Thanks for checking out my game, I've rated yours.

The movement feels a little sluggish, however, I really like being able to climb up walls. Good stuff!

Developer

Thank you. I will work on it :-)

Ah classic dungeon crawler literally lol. Like the use of the light that followed around and i see you had to be careful where you jump otherwise you damage yourself so you had to climb walls a lot.  One issue i came across is if I press spacebar twice while climbing or spacebar and the direction of the wall i was on, it made the character do a middle thing and wouldn't grab the wall.  Just wanted to point out that issue.

Developer

Thank you. Yes, the only thing still sometimes buggy, is the colliders. If the collider does not leave the area that has already collided with to re-enter and trigger a new collision, the state will not change and neither the animation.

I really like the shadows and lighting that you've done as well as the design of the main character. I was not expecting to be able to scale the walls that way, so that was a nice surprise! Well done!

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

It would be impossible to climb with that armor. Other than that i likes the atmosphere!

Developer

Thank you. Yes, it would be impossible. I will add visuals for ladders and hangers, to at least explain how that could have been possible. Other than that, I do not mind being a bit "unrealistic" ;-)

Submitted(+1)

Love the lego character aesthetic and the use of lighting. The wall climbing mechanic was a pleasant surprise and made exploration a lot more interesting.

Developer

Thank you!

I found a third potion but no blade sadly...does the colour matter? I had green blue and purple I think...
So if there is a mechanic with the sword I never saw it.
And yes the fall dmg is quite mean I even got healed by one of the poitions but not enough to survive a second fall.
Very funny that the character is a LEGO knight ^^

Developer

Thank you. Yes, the colours matter, I have written in the description in detail :-) The falling damage used to be instant death. I will improve to be relative to the falling height.

Submitted(+1)

Oh I must have missed that - but in my defense in this Jam there is a lot of text in some games and it's just too much.

As a tip if you want people like me to enjoy your game fully : make a short TLDR with all the important points and then the rest what you like to say after...if you want to rate a lot of games you just don't use time reading walls...

Developer

Yes, you are right. Done.

Submitted(+1)

Good work on the animations. I found it a bit goofy that you're this knight in armor climbing around and I didn't really know what to do, but otherwise it was solid :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you. Yes, it is weird that an armoured knight can run around climbing and crawling on ceilings, but in general it is fun! So I left it. The goal is maybe a bit obscured, I will add visual and audio aids after this ends.

Submitted(+1)

I enjoyed it. Didn't get as lost as I usually do in these games. The fall damage is vicious, I didn't fall very far and 75% of my bar disappeared

Developer

Thank you. Yes... It is actually 70% (I had it instant death while still in development!). I will change that though. I will make the damage relative to the falling-height.

I like the aethetics and the click sound from the armor, though the goal of the game is kindof ambigous, but you have done a good job in your first jam, cheers!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. The thing with the goal I get a lot - I plan on extending with feedback and aids. I since then have extended the description and added a fast speed run video to showcase the full level :-)

Submitted(+1)

Really enjoyed this game! Beyond impressive that this was your first game jam! Loved the Lego character it added a really cool feel to the game. Very excited to see what you do with this game.

Developer

Thank you! I am excited to see what I will do as well :-P

Submitted(+1)

The animations are great! I would recommend speeding up the climbing, as some walls take upwards of 15 seconds to climb all the way up. Or scale down the maze a bit. Cool entry!

Developer

Thank you. Yes, I had comments on the speed, I will speed it up a little on an update after the jam rating ends.

I really liked the player movement in this game.  SFX were on point and had a nice story to it.  great submission!  I enjoyed the old school feel to it too

Developer(+1)

Thank you. I tried!

Submitted(+1)

The game is interesting. I loved it when I realized I could dangle-crawl on the ceiling. The game has some nice movement that fits it very well. Great Job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. Yeah moving on the ceiling is weird, but people seem to enjoy it :-)

gives me strong 1989 prince of persia vibes! the maze was brutal though. I wandered around for what felt like hours, then fell to my death (when I was trying the cool catch-the-wall-shortly-before-the-floor-quick-descent-technique). and how did you get a lego figurines inside your game?
unique entry though!

Developer

Prince of Persia? Wow, now that is a comparison I never expected to hear. Thank you! It was actually the first game I ever played, I believe. I admit that I did have it in mind, and Flashback of course, and thought that my character should be as cool as possible as it is the main thing the players see all the time. You think the maze is difficult?.. Hmm, food for thought. I might include aids in the future.

The lego? I built the character in Bricklink Studio (2.0), copied it around and changed the stance and after rendering the model into an image, I manually edited it to place each frame into the correct position. A tedious process, but I am trying to learn Blender to create a model instead (for my lego pirate game). I invested in it, to make it as cool as possible. Though for some animations cut frames to make it on time.

E.g. Attack animation. From this model:

The climbing was really neat! Great work on that. Some way to keep track of the remaining "correct" potions would be a great addition, it gets confusing with the healing ones.

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you. I am planning to add visual and audio feedback. You can see what you have collected in the pause menu if you hit the "goal hint" button. Hmm, many people miss that. It is too obfuscated then.

Submitted(+1)

Yea, I also think it could be a bit faster but overall well done.

Developer

Thank you. Faster huh? Hmm... Ok, I'll see what I can do, after the jam ends!

Submitted(+2)

Great work on the sound and animations. Wall climbing was cool, didn't know I could do that for the longest time. The game felt a little slow and I wished my character was faster. I found three potions and returned back to the beginning only to realize that I must have not collected the right colors or something so I quit. Great work on your first jam though definitely a great game for your first!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you. The dark pink potions were healing potions... You needed the other three to open the chamber for the sword (somewhere in the middle) then you you could get out! :-) I have updated the description. The updated version after the jam will contain visual and audio hints as well.

Submitted(+2)

I like the art side a lot.  Couldn't find what the goal was. And why was I able to walk on the ceiling (like upside-down) that was fun though. Other than that I liked the game. It was fun.

Developer

Thank you. I updated the description this morning (well about 12 hours ago) to give goal hints because, yes, for a rushed playing for 1K entries, no time to search around. :-)

Submitted(+2)

Great concept and art. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'll work on it to make it better.
