Loved how smooth the movement animations were. Lovely atmosphere, and overall a great job! Also, 'Wick' is a great name for the game, and makes it all the more charming!

Thanks so much!

The atmosphere is great and the music is very soothing. Reminds me of Hollow Knight. Game is simple and the lantern link mechanic can probably be explored further with some sort of timing mechanic or obstacles that extinguish the light or interrupt the connection. Overall great job! (It seems you are well aware of the spike issue so I won't mention it <3)

Developer

lol yes I am aware of the spikes now XD

 Thanks for playing!

I didn't know Godot can give you that level of lighting and shadow precision. Will definitely try Godot in the future. Quite a nice and original idea. The controls feel smooth and easy to use. The art is simple and clean. Overall good job!

Developer

thanks! Yeah I love Godot it’s a very user-friendly yet powerful engine.

i love the idea, great art , great audio, i like it !! Great job

Developer

thanks you :)

Good atmosphere. I think the spike's hitbox can be more forgiving.

Developer

thanks! Yeah a lot of people have mentioned the spike hit box, that’ll be the #1 thing I fix after the jam!

Absolutely love the visuals! For how simply everything is constructed, the little flame-creature has an amazing amount of character. It feels great to just zoom around.

Obviously there's room for a bit more depth in the gameplay, and I wasn't clear why you actually need to join the two lanterns in the first place. (It seems like you're lighting the first one with the creature's own flame, so why not the second, too?) But clearly that's not a major issue.

Overall, I really like this. Thanks for letting me play it!

Developer

thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment! Unfortunately I didn’t have much time to make this game because irl things. I would love to add more levels and build a story, but I just didn’t have time. Thanks for playing!

This game is so atmospheric, I love it! I feel like I could play this for a while if there was a bit more to the gameplay.

Speaking of gameplay, while I don't mind the amount of spikes, I feel as though their hitboxes are a little unfair. I'd have their hitbox lie a bit further in from the edges, just so that a player isn't punished for lightly grazing them. One pixel crossing into the spikes shouldn't be a loss!

Other than that though, really nice entry!

Developer

thank you! I will definitely be fixing those spikes after the jam!

this is so stunning game! great experience - the atmosphere, music, art! I feel like i could walk forever in these labyrinths with this little ghost and don't get bored:)

i really loved the game, idea is pretty amazing and cool

I really liked this one, especially the way the light from the little wisp character interacts with the world. Well done!

Developer

thank you!

Creative use for the trail renderer!

The game feels good to play, even though I think you could easy a bit on the spikes' colliders since sometimes it's really tight.

I liked the music, but there was a glitchy sound and I stopped and checked my headphones for a good minute or two before I realized.

Well done~!

Developer

yeah I was happy with the tail as well :)

The music was a little glitchy yes, especially since it did t seem to loop XD

Thank you!

It's so hard! Really nice atmosphere. Thumbs up

Love the character!!! So cute, and the trail and movement are so nice. Also great job with the tutorial, the light mechanic worked out pretty well for that too :) It was very sad when I hit the spikes... because of the mood of the game could be interesting to try making the sound when you hit the spikes a 'puff' like smoke instead of the shatter, to make it feel less heartbreaking (like the character is a ghost so it just puffed but will come back).

Really liked it, great work.

Developer

Thank you so much! I did think about making the death a softer sound, but I decided to go with a harsher sound to make it more sudden and jarring, contrasting the peaceful music with exploding the innocent-looking character. But it was definitely a toss-up, and I think I should've gone with a softer sound. It would just fit the game better. Thanks again for playing!

Submitted

I think both are valid options really! What you have definitely worked well to communicate what was happening. It's just that the character is too cute and easy to get attached to ahah

AWWWWWW!!!!  This critter is so adorable!!!  I actually had to stop playing so I would stop impaling the poor little guy on the edges of spikes, but I love the aesthetic AND the idea and the music was lovely.  It did stop looping during level 3 though.  (Maybe I died too many times... XD )

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! Yeah, I noticed that too, oh well. We'll pretend that I did it on purpose to help people concentrate after dying a lot lol XD

The spike hitbox is a problem, yes, I wish I could fix it :(

Submitted

Aw, nah, I still had fun, I NEARLY had that level.  Just couldn't take the poor little lightwisp (or photowog?) suffering like that :D  I may come back again later.  Thanks for the great experience ^_^

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! (Oohhh I like lightwisp as a name, nice)

Loved the lighting and how smooth the movements are!

Developer

thank you!

This is fun and the lighting is really cool.  Nice job!

Thank you! I absolutely loved your game by the way. You should really make it a mobile game, it has so much potential! It has all the good characteristics you need, good concept, one-tap gameplay, fun physics, mesmerizing, satisfying, and just all-around fun. A little more polish, and you'll be golden!

Submitted

Awesome thank you for sharing your thoughts -- I really appreciate it, and it is very motivating!

Submitted

Very smooth and polished! Loved the character

Developer

Thank you very much! If you die a lot on a level his eyes start shaking, but I thought that was funny (like he was scared of the spikes now or something), so I left it in XD

Submitted

That's the art of making a game in a jam. Simple game concept, beautiful and well executed, rounded and smooth. Thanks for sharing!

Developer

Wow thank you, that means a lot!

Submitted

Feels very smooth, the look and sound design are all nice! (I almost wish the lanterns weren't collide-able objects because the player character is so smooth it's fun just gliding around. The spike hitbox is a little big but not too challenging overall, just fun!

Developer

Thank you so much! I agree, the spikes are a little big XD

Submitted

This game is very simple - Simple, but beautiful graphics, Simple, but good music and Simple, but enjoyable gameplay. I got a bit frustrated with the size of the spikes hitbox. But overall this is a great example of a good game jam submission!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to make this, about 6 hours, because of irl things, hence the simple graphics. I did fix the hitboxes, but then Godot crashed and I lost the change and didn't realize until I submitted lol. Thank you so much!

(PS, I also played your game! Great Job!)
