I see, the cover image had me thinking you'd be attacking ghosts, but you ran into some unexpected hurdles during development. But despite that, you pulled through and made a working, challenging game with some charming aesthetics! Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your amazing feedback!

Regarding the game type, we had to change it to a survival game on the last day due to resource management. We were expecting to build an RPG with 2 weapons, one that froze the ghosts and another that captured like ghost-busters style.

Thanks for playing!

Reminded me of the Super Mario World haunted house levels. Fun vibe. Kinda tough to avoid the ghosts but I did manage to beat it. Wish there was some audio. Nice job though!

Developer

Audio and music would add the chills and vibe that we needed! Absolutely fundamental to add on the next versions! Thanks for playing :)

I'm glad someone reminded the Super Mario World haunted house levels :D

Nice job. I really like how fast the movement is. And great job with the theme!

Developer(+1)

Perfect! Thank you! Some things need to be polished but I'm glad you enjoyed what we had to show :)

Submitted(+1)

Well I really like the game art used in the game they really pop and the logic used for ghosts (really nice pathfinding), the levels are well designed good work on that the controls are a little bit off it's taking time to get used but otherwise this is a good foundation to a full game good job guys I enjoyed the game.

Developer

Thank you ! I love the support you guys are giving us even though we had to pivot the game concept ! There are no words to describe the love and affection you have for you guys! Thanks a lot! <3

Submitted(+1)

You are welcome :D

Submitted(+1)

Good job for creating the world! The movement needs polish, and also the placement of enemies is often just frustrating. Overall, an ok work

Developer(+1)

You're right about the ghost placement! Since we had no time and only a small level we aimed for a survival type (harder than usual), so people would have to replay it until success, but maybe it was a failure on our side? :)

Thanks a lot for playing!

Submitted

nah not a failure! Just think about it a little more to make it more interesting! It's a detail, but solving it adds something to the game. Nice done!

Very well done! The dungeon is huge, good job in creating the level in the little time we had. :) Considering you created the assets yourselves is even more impressive.

Great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! You're most kind! :)

Submitted(+1)

Wow you move fast, is that intentional? And you created all the assets yourselves? Amazing!

Developer

It was intentional for the type of game that we wanted to develop (an RPG), but we ended up going for the survival type. Also, yes we made the assets :)

Thanks for playing!

You have done a great job.  Great base for a full game.  Congratulations!

Thank you for your feedback!

Loved the switching dimensions mechanic and amount of player speed. Thank you!

Developer

Glad you loved it :) Thanks for playing!

I found the key!

My first thought was: Wow these controlls are fast!

When I first encountered a ghost: Oh they have to be fast...

Nice game I personaly prefer games where I can fight back but for a game with hide and seek I liked it!

Developer

Hello! Thank you so much for playing! The idea of the game was to be an RPG. If you look into the assets we have on the itch.io page you can see that there's our hero with weapons. Two of them actually, one that freezes ghosts and another ghost-buster-like style. We do have code for that and it's working. But during the development, we started losing people and we were down to 2-3 active members (including me) so we had to manage resources and cut some features.

Submitted(+1)

y I understand. Jump over to my game and let me know what you think ;-)

Submitted(+1)

Congrats on the submission! Some of the artwork and sprites on your game page look fantastic, it's a shame they couldn't make it in! I'd be interested to check in again if you ever continue updating the game. I like the concept of shifting between the safe and nightmare dimensions and different parts of the map only existing in one of them. But after lots of exploring in the end I only really needed to use it once to find the key. I think the game has a lot of potential!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing. I honestly believe that this could be a game concept easy to commercialize. But unfortunately, we couldn't present more features since we lost more than half of our team members.
It means a lot that you liked this game! Thanks

Submitted(+1)

I've been runnin around trying to find some various sprites and something that are presented on the webpage. Turns out the game isn't even 60% of what decorated on the webpage.

I will enjoy platformer game more if it has proper collisions and proper movement.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your amazing feedback! This is the kind of feedback that we want and need to listen :)

Regarding the game type, we had to change it to a survival game on the last day due to resource management. We were expecting to build an RPG with 2 weapons, one that froze the ghosts and another that captured like ghost-busters style.

