I just suck at the game.
I did notice 1 thing, accidentally - the music stops when you drag the page down by clicking the middle mouse button. (my scroll wheel is broken so this is how I go about.. it'll likely go unnoticed otherwise)
Well done, thanks for your submission!
Thank you for giving the game a try! I'm glad you like the story and the music.
I think it has less to do with you being bad and more to do with the mechanics not being properly introduced (we should've done better). Others have also reported the difficulty spike in level 2. In level 2, all 4 spawn points are out of sight. So one tip is to not move at all and just sit there and look at the map. You can infinitely respawn so take your time. If you move you will die faster. You will soon notice that only one key point is actually reachable initially! ;)
If you are willing, please give it another try! Thank you again for playing!
The Concept is very interesting in a good way
the art was so good
the mechanics was great
the music was awesome
the story and the whole idea itself
it is quite good and really does have potential to be on the front page of steam
Thank you for the high praise! We will continue to work hard to make good games!
Was nice and a bit timey, was confused due to how quickly I respawn, but really nice concept.
Thank you so much for playing and rating our game!
Very nice and polished game. I would suggest making it more obvious what soul (blue fire) thing is playing I found that half time I'm just trying to figure out where I am and then I just die.
Thank you for playing! There is much feedback on the same problem, and we already have a couple ideas that should adequately tackle this issue.
Simple gameplay concept, but with twists that makes it fun and interesting. Was having a bit of trouble keeping track of the player when he spawned, some visual clue after he spawns to catch the player eyes would be good. The art looks great. Nicely done.
Thank you for taking the time to review our game!
i got stuck at second lvl :(. nice art btw
i got stuck at second lvl :(. nice art btw
Thank you so much for testing the game out! The difficulty jump in level 2 can be pretty steep so here's a hint: All 4 spawn points are safe from the watchers, so you can take your time and pay attention to the map. Initially, only one key point is actually reachable.
Please do give the game a second try!
Really cool game. Looks like it was inspired by Hades, wasn't it?
The story is really nice and funny. I'd make the characters dimmed a bit more when they are not speaking - now I had trouble to get who is speaking sometimes.
Cheers!
Yes. We should've made a portrait for the main character, but we don't have time. dialogues in "" are said by the MC but I think I've made a few mistakes! Thank you for reading and sorry for the confusion! :)
As for our inspirations, yes, Hades was our main inspiration for both art and music. Another important one for art was Helltaker. But the gameplay mechanics were not particularly inspired by any games. It was mostly the product of experimentation and inspiration from time-traveling stories like Steins;Gate.
This game is awesome! I love your drawings and the writing, the music, and the overall vibe, you're both very talented. Great work!
Thank you! We spent many hours on this so we're glad you like it.
super interesting mechanic, and i thought the art and overall style of the game was lovely :) it was really fun to puzzle out how to time everything properly, and i think it was just such a great way to incorporate the theme :) honestly the only thing was i kept accidentally skipping the dialogue even tho i wanted to read, but that's really minor :) liked this a lot!
Thank you for taking the time to play it. Appreciate you!
Awesome game and I had fun beating it! Art, music and mechanics are great! I did feel a little dizzy trying to figure out where I would I spawn next. Maybe for a game like this, have the player pick their spawn rather than cycle through. Still keep the timer when the player expires.
Yes, the respawn system needs some adjusting. Maybe more visual cues, adjust the timing, etc.. We will look more into it post-jam. Thank you for playing!
Really great game. The art, the music and the mechanic works perfectly.
Thank you very much!
