LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS GAME. Will be returning to play again & again. I'm not sure there's much more I can add for you to polish that hasn't already been mentioned so will leave it at that :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Glad you loved it :)

This is the most fun I've had playing the jam games so far! Gameplay is the strongest point, and it seems like a lot of work was put into having lots of weapons, a few different enemies, and a great combat/store loop the ensure the player has a lot of fun. Toilet roll being a currency was a funny reminder of the early days of lockdown. Nice touch.

My suggestions for improvements start with the audio. Since you are using asset packs, there isn't really a good reason not to include sounds for every interaction and/or event. The menu and UI felt a bit dead since there were sounds missing there, and exploding barrels were silent. It also took me far too long to realise that some enemies were holding shields. If there were different sound effects for enemies being hit successfully and damaged (a grunt, for example), and an enemy's shield being hit (a smug laugh at your failure to hurt them) then this feedback would clue the player into the mechanics much faster (ie stupid old me, struggling to work out why I killed the first enemy with no problem, but the others seemed invincible).

One improvement you could make to the visuals is to have the little rolling enemies contrast with the colour of the floor for better readability. They were quite difficult to spot quickly, and this game is all about quick reactions!

Overall, a really solid submission! Thanks for sharing.

By the way that you have credited the composer, it looks like you just used someone's existing music? If that's not the case, and the composer made the music for the jam specifically, then let me know and I'll amend my audio rating, because the music was great and really suited the game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for your review Samuel! :) We appreciate all of your feedbacks, sincerely!  You are totally right about everything you've listed,  we definitely need to add sounds for more interactions to give stronger feedbacks and we should make the enemies more readable. We'll for sure work on those things in the  near future when the jam will be over ^^

About the OST, we gave credit to the composer because we used one of the musics he posted on youtube (to be precise: Fastest Gun in the 8-bit West.). He stated that his works were free to use as long as people gave credit to him. The music is indeed perfect for the game ahah

Submitted(+1)

Cool, I'd probably have listed the music in the asset packs part of the submission page, for clarity. Great choice on the track, it really works!

Submitted(+1)

In fact I think I see it now!

Developer(+1)

But i remember it being there from the very beginning     You sure it wasn't there from the start?  (i didn't change the submission)

Submitted(+1)

I quite possibly just missed it

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

ahah no worries ^^ and thanks again !

Everything about this game is great. I love the art style and the sound, the gameplay is very fun and challenging too.  Great job, guys! :D

Developer

Thanks for your feedback mate! :D

Submitted(+4)

Love the style and the tough(but fun) gameplay.

Developer

Glad you liked our game :) Thanks, we appreciate it ^^

I really liked the game, it looked and sounded really nice, very Enter the Gungeon. The movement felt good for the most part, the hitboxes of the walls seemed slightly off? Barrells would go up into them, and then look kind of weird :/ I think it might be worth addressing the health of the enemies, in the beginning area the revolver and the shotgun just don't do enough damage to clear the rooms in anything less than 5 minutes, unless I'm missing a serious DPS boost. Should be an easy enough tweak though :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and reviewing our game :)  We'll try to fix the barrells issue and yeah,  we need to balance the game for sure ahah We're working on it and hope to give a better experience by the end of the week ^^

Cute game, very polished and a great little experience. I found it quite difficult, but I almost definitely wasn't using the dash enough. Loved the voices and the art work, and all the juicy animations, explosions and variety. Plus, the shop keeper was a cool dude. Great work guys!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much for your  feedback! We are so happy you liked  WOLO ^^ We'll try to work on the difficulty (along with other stuff that needs a fix) during this week of polish! :)

Submitted(+4)

The game was so polished it feels amazing to play. The concept of the game was very smart too. The only thing I think you should add is a simple story trying to explain the objective. Great job!

Developer(+1)

We'll work on it! Thanks for playing and for the feedback :)

Nice work! Your team did a great job in creating fun gameplay and characters. The merchants voice was great.

My favourite weapon was the malware gun. So fun to use. The boss was well designed and just the right amount of difficulty for the first boss.