Let me be completely transparent with you. My idea of having the assets on the page is not to trick anyone into giving us a better rating. I just wanted to show the rest of the game jam participants this concept for a game.

And I can open myself and tell you the full idea that we envisioned. So, you were a hero that could change between Real World and Nightmare/Dreamworld. The switching spots would be a bedroom in a house that would have an NPC sleeping on the bed. Your mission was to enter the nightmare world and not only capture the NPC's nightmares but also rescue him from his nightmare.

Of course, you might say: "Well Rúben, everyone can have ideas, but it's up to us to implement them". And you're totally right, we had a good game concept that we couldn't finish, mostly because we went from 8 to 2-3 people actively working on their spare time because we were all on our daily jobs at the same time.

Submitted(+1)

Solid concept, but like what others have commented, the controls are a bit hard to handle.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for the kind words!

Yeah, you're right. Sorry the idea was to have something like Celeste, having the player sticking to walls while shooting the enemies, but we had to achieve both the code for the weapons and inventory system as well as the assets due to resource constraints.

Submitted(+1)

Let me tell you, I like going fast in games but this one is just a little too quick for me. It's easy to run into an off-screen ghost while moving away from another one. Aside from the speed the controls work well. There's one spot where the floor juts up at the intersection of two rectangles and stops forward movement, other than that the level seemed well put together to me.

I didn't use the dimension shift after initially entering the ghost world, since that version is interconnected and led to the end as I expected. An idea for switching back and forth that way usually has each zone bridging to the other so that you cross gaps on one side by being in the other, whereas here the non-ghost zone seems only to give the player breathing room since it doesn't contain enemies.

The art is simple but I like it! I see in the screenshots that there are a lot of unused assets and also mechanics. It's important to rein in the scope of a game when you're on a very limited timer so good job on scaling it back and getting something submitted! Keep in mind you can always add more to your game later, once this voting period ends. :)

Developer(+2)

Satinel you can't imagine how those kind words make me feel. Thank you so much for your feedback!

Everything you're saying is right. We weren't aware of that "bug" reaching the end without dimension shifting. Although I would like to explain to you our initial concept and why we have some unused assets.

The idea that we envisioned was a hero that could change between Real World and Nightmare/Dreamworld. The switching spots would be a bedroom in a house that would have an NPC sleeping on the bed. Your mission was to enter the nightmare world and not only capture the NPC's nightmares but also rescue him from his nightmare.

But thank you soo much for your feedback! This is what game jams are all about!

I'm going to rate your game as well :)

Submitted

You're very welcome of course, I'm happy to know my feedback was helpful! And I'm glad this was a good learning experience for you! :)

Submitted(+1)

Really great submission. As others have said before, could really use some sound effects and music to add to it but you already know that. The only other feedback would be that perhaps the controls felt a little too sensitive? But that is just a me thing and others can easily like it that way so don't take that as anything critical. Awesome job and really well done!

Developer

Yeah. I agree with you. The controls are sensitive because we aimed for an RPG style of game, but as the team size started decreasing overtime we shifted to a survival game and didn't touch the controllers, that is on our side. Thanks for your feedback!

Submitted(+1)

It happens :) Glad you submitted the project. Really well done and hope you continue onwards

Submitted(+1)

I love the concept a lot, the switching between two dimesions and one great thing stand out is the map btw two dimensions is connected, good level design. That's really a brilliant ideas, though the control can be smoother and add some sfx and music in, I like the mechanics a lot, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing :) We should definitely add some music and VFX on our next version

Submitted(+1)

The concept is solid! But it needs some work to get there. Music and sound would be a great start. Also, the acceleration/velocity is too much, especially when moving + jumping. I would love to see an improved version of this.

Developer(+1)

Thank you soo much for your feedback! Music and sound were part of the plan, but we left that behind when we started losing people in the project! We will have your ideas into consideration when updating the game :)

Submitted(+1)

Our games really are similar ^_^

You may have noticed but the first grey room to the left has no gray color in the alternate world, it still works tho.

The monochrome background aesthetics look nice

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Didn't notice until you spoke :) Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

There is a bug when you can get out of bounds changing dimension in a down room and go into free fall.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, we hadn't noticed that bug! We'll be fixing that after the jam ends! Thanks for playing

Submitted(+1)

Cute game :)
