How does your game fit the theme?
GRUNGE is a game where creating a physical connection to your enemies grants you additional health and offensive capability via grappling. Additionally, both your resource for undoing damage and ammunition for your gun are connected, forcing you to choose between undoing damage dealt to the player character or increased offensive capability. Thematically the game also has to do with connections through the use of sticky slime as a recurring motif both in gameplay concepts and stage theming.

My goodness, this is my favorite game in this entire game jam! I literally played it over 20 times, and that isn't an exaggeration. For over an hour. That is how fun this was.
I loved the physics, the way I could yeet the slimes around and smack them into one another. I knew what I was doing, the different types of slimes were amazing, and the boss fight was top-notch. One of my favorite things to do was to find the random items and throw them into enemies until they broke. The theme of the jam was prevalent throughout the game, and I loved every second. I couldn't beat the game though, not due to bad game design, but because I'm not good at it :)
The sound! The MUSIC! Epic, made me feel like a super cowboy ninja/exterminator. Brilliant.
I would suggest adding a health pickup or some way to transfer goo into health because having only a set amount of health per level is hard. I would also suggest that you keep the little gooey enemies spawning at least until all the brain/maco slimes are all dead because there is no way to kill them if you are out of goo and you don't have any items left to throw in the level.
The biggest thing I didn't like was that you had to start all over again if you died at any point. Checkpoints would mean a world of difference!
Dude, seriously, if you put this on steam, added more levels, more story, and polished it up, people will pay for it. I know I would!
Wow, thanks so much! Very glad you like it. The physics and sound were definitely some of the things we spent the most time working on, and I think we were all a little surprised at how much we ended up liking the end result.
There actually already is a way to transfer your goo into health: Once your Goo bar is at least 50% full, you can press E to spend 50% of it to regain about 25% of your total health (but I don't blame you for not noticing that, that's one of the biggest things we wanted to improve after seeing people play the game). We're currently working on tutorial video because there are a couple mechanics we don't explain too well, so hopefully that will clear things up for other players too.
At the very least, we'll definitely release an updated build once the jam is over addressing the current bugs. We do have some ideas though, so keep your eyes peeled... Again though, thanks a bunch for the praise!
Game feels great to play, art direction really stands out, bold move to make black gulch from dark souls 2 the last level tho
This is a polished game, the art is astonishing, and the gameplay is catchy, I loved the music, great game :D
The art, music and pace of the game go so well together! Going deeper into mucus infested areas felt right for some reason!
The art direction is absolutely astonishing (like, for any game, not just a game jam game). The game is hard but it incentivizes you use all the mechanics (I was doing much better once I started holding onto enemies to block bullets rather than throwing them right away).
I do have some tiny gripes: it would be nice if the bar on the right indicated how close you were to having enough goo to shoot. I also wish the gun were just a teeny bit more forgiving, it feels bad to shoot at a group of three slimes and somehow manage to miss all three of them.
Those are tiny gripes in comparison to an otherwise really solid entry though. Great work everyone!
Well, this game is really well polished. I really liked the overall presentation.
Unfortunately the game doesn't have that many levels and the difficulty curve is very steep.
I would have liked to have more player feedback, for example when you get it or when you are able to heal.
Overall i think this game is very good. Awesome work!
It was AWESOME! The game is realy well pollished and the gameplay is fun as hell, I love to grab enemies and send them back just when they're about to explode! The art and the music are very good too! Really enjoyed playing it!
The game that I made has similar grappling mechanic (although the context is a bit different),.
This game radiates ooze.
Great gamefeel, great epilogue.
Great grappling.
Gripping storyline.....
This was a blast! grappling was a lot of fun! I do wish I would have read the description first as I didn't realize you could heal with energy too, whoops. Those pixels look amazing, love all the detail in the character.
Neat game! Maybe a kill counter or something would add a bit of motivation to play it more times?
Great concept and art style, I'm really impressed with how much character you managed to get across in such a short amount of time. nice work!