I don't if this was intentional or not, but when I bought the revolver, this happened. If it wasn't intentional, it should be, it was hilarious.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback! :D Glad you enjoyed our game!
And yes, you found the golden gun which is a very rare drop that can appear when you buy the base gun xD

Great game,  well done and congratulations to your team.

everything was awesome, kinda felt bad after I defeated the boss and saw the poor guy crying lol.

Developer(+1)

Ahah don't take pity on him! He's evil :P

Thanks for playing our game, glad you liked it :)

It’s really hard to give feedback in a game that I loved absolutely everything! Congratz on this great game. This game can easily become a full release with more content and some polishing!

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind words!

I'm going to be super nitpicky because I loved it and it's my favorite game after 40 or so games, so here are my little nitipcks!

Armadillo spawning seemed unfair. Not sure if buggy, or if they are meant to spawn out of thin air. Also sometimes they would never move.

The guys with shields kind of just slow the game down, not a fan of them.

The barrels can be pushed into the top wall a tiny bit.

That's it, that's my three nit picks. You did so fantastic!

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback! We are so happy you like our game :) We are for sure going to polish things up and fix the things you've listed. You are completely true, armadillos and shield guys need some tuning ahah

Amazing game, little thing that bothered me is that i need to think to much :smh:

Developer

We'll see about that, thanks for the feedback anyway!

WOLO! I really enjoyed this game. The use of the theme at first felt like a cop out, but actually I found it to be genuinly interesting once the impact of the choices became apparent. The Art style was great, the sound was funny without being annoying. Over all great work.

Developer

Thanks, happy to hear you enjoyed it!

I love top down shooters and this was no exception :D The gameplay is top notch reminds me of nuclear throne(which i love). I loved the shopkeeper lizard he is soo cool (I love when he says nothing is free :D) The sprite work and vfx are also amazing ! (Espacily the weapons sprites :O)

The game definetly needs to balance the weapons :/ For example the zooka's fire speed is really low and the A.M.I.R is too powerfull for its price. Also there where times when i couldn't see the enemies becouse some of them blend with the background very well.

Other than these i think you guys did an amazing job with the game. Really fun experience i would like to play again after the polishing great work :D

Developer

Thanks a lot buddy for your feedback! :D

Developer

Nice to know you had fun!

Great game, can think you can make the game that is this polish in a week. Good art and sound, even the gameplay loop It is fun and interesting to find out all the weapons use.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Like to hear you liked it :)

Great job on the game! It has a rather arcadey style, it's art was good and it's variety of weapons warranted a second or third playthrough to try them all, I quite like the quirkiness of the weapons though personally some of them felt less useful than others, even if their damage was quite good.

It was a strange feeling when you never felt like you needed to save money or anything and some cheap weapons were some of the best and so on. Like, the AMIR, Malware gun and flamethrower were my favourites, maybe their rate of fire? I did find the constant screen shake a little annoying when using them though. The Flamethrower's burn effect is a nice touch, though unfortuantely most of the time we're holding down the trigger and burning them with a barrage rather than setting them on fire and walking off.

The Zooka's slow rate of fire, inaccuracy and low area was a bit difficult to use effectively, especially when so many of the armadillos or rolly pollys show up.

It certainly had a Enter the Gungeon sort of style as well. The sprite work was really nice and the loading screen transition was a good polish. During the gameplay I was confused now and then why I would suddenly have that 70 paper for the expensive guns.

Great work on the game! There were no real problems with the gameplay or artstyle, it was very playable and good as a game. I love the boss' defeated sprite!

Developer

Thank you very much for your awesome feedback! In this week of polish, we'll work on all of this for sure :)

Thats a great game, great idead and use of theme. I enjoyed playing it!

Developer

Thank you so much :D! Glad you liked the game ^^

Awesome graphics and audio design, with some really fun weapons to boot. Nuking the boss was a little anticlimactic, but funny. I could see this being a full game for sure!

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you very much for the feedback! We'll see how everything plays out and try to improve it this week  :)
