For the most part, the controls felt tight, but a couple times I didn't jump when pushing the jump button. The game art is really good. The game definitely has that Gameboy feel. I wish more of the enemies fought back.
"Ninjo" foi foda mano. hahahah
No geral, bom e divertido, musica legal, graficos bons. Senti falta de mais feedback nos ataques, um som, uma pausa, um knockback, essas coisas.
Bom trabalho! :)
Great animations and very smooth and reactive controls. The level design can be punishing, but that's not a bad thing with this genre and nostalgia group! Music works well, but I'd love to have some impactful sound effects for the attacks to finish it out. Great job and I'd love to see more!
I really liked the game; it feels like a mix of Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania. The art is beautiful, and it’s very enjoyable to play. Congratulations!
With some polishing this could be really fun. I think the way the jump input buffering works is a bit crazy though XD
I'm glad you found our game fun. I agree that there's still room for improvement, especially in the jumping system.
thanks for playing
The character feels very snappy and responsive. That makes most jumps a leap of faith, sometimes falling into spikes. The presentation feels very authentic, congrats!
Thanks! Quick controls, but risky jumps. Great that it reminded you of Game Boy feeling!
Great soundtrack and artwork! The invisible spikes are a bit of a bummer… it reminded me of Naruto for GBA back in the days, really cool :)
Thanks! I recognize that this can be frustrating, but it is part of gameboy soul
First this a very pleasant platformer and I love the ninja paranormal spin on it. The level design really stands out as it is well-paced, challenging, and fun. However, there is a game breaking bug once your life zero’s out that forces player to menu splash screen. Personally, I would like more variable speed and jump, or attack momentum in the controls. Currently, the controls feel too snappy but fit well for a speed platformer. The art is great and feel very gameboy but some of the design lacks contrast(I am referring to the dark mountain and mc outline) it makes it a bit difficult to see what I am looking at and little off putting to play. Adding an outline around player or changing the background color in that area could help show the environment better. Good catchy soundtrack! I understand that time limits ideas. Regardless, great job and keep it up!
Hey, thanks a ton for the detailed feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed the game, especially the level design.
The visual contrast, specifically with the darker background, is intentional for a stealth mechanic. The ninjo will be able to enter the shadows to avoid some enemies. However, we couldn't implement this feature yet due to time constraints during the game jam—we had to cut down the scope.
thanks for playing!
I liked the artwork and the song is a bop too! But it's a bit frustrating having spikes right out of view, specially when you have to fall down to continue the level. Having the spikes just deal damage instead of insta killing could help with that. Also the character is not snapping to the slanted tiles which makes the movement less responsive.
Overall this is a very solid entry, well done!
Thanks for the feedback! I recognize that this can be frustrating, but it's part of the Game Boy spirit we tried to emulate. Perhaps making the spikes less punishing could work as well.
thanks for playing
Ouch, that font anti-aliasing really hurts the aesthetic. Turn off all kinds of filtering and AA in Project Settings>Rendering subsection in Godot.
This really has 5/5 the soul of an old gameboy game. Right down to the instant deaths from spikes below your screen that you couldn't have foreseen :D
Also that main menu music rocks. Set it on loop, though, it only plays once.
Thanks! The font issue was caused by the incorrect size to fit in the conteiner — all AA is off already. Sorry about that. I forgot to set the music to loop 'cause I planned to change the pitch and apply crossfades in some areas, but I missed it due to jam time. Glad you liked the gameboy feelings!
thanks for playing
Really enjoyed playing. Artwork is good. And the movement is great I like how you can bhop around and just avoid most of the enemies. It does crash once you run out of lives but that didn't really bother me. I think it would make a nice speed running game :)
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed the game and the artwork. We really like the speedrunning idea, maybe in the future!
thanks for playing
Amazing art!
