Great game!

Really loved the art, character model is AMAZING, really beautiful and easy to remember!

Interesting mechanic with making trampoline from that cute thingy that i was forced to slap to tears (feel really bad about it), and it creates a lot of possibilities for secrets, really felt sense of wonder while playing, and that's awesome feeling!

Clipped through ground on first level, places trampoline under myself and that's clipped me right into wall, also on my first walkthrough i completed first level without that mechanic, just jumped on that cute thingy and that's how i made it, and when i got on second level was stuck for a looong time because i didn't know that i could make them as trampolines, so maybe make that you can't complete that level without using that mechanic! (or maybe i just i didn't see that i made that creature trampoline)

Overall, nice music, sfx, art, style and gameplay, really love to see this game evolve, great mechanic and great opportunities to expand it!

Developer

Thanks for playing and I really appreciate your comment!

That's a very interesting bug you found in level 1.  I encountered it once where you could jump up the cliff without transmuting the shroom,  but I couldn't replicate it. My new approach is scrapping the 2D tile set for 3D ones and going with a capsule collider in lieu of a box for the character.  This should make the collision a little less finicky. I think the project is going to evolve more in a metroidvania direction, especially now that I'll have more time to think about things. I hope to add in all sorts of lore and secrets. :)

great SFXs, music, art style & story  but if you add a tutorial for the game it would be great

I could not beat level 2, even if I perched right at the edge I could not make the jump. I tried doing it all in 1 go where you don't stop at the high platform and just grab the essence as you go but that didn't work either. I tried placing the corpse closer to the edge but it didn't turn into the bounce platform. Other people mention getting to level 3 so I guess its just me but I tried at least half a dozen times and could not get the jump right.

Overall, I found the mix of art styles to be a little off-putting. Its clear that a lot of work went in to the characters and animations but the background art looks like it was done very low res then stretched, its pixelated but not in a intentional pixel-art looking way (not that that would have worked either for me)

Sweet and peaceful and although you're not the only one that chose a nature theme, it still makes a change from all the zombies and ghosts.

Developer

I think you were trying to reach the secret area of level 2. It's a hard jump to make . However to go to level 3, collect the second essence on the tall platform, and walk back to sunflower. I did not have enough time for level design, so I could have communicated better what the essence do and how many you needed to activate the sunflower to go to the next level.

I do intend to add more to this game and convert it to 2.5D . I'm not sure if it will bring everything together more cohesively, but it should add a little bit of flavor to environment. Thanks for playing!

The idea of making use of the enemy corpse is intriguing. Hope to see more of this

Really cool game and awesome concept. I would love to see a volume slider in the future and more ease when it comes to combat and picking up the bodies but it was a fun experience! The flower petal healthbar was a nice touch!

Really cool game and interesting idea.   I had a great time playing the game and exploring the world and mystery of who these characters were and what would happen next.  Keep up the great work and thanks for submitting :).

Great idea and a really fun game! Hey a cute spirit girl appeared! Wait you want me to end my enemies and gather their essence?? Sounds like a red flag to me lol

The flower petals as a health bar was a really cool idea!

Developer(+1)

I'm sure she only wants what's best for the forest and Sprite. I'm hoping to expand on their relationship after the submission review.  Thanks for playing!

Great game! I like it :)

At third level if i fall under the map nothing happened :)

Developer(+1)

Someone forgot to add the death trigger for level 3...You can reset the current the level by pushing esc to pause and then r to reset.

Thanks for playing!

The music and the art are really really good! I love the design of the characters and how the story is efficiently presented in the beginning.
The animations looks really good as well as the essence concept, being able to turn the critters into springs to get higher is a really fun mechanic, especially when you are near the end and you need multiple of them to get up on the 3 tricky platforms.
Great work there!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked the music and art. I was hoping to add multiple ends, but perhaps for a later update. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Woah, how did you make the characters? Were they modelled in 3d and the converted to 2d? However you did it, the end result was really unique. I did get stuck at one point, but I thought the mechanics were pretty neat!

