A very smart idea for a game.Great job!

Developer

Haha, someone called me smart. Thanks for taking the time to play!

Oh man I love the aesthetic so much, it's so simple but striking. I love the little wobbly animations and how well it looks floating in the center of a black webpage. The music is very fitting too. I love the quirky writing, I had a huge smile on my face the whole time. Looking over the comments and replies here it sounds like there are ways that the stories can interact, I might have to go back and try more things because I'm not sure I experienced that. There were a couple moments when I thought the game was stuck but I found out I just needed to flip a bunch more times. Such a unique and gorgeous submission, I love it!

Developer (1 edit)

Both of your issues (it's unclear how the stories interact and game seeming to be stuck sometimes) are consistent with what I've got on my list to change for a post-jam update, so... Hurrah! I don't have more things to change! Jokes aside, it seriously is great to get feedback that mirrors others have said because it reassures me that what I plan to change really needs it. So I really do appreciate the feedback!

Oh! And I'm glad you like my goofy little style! Thanks so much for taking the time to play and comment!

An interesting game, i like the idea of the two stories but i feel it could be a lot better if the stories combined a little bit more to make a lot of different combinations. However both stories are funny and the artstyle and music fits really well.

Developer(+1)

One hundred percent agree. There are actually quite a few ways the stories can affect each other currently, but I think it's just too hard to tell that it's happening. Definitely something I'm working on fixing for a post-jam update! Thanks for taking the time to play and leave feedback!

A clever idea with some really funny dialog.

Developer

Glad you liked it! I try my damnedest to be funny, and while it frequently fails, I think it's so worth it when it works. Thanks for playing!

This game is brilliant. Every aspect of this game are coherently tuned to the theme, like the color usage, and even small details like the text layout. Character designs are phenomenal and story is hilariously clever. One of my favourites!

Developer(+1)

So glad you enjoyed it! I sort of did just take my hands off the wheel and let the theme guide me for this one. The only idea I had going in was that I wanted to make something in Twine again. Thanks for taking the time to play and comment!

TELL THE OLD LADY TO GIVE MY QUARTER BACK

Developer

I can try, but she won't listen to me either.

Submitted(+1)

Very nice art and animations. The aesthetics of the game are top notch. Great job.

Developer(+1)

So glad folks dig the art! It's simple, but I thought it would work with this tonally, not to mention nice for a jam project. Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Love the art work and I really love how the music fits the tone of the game as well.

Your storytelling style shines through this medium and this is a neat experience. It's very cool seeing the subtle differences as you go through the game.

Developer

Yeah, those subtle differences are what it's all about. Hoping to amplify that somewhat in the post-jam update. Thanks for playing!

(+1)

Cool little game. The music was nice with shifting small animations. Liked the little story to!

Developer (1 edit)

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Very funny and cute, the music fit it perfectly :D

I liked the idea and you have a knack for storytelling, quirky little story which was fun to have a look at.

Sometimes it seemed like I couldn't get anywhere, it just had the flip option and no matter how many times I flipped it didn't work, I just went settings and deleted save and got it working that way though!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the issues you had are on my list of things to fix for a post-jam update for sure. I think this is mostly the fault of bad game design on my end; some of the parts where folks are getting stuck actually require some flipping to proceed (specifically, if you ended up stuck while waiting). In retrospect, that was a stupid idea, haha.

But I'm glad you were able to find some enjoyment (and keep things moving along) nonetheless. Thanks for taking the time to play and leave some feedback! Really appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

Man this was great :D  Super cute, adorable art, the animations are such a great touch with (hopefully) not too much effort on your side, super quirky story with achievement hunting and very fitting music!

I had a blast playing :D Great job!

Developer(+1)

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! That cutesy, doodley artstyle is kind of becoming my go-to lately; I feel like it's the right combination of not being difficult for one non-artist (me) to put together and not being totally eye-searing, haha. Thanks for taking the time to play!

Submitted(+1)

Loved the little characters & their animations - you have an awesome art style. Felt very cohesive overall. Appreciated something a little more comedic & story driven. Only note would be that the reset could be a little simpler to do. Thanks for creating this :)

Developer(+1)

Ah, that's a good point. Probably could build out some more UI in general, so everything doesn't have to be done from the menu. Not something I'd thought about, but definitely adding it to the list of things for the post-jam update!

Thanks for taking the time to play! Glad I could break things up a bit with the humor and story.

Submitted(+1)

It was just a tiny thing tho, otherwise it was totally epic imo. Excited to play it if you develop it further!

