Very nice visuals. It's a really distinct game from everything else I've seen this jam.

The enemies seemed to spawn way faster than I could feasibly destroy them so I ended up ignoring them (though it's not like I could get a good score that way :p )

Developer

I've been messing with balancing and some polishing and think I've gotten things a little more balanced, my initial intention had the difficulty build way too fast and that only make certain issues way more noticeable :s

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!

Great idea for a game! I enjoyed playing it very much. I agree that enemies were sometimes difficult to spot, but I really liked the fps - pixel art style.

Nice game!

Developer

Yeah, I'm working on some ideas that will hopefully make the enemies far more noticeable including a slightly expanded palette and giving them a slow pulsing glow, hopefully that should help seeing them on screen :)

Thank you for the feedback!

That sounds good. I am excited to play the new version ^-^

Really loved the art style, it sort of has that surreal pixel feel to it! Like many others have said, it was a bit hard to tell where enemies were coming from. But other than that, this is pretty solid. Nice job!

Developer

Yeah, I have a lot planed for balancing and expanding post-jam hahah Hopefully I can get this to shape up into something nice :)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

ngl i suck at this game very hard but i definitely enjoy looking at it (while sucking), i hope this gets expanded after the jam!

Developer(+1)

It's just a bit unfair right now, nothing you ( or anyone ) should feel bad about, I hope to get things to curve nicer so everyone can have fun trying to claim a high score and feel enveloped in the world :)

Thanks for playing, I'll definitely be continuing post-jam!

Unique minimal visual style, and an interesting risk/reward mechanic around using the scrap to either attack enemies or score points. Difficulty curve is a bit high, but could be adjusted by iterating on the enemy spawn rate/speed and possibly adding indicators on the screen edges when enemies are approaching. A 2D version might also increase this concept's accessibility since a player would be able to see more of the play field. Lots of potential, though. Good work :)

Developer

I could see a 2D spin-off being interesting, but I'm keeping focused on 3D for now hahah

That said, I have a lot lined up to try to address the difficulty and unfairness of the current game's gameplay, so hopefully post-jam I'll be able to do some testing and get something both difficulty but fair :)

Thank you for the feedback, it goes a long way!

Submitted(+1)

I didn't understand where the enemies were coming from, and kept dying very quickly. Looked very pretty though.

Developer

Yeah, balance is the next big focus, I have lots of ideas I'll be testing on people with various degrees of skill to see what works out best :)

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I wish could survive longer but my skills won't allow that :'(

But the few seconds I live are pleasant ones so I still like this game despite being terrible at it xD

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Don't blame yourself, it's pretty unbalanced unless you're bunny hopping around, and the game doesn't really explain that or teach how :s I'll be working on a bunch of things post-jam to help balance it out and hopefully make it more fun and approachable!

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you could still enjoy the game :)

Submitted(+1)

I really like the style, but I found it really difficult. The gathering/smelting mechanic is well executed. Nice job!

Developer

Yeah, still a fair bit of tweaking and work to go to get things nicely balanced hahah

Thanks for the feedback :)

It feels very good to play! Awesome art style, in this short time!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed the game :)

Thanks for playing!

Wow this is game has a really cool art style! I had the same issue with difficulty that it appears other people have had but the mechanic of choosing whether to fire ammo to stop enemies or score is very interesting. I'd be interested to see where this project goes after the jam with maybe some different enemies and obstacles

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I agree, I'll be working on a bunch more post-jam to smooth out the difficulty, clean things up, and flesh out the game with more interesting and (hopefully fair) challenging content  :)

Thanks a bunch for the feedback, and thanks for playing!

Wow, it looks soooo good. It creates really nice atmosphere.

But unfortunately it was too hard for me. Maybe made the enemies little bit slower. But when it is too hard for me, it could be easy for the others. But maybe at the star make the game very easy and escalate the difficulty.

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked the visuals!

I totally agree, while I do really want this game to be hard, right now it's just unfair and doesn't really lead in in a friendly way :s I'll definitely be working on that in the first pass post-jam :)

Thanks for the feedback!

