The game started of really nicely but a bug left me with a black screen very early on :/
That's really sad because everything other than that started really well.
The physics of the characters feel nice, the gameplay mechanics were pretty clever and well put together. The graphics are good too, the character sprite was pretty nice and the background to, i'm not a fan of the all black shadow effect but I know how hard it is to do a good lightning system so it would be very difficult in 48hrs.
Really solid game other than the bug making the game unplayable after collecting the second collectible
Thank you for the detailed comment!
Yea, we already fixed it a minute after the submission time was due, but it is what it is.
We will try to improve the lighting system for sure, maybe add some objects who shed dim light other than the orb as some people have mentioned here.
Thanks again!
Hey, really enjoyed the dual mechanic in this. It took me a while to work out how to open the doors with the eyes and light orb vision etc. but I figured it out in the end. Good luck in the ratings!
awesome!!
love the idea and mechanics explored here, the art is great, i like the pokemon-like protagonist, the orb is a clever mechanic and alter the gameplay in meaningful ways! I hope you rank well in the jam, this is one of my favs
Thank you for the kind words!! Glad you enjoyed it.
I did take Ponyta as a reference :D
my bet for your inspiration was on entei hehe
awesome

I like the idea! However got disorientated many times. That's part of the gameplay i guess. But some more visual cues could help.
However great atmosphere, art and a very interessting game idea. Good job!
Yea I think we need to ramp up the difficulty a bit better.. We'll work on that.
Thank you!
An excellent game, I especially like how you can double jump when you hold the orb in place, not many issues other than I completed few levels and then i got stuck in a black screen, i don't know why

Thank you kindly!
Yea.. it's a bug we already fixed but weren't quick enough to upload..
Beautiful art & music! The orb mechanic is awesome, too, a very nice play on the theme. Found the jumps a little harsh, sometimes had to try like a dozen times until I could reach some platform. Anyways, good job!
Thank you! We will look into it for the next version
Wow interesting! Feels very smooth and if the music was done during the jam you are legends! Good game just felt like the background was a bit too dark, other than that great work!
Thank you kindly!
So glad to hear you enjoyed the music!
I fkn love the light source/double Jump mechanic! This trade off between vision and agility is awesome! I'd love to see a little more "story" behind the light source, player character and the world. Very creative approach on the theme, too! Nice Job!
Thank you kindly!
One member of the group is already working on a story in his spare time, maybe we'll expand upon it in the future!
I really like how you used light in this! after the fifth room, the camera just panned to a purple-y screen, but before that I had a great time jumping around! I really like the originality of having a player character joined to light instead of being joined to something physically. Great job!
Thank you for the kind words! Really appreciate it!
Sadly there is a bug in the middle of the game, but we already fixed it and will upload the fixed version after the jam :D
One of my favs! The use of the light was surprising! I loved that.
There is at least one section where I have to jump and the camera starts to move in the middle of my jumps.. I believe I would've liked more if every screen where I have to do some platforming would have the camera fixed and only add camera transitions on the "extremes" where there is nothing challenging to do.
Also I'm pretty sure something weird happened with the camera near the end (or at least, i'm assuming it was near the end haha). Everything went black, but I could still see some weird shapes like if the light was trying to renderer but the z position of the camera was messed up? I don't know, but I had to stop playing there.
Anyway, loved it! Great work!
Thank you very much!! Glad you liked it!
I agree about the camera, our original intention was to make it fixed, at least at the first platforming segment, but we had a calculation error when making the bounds and it was too late to change when we found it out.. but definitely a right point.
And yes, we were told by a couple of other commenters - there is a bug with the camera about half way through the game. We already fixed it but we were a minute late on uploading it.. (We uploaded this version 36 s before due time, while the right version was building...)
Thank you again for the detailed comment!
Fantastic visuals combined with great sound design makes this a lovely experience. It's a fantastic take on the jam's theme and handles really well!
The one issue I bumped into was losing direction at times. There were a few points where I was not sure what exactly I should be doing and assumed I was just stuck before double jumping blind and working it out. Perhaps adding some form of very light illuminated moss or scratches on the back wall showing possible places to look would be great for guiding attention without taking away from the atmosphere, difficulty, or exploration :)
I really loved this one mechanically and could see it fleshed out into a full experience, fantastic job!
EDIT: By the way, the 37s before deadline must have been crazy stressful, good job sticking it out and making it in!
Thank you for the detailed critique, I really appreciate it!
I agree with you, tho we wanted the feeling of walking in the darkness and expolring, it can be confusing.
We'll definitely try and make it better, if not with lights and visual cues - with better level design and audio cues.
It was indeed stressful, we were building a better version of the game, but we didn't succeed in time so we upoaded the backup we made.
Thank you again!
A very nice concept and a good presentation. Unfortunately, I struggled a little bit with the contols, but that might be because I completely suck at platformers.
Thank you!
Would you prefer, instead of press and hold to hold the orb - to toggle it on or off?
I think that would help!
Very, very cool system. Unfortunately I wasn't able to progress past the door after the two spike pits, but the concept of the point-of-sight being separate from the player is just fantastic and the little platforming section at the beginning totally sold me on the idea.
Thank you!
Yes we are aware of that bug, unfortunately we can only fix it after the jam.. Shame that a big chunk of the game is unplayable.
I found some kind of bug that prevented me from progressing...
When I beat the room where you needed to get the light up high enough to activate both sensors, I was unable to go to the next room. When I ran offscreen, my character just kept going and I could see the light getting farther. It also looked like it was trying to load the next room, as it would flicker into visibility for a frame at a time before I was brought back into this room, and sometimes it lagged for a few frames like it was loading something.
That said, everything I did get to play through was phenomenal. I absolutely loved this game. The visuals, the sound, the mechanics... Everything was wonderful.
The only non bug-related critique that I could give you would be to increase the jump height a bit. It'd make you feel more powerful. You'd also probably have to change the levels a bit to compensate, but the more powerful feeling would be worth it, in my opinion.
*edit: I tried to include a screenshot of the location where the bug happened, but Itch wouldn't let me include it for some reason
Thank you so much for the detailed comment! I really appreciate it.
That bug is a downer, it means you just played the first part.. BUT we will fix it after the jam ends.
We'll also try tweeking the jumping force - we might need to change the rooms' layout for it to work with the modified jump but we'll definitely look into it
Thank you again!
Just want to say your game looks awesome! Unfortunately I cannot play it as I am on a macbook, but if anything I would love to rate your game purely on the visuals. Just beautiful design! :)
Thank you!
Actually you can play on mac, we just rushed through the uploading stage and made a mistake :d
Nice game !
Thanks! We appreciate the feedback!
Looks interesting and plays nice except i dont think i understood mechanics right
Thanks for your comment!
You can leave the orb behind to cast light on the eyes, they are the triggers to opening door. Hold 'Z' to keep the orb in place.
But if u lose the orb- you give up your sight.
That means that sometimes you advance blindly after you see whats ahead.