Developer

Glad you liked the characters! I've been developing and automating the technique over the last year. They are 2D vectors using Blender's greasepencil. It is somewhat similar to 2D cut-out animation, however I developed a way to interpolate between different reference positions, such as front  to side-quarter to side.  It enables me to pose the 2D drawing and move body parts around while also sliding them to different reference position. This can be clearly seen with the heads, as the rotate along the forward axis, but they seemingly rotate around the up and right axis. This gives it a 3D effect.

I think I'm going to try turning the game into 2.5D, so a true 3D environment, while keeping the characters the same.  I think it may further improve the style.  Thanks for playing!

Congrats on the submission! I attacked the forest creature at the beginning and it started crying, making me feel like a monster! I love how this breaks the norm of most platformers where wandering critters are enemies. However, I couldn't figure out how to jump up onto the ledge where the sunflower was, so I ended up wandering around the starting area until I got bored.

All of the animations are amazing. The characters looked so 3D, the little enemies with animated appendages, and their transform animation into a mushroom. The woman character chilling out in the environment, sitting on a ledge etc, really brought the game to life. Is it all actually 2D? or is it 3D models with 2D effect? whichever one it looks super nice.

Gameplay wise its an interesting concept, using the corpses of the enemy to complete the level, sort of like wildlife reclaiming what has died. In terms of issues, the whip had a super sort range, I felt like I had to be on top of the enemy to get within range. But overall a really nice entry, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Really happy you liked the animations. I spent over a year developing and automating the technique. Happy to be able to use it in this GameJam.   It does take a lot time to set up, which burned through a day of jam, but its well worth it. With it I can generate almost any animation I need by posing it. I have a few animations when I was developing it on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGw3zb-LX3QmqQO5IkIbzqw.

Submitted(+1)

those animations on youtube are so polished, a lovely style. I hope you use it for more games in the future, it fits really well :)

Submitted(+1)

Art style is on point, this could look real good with enough time and polish. Gameplay was a bit stiff and jittery but it was functional. I really liked the whip animation, it looks properly over the top :) It was a cool idea to transmute corpses into useful items, good use of the theme. Cheers!

Developer

Thanks for playing!  Originally, I had plan to make more enemy varieties which would turn into more items. I'm hoping to add more to the game after the ratings are over. So many great games to go through :)!

Submitted(+1)

Thanks for the game. The art looks great and it's fun to jump around. Thanks a lot.

Nice game, really lovely art work.

I came across a bug where if you fall off the edge on the last level it doesn't restart the level and you're just kinda stuck at the bottom of the map off screen.

Really good submission tho

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

Yeah, due to time constraints, I didn't really test level 3.  Turns out, I completely forgot to put in a death trigger under that level. Level 1 is also missing part of the death trigger in the secret area of the level.

You can restart the current level by pushing Esc and then pushing R.

Beautiful artwork and animations. Good work!

Submitted(+1)

nice game,  adding some more sound effects would enhance it a lot.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I wished I had more time to develop sounds for the game. While I was working on it, I really couldn't think of anything besides the whip, which is just me clapping my hands together.  I've since had some ideas, so hopefully I'll be able to implement these in an update.

Submitted(+1)

Very nice game. I like it. But please post some images of the game on your itch.io page. Otherwise the players will not download the game.

Developer

Thanks for playing, Eren! You're right, I've added some screenshots.

Great job! Your game has a lovely vibe to it, and I'd love to see what could be done with it in the future. =)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I hope more people check out your submission!

I make the drawnings? It's a very cute game.

Nice job

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes, I made all the assets for the game. All the art was made in Blender. I was able to accomplish the animations through rigging the sprites.  I spent the first day of jam just creating Sprite and rigging them. Once the rigs were done, any animation that I needed took no more than 15 minutes to generate.