Submitted(+1)

I appreciated being able to say an awkward 'thanks, you too' to the cashier. Just like real life.  Strange idea but fun!

Developer(+2)

Thanks, you too.

Submitted(+1)

I really want to give this game a try because it looks like it's my style but when I load it up and press "Continue" I get stuck in the menu and can't do anything :"(

Developer (1 edit)

That's no good. I'll have to take a look at it today. Thanks for letting me know!

In the meantime, I can say with some certainty that it sounds like an issue with the save system, as it should say "Start" when you first play, not "Continue." If you go into the settings, does it offer you to delete your save? If it offers for you to delete, maybe try clicking that and running again. Might be a quick and dirty fix to whatever you're experiencing, in case I'm not able to figure what's actually going on with any sort of speediness.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Best case scenario, I'll figure what you've got going on pretty quick and upload a fixed version (I believe this is allowed by jam rules).

Submitted(+1)

Thank you, that worked!

Amazing game and exactly what I was hoping it would be from the cover art and music. No criticisms because this is a work of art :")

Developer(+1)

So glad you could get it working! I think it must have created a save on the menu, so clicking continue was just loading you back to the menu. I haven't been able to figure why it would do that yet, but hopefully I'll be able to get it fixed. How I'm doing the saves right now is pretty messy anyway.

Thanks so much for playing (even after some issues)! Can't believe it'd get described as a work of art, but hey, I'm not gonna argue, haha.

Submitted(+1)

I got executed by a microwave..... 10/10 :)

Developer

Just like in real life, haha. Thanks for taking the time to play!

Submitted(+1)

Bravo! Very very fun and clever and dangit I still can't get a couple of these but I am going to keep trying lol. You did a great job here and the story and art work quite well together. And the music was a great choice.

Developer(+1)

I wouldn't get too hung up on the achievements; some are quite difficult and there are plenty of other (better) games to be rating!

Glad you liked it. I'm always scared doing this goofy kinda art, so nice to hear good things about it. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Dude they played it on the post-jam roundup video gotta go check it out!!

Developer

Wowee! Wish I'd paid more attention, so I could've watched live. Thanks for letting me know! So cool! I'll probably go back and watch the whole thing when I've got the time.

Hey, congrats on 11th in story! (I woulda had you higher based on what I played, but 11th is pretty freaking great!)

Submitted(+1)

Funny and fun to play around with. Such a simple idea but the absurdity and the illustrations make it work. I only managed three achievements, but I think an expanded version of this with more to explore and more weird branches to go down could do quite well. I couldn't tell if or when the two dimensions were affecting each other, and focusing on that aspect (not necessarily making it more obvious!) feels like it has a lot of space to grow. Was this made in Twine, by any chance?

Developer(+1)

The more I worked on this, the more I worried that the fact that the dimensions do have ways of effecting each other got lost. In an expanded version (in the works now!), I definitely agree that should be a bigger focus. It was kinda sorta the original idea of the game after all, haha.

And yeah, this was made in Twine. It's my second time using it, and I freaking love it so much. Been working on a much larger game with Twine for a little while now as well.

Thanks for taking the time to play! Appreciate the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

I am continually amazed by the things people can do in Twine. Every time I try my hands at it, I end up getting lost in connections or frustrated with variables. I suppose this is as good a reason as any to try again. Looking forward to seeing more!

Developer(+1)

I think it's awesome, but it definitely gets tangled up pretty quick in my experience. Still trying to figure the best way to organize things. My first game I made with it I shoved pretty much all text into an object, had a total of like four passages that were actually where the game happened, and just switched out the text in those passages based on variables matching up with the object's keys . It was a mess, but it was honestly an easier way of getting into it for me because I basically made it work closer to what I was used to (Python and Pygame) and didn't have to wade through pools of passages, haha.

Submitted(+1)

Really funny story -- well done making the different paths and keeping some consistent art work through.

Developer

Glad you liked it! Thanks for taking the time to play and comment.

Submitted(+1)

There's a really nice surreal quality to this game which I enjoyed. In some sense, you make your own meaning out of what is going on, until the end, when there is a pleasant surprise. Great work and thanks for sharing!

Developer(+1)

You really just came and described my own game better than I could! I personally love for games I play to be surreal and open in the way that you're describing, so I try my best to make games like that too. Appreciate that you took the time to play and comment!

Submitted(+1)

Great funny game!

Developer

Funny is the highest compliment in my book. Thanks for taking the time to play!
