How does your game match the theme?
The story is then to put as much space behind you from the store and to go from level to level until you reach a launch pad to go to actual outer space. Never made it but surely went to space (lvl 5). How the game turned out to be about dental hygiene, is a funny story. After much thought, I decided to go for a skull trying to eat as much as possible to fill the void of hunger (fill the empty space). While designing the teeth, it became a "ChatteringTeeth" thing. Stupid, I know, sorry!

Very unique setting and character, I love it! The puzzles were fairly creative too. The connection to the jam's theme might be a bit loose but overall it's a really solid game. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. Indeed it is very loose :-D

Developer(+1)

I am sorry I didn't manage to rate your game before the end... It was something I would now be able to do.

Submitted(+1)

That's quite alright! I rated your game very close to the end of the rating period so I figured most people wouldn't be able to rate mine back. I just had a ton of fun playing everyone's games and I wanted to make sure I rated any I played.

I love the chattering teeth character in this. It took me a while to work things out (and many failed attempts at jumping over the first gap; it was a bit hard to tell where the edge was, and there doesn't seem to be any coyote time), but I got to the "end". Nice graphics and audio, and I appreciate the full options menu. Good work!

Developer

Thank you. This issue with the limits, obstacles and such has already been redesigned for the next version.

What a tragic ending.

The art is very cute! The mechanics are competently implemented. The controls were a tad strange, but that's about it.

Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you. I tried compensating with more control schemes :-D

Developer(+1)

Oh! Sorry, I've just noticed the first sentence :-D

Yes, I had to end this somehow for the jam, and make it somehow relevant to the secondary theme! I had in mind getting it in a rocket and flying away. Maybe landing in the moon for some extra levels or something.

The graphics take a while to get used to, and I personally thought the button mapping was strange. But the game itself is really cute and fun to play! :) Also, pressing SELECT twice on the title screen causes a soft-lock - the game goes blank and no longer responds to any button presses.

Developer

Thank you. I'll check the bug.

Developer

Found the bug, silly me. It is fixed for the next version!

Really fun to play! I've also been positively surprised with the options that let you select your desired palette and sound settings, it's really nice touch! :)

Developer

Thank you. I tried "emulating" the hardware settings because of lack of time to put a Gameboy frame around and tweak stuff with the mouse...

a very charming game, and the different palette options at the  start was a nice touch

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you for playing. This is actually the pause menu at the moment, accessed anytime with [select]. It pops up at loading automatically only for the first time.

Submitted(+1)

so good

Developer

Well, thanks for playing.

Submitted(+1)

I like that you add a setting menu that allowed you to change sound sfx and music. Also having the option to change color palette too. The graphic are nice too the only mechanic I didn't understand was the bite. But everything else was cool good job.

Developer

Thank you for playing. The bite is an unfinished feature. In the future you will be able to bite specific tiles to make space to fit  through :-)

Unfortunately, the game won't begin for me. Once I get past the palette selection, the music continues for a while, but the screen is black... and remains black. Sigh...

Developer

Strange... what about the windows downloadable version?

Submitted(+1)

OK, I finally got it to run! :)

Wacky and very original premise. The main character manages to be simultaneously adorable and very creepy. Very nice music.

Some of the visual design could have been a bit clearer. It was not always obvious which colors represented obstacles. Also, the teeth always appear to face the player when standing still, but in reality, the character is always facing either right or left, which matters because of aiming the fireballs... so I would have preferred if we could always see which direction the character is facing.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying again! The graphics have been improved in a newer version :-) I had similar comments. Regarding the idle animation, yes you are right. I could do it facing left or right. Or somewhat tilted to the right or left. I like it looking at me, it adds to the creepiness and that it is waiting for something (input). If I tilt it then maybe both of these will be ok.

Submitted

Yes, it does add to the creepiness. So this becomes a difficult design choice. :)

Developer(+1)

Ok, slightly redesigned that, the eyes look left or right when jumping while facing the player.

I have yet to test it! :-D

Submitted(+1)

I like the different visual options, though I should comment level 1's use of top-down type tiling in a side-scroller is disorienting in nature. Playing as chattering teeth is the coolest part of this entry. I suggest if you work on this post-jam to center the game around the bite mechanic for an interesting twist on the traditional platformer.

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you. Yes, biting. It is there to break paths and make "space" to crawl in. I did not have enough time to complete this feature :-)

If you please, could you elaborate on the comment "level 1's use of top-down type tiling in a side-scroller"? You mean the way the street is built? I tried to give it some perspective, if that is what you're referring to...

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the music.

I must say that the scenery is quite confusing to visualize. It may have hindered my experience with the game.

I enjoyed the graphics a lot.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for playing. I think I must improve these tiles of level 1 after the rating period ends :-)

Submitted(+1)

Rough around the edges, but chock full of charm. I really enjoyed my time spent will my toothy buddy.

Developer

Thank you for playing. :-)

Good effort! The menus and character animation are nice, but I had trouble getting over the first pit

Developer

Thank you for playing. It is the only place that needs some effort , toy need to push the crate half way out and jump from it. I had old platformers challenges in mind :-)

The button mappings felt a bit awkward at first, and the readability of the background was a bit messy (I thought I was trapped between 2 walls for a minute), it's hard to understand what's part of the background in some places.

Other than that, very nice entry. And the options are always a welcome feature. Good stuff!

Developer

Thank you for playing. I thought that the lightest colour should be "window" there ;-) the second level is much clearer, with secret walls though!