I like the idea of this, but I feel like the enemy spawning needs some tweaking. It feels like the spheres are spawning behind me and then I get rammed by something I can't see. expanding the view to see a bit behind my character or adding some kind of distanced audio cue that lets me know when a sphere is going to pop out of the ground would be super helpful and make it feel a bit more fair when I die lol

Developer(+1)

No doubt! That's the main thing I'm going to be working on first, the lack of sound or any form of indicator for enemies behind you is currently really frustrating and leads to a lot of unfair deaths and that's not really what I want. I'm going to be spending a lot of time on this aspect to get things into a fair brutal difficulty range. It's never fun when a hard game feels hard just because you can't see the future hahah

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing :)

Nice idea, and 3D games are very rare here, so well done ! The art style gave me some PS1 vibes ^^ !

Good job =) !

Developer

Thanks for the kind words!

Yeah, PS1 horror games were definitely a big inspiration for me here hahah

Really cool art style! Love how when the scrap is compressed together you can see little individual bolts and cogs, and how the Warden comments on your playing. Really challenging for me, but I just need to git gud, haha! Loved it, great work!

Developer(+1)

Hahah Thanks for the kind words and thanks a bunch for playing!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)

Reminded me of Devil Daggers! Great job! Love the pixelated artstyle and the concept!

Developer

That was one of the big inspirations for the enemy design when I realized my initial AI wasn't very fun hahah

Thanks a bunch for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Submitted(+1)

I really like the look of your game !

Developer(+1)

I'm happy to hear that!

Thank you for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Great concept. I really like the pixel art shader that you've added. Compressing scraps puts you at risk of an attack, which is a pretty natural yet cool mechanic.

I think the problem with a first person action game is that sound effect is very important in letting the player know what's happening in the surroundings. Right now, it's difficult to know if an enemy has spawned. Still, it's understandable that there is not enough time for it.

Great job on the game!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I ended up wasting a chunk of time on trying to model and texture the entire environment before realizing that was not going to work out in time and instead implementing the render feature as you see it now. That cut off my time for sound which, as you pointed out, left some big issues in keeping track of the world and enemies in it. That also included time to have a friend test the game where I could have noticed some other issues with the difficulty :s Such is the life of a jam though hahah

I'll definitely be working on polishing it all up post-jam!

Thanks a ton for taking the time to play and give feedback on my game, I absolutely loved yours!

Submitted(+1)

It's really fun once you get a feel for it. Of course as you already know audio/music would be amazing. I think what would help a lot is less boulders and more of some other kind of enemy type. For me I felt the optimal strategy was to build up speed strafe jumping, and If I did this correctly the boulders could be completely ignored. However, when moving slowly they are nearly impossible to avoid, so maybe an enemy that shoots slower moving projectiles to make circle strafing more difficult and less boulders to make some moments of respite a possibility (just my suggestion, I'm sure there are other ways to balance as well).

Also, I feel like a got a pretty good score so I want to show off :)

Developer(+1)

Amazing score!! Better than me hahah

So, strafe-jumping was actually the intended way the game was to be played. However, I realized after barely making the jam end time that there's almost no way people will know that's what they are supposed to do outside the dialogue about jumping, which even then is really cryptic and still confusing. My plan is to make the standard jump apply the same speed as strafe jumping and kill strafe jumping in favor of that. There will also be a short segment at the start of the game that has you complete a super short jumping introduction just to get the player understanding the mechanic. Hopefully that will fix the issue people have with how unfair the speed is without strafe jumping. I don't blame anyone for not working that out hahah

Alongside that, I'll be adding some cool new enemies that spice up the gameplay in fun directions, so hopefully you'll get to see things when the come around in a more polished and exciting fashion :)

Thanks a ton for the feedback though, I'll do some testing with the idea to see how that feels!

Very fun game, with creative concept. I love the overall aesthetic too, I also notice that every time I collect scraps, the shape is different, the details! The run-collect-shoot mechanic also feels good & well executed, avoiding the balls is really hard though, but I think with just sound you can raise player awareness of the enemy also enrich the experience, I can only imagine Doom's music to get player pumped up :D

Overall really solid work, love to see this expanded! Good job!

Developer(+1)

I really hope to be able to have a friend or two join on to expand the game out with good sound and hype music. I definitely agree about sound likely heightening awareness to surroundings. I'd love to get things to be really clean so you can focus on movement and awareness and not just fearful of a sneaky backstab any any second hahah

Thanks a bunch for playing and for the feedback :)

Submitted(+1)

A very unique take on the game jam theme! Amazing design! I keep dying from enemies coming from behind me, but that can be easily fixed with having a minimap/sound indicator. Overall, great work!

Developer

I'll definitely be giving some things a go and see what I can work out to fix the unfair death situation!

Thanks for the feedback :)
