I really really wanted to love this game because I know how much work goes into physics and mechanics like this, but unfortunately the controls, level design, and lack of a sense of progression or purpose detracted from my experience.

Super hyped to see this developed more, and glad to see you're doing a post-jam version though!

The non-euclidean maze section reminded me of the bewildered feeling I had playing Antichamber, which I love. Can't think of another game I've played (jam or full release) that gives me that vibe. Would love to see the evolution of this game with fully polished mechanics and puzzles :)

This is a really impressive 48hr entry, it has some great ideas and I'd love to see it developed out further. The camera definitely needs some work though, between the high sensitivity and extremely low fov it is rough, that plus the way the character sticks to walls and corners can make moving through the level (particularly the maze at the beginning) a tough time. I actually quite like the maze though perhaps it should have been placed a bit later on so people didn't just get lost in it before they saw more of the mechanics haha.  I didn't manage to make it all the way through, got stuck after the first cube puzzle, but, definitely the kind of game I'd sink time and burn my brain out trying to figure out! Great job!

Thank you! This game will most likely become a full release, I really love the Idea.

This game was interesting. The idea is cool and i like the simple graphics. However, i pretty much had no idea what i was doing. I sort of understood, at one point, but it was too confusing for my small brain and it was also making me a bit dizzy

Developer

Did you get past the maze? that's where it gets real interesting. There's a hint in the description.

Oh yeah and also if you did, were there any artifacts on the portals?

Awesome game! Really impressive work and great concept! I do wish that the cube could be toggled to hold and that there were more landmarks for orientation, but this is a jam game, we all know the struggle :P.  With some optimization so it feels a little faster and some more levels and decoration, you've got yourself a game that I'd pay a little money for. I do want to say again that it is really impressive that you did portals for a jam game, so great work!

Hello! We've played your game now and we think the concept is really interesting! Unfortunately, I got soft-locked by accidentally falling down a place for a cube. We also had some trouble with picking up the cube. We think this could become a pretty neat puzzle game with some further development! For improvement we suggest you color code the floors and ceilings and just not the different rooms, to help with orientation a bit! Overall a pretty technically impressive entry - Well done!

The movement really impacted the gameplay a lot. The interesting concepts weren't explained at all, so they felt gimicky at best.  The non-Euclidean portion could have been used to greater effect I feel. \I know minecraft isn't the same, but the non Euclidean houses that minecraft trollers make use these much better. The maze was hard, but not challenging; sort of in the way that Bubsy 3D is hard.  I do respect the technical know-how, but ultimately, it added very little but frustration to my experience.

Developer

The maze portion is the worst part, i agree. I did not have enough time to do actual design. 99% of the time was spent on portals, and I did not have time for making the controls and the levels good enough. To me, the controls didn't impact the game much at all, It was more the puzzles that I cared about, and IMO they were pretty good. One of the most interesting puzzles was broken because of a bug, so that might be the reason why the interesting concepts didnt feel explained.

Submitted

The controls impacted it a lot for me because it made the puzzles more frustrating.

Its insane that you managed to make this for a game jam - the gravity and portal mechanics have so much depth and you explored them in really interesting ways. A lot of other people here commented about the movement, which did feel rather floaty, but I don't think it really impacted the gameplay too much so I didn't mind it. Overall it reminded me of the games Portal and Antichamber, both of which I love, so this game really hit the niche for me. As someone who also made a puzzle game for this jam, I've have to say this is the most impressive one I've seen yet.

Developer

Thank you! I didn't know how I managed to make this game either. I'd say 80% of the jam time was dedicated to the portals (which still don't work properly all the time) and only 20% was dedicated to level design. The coding was made a little easier by the fact that I had a basic portal skeleton from 4 years ago that barely worked, but it was a nightmare to get it working. I'd say If I had polished this a little more, It could easily rival the likes of antechamber (It and Superliminal were the games I was most inspired by). But right now it's a proof of concept with 3.5 puzzles. Did you reach the end?

Submitted

Yeah, I was going to stop after I had lost the ball in the last chamber to a place I couldn't reach, but I did end up going back and completing it (that last puzzle was hard but I enjoyed it). In my playthrough, I found the portals to be very smooth and bug free so I'd say the work payed off! Good luck on the full release, I'd love to see what the game looks like with more levels + polish!

Cool concept but the controls are a bit clunky

Submitted

Wow how did you accomplish this is such a short amount of time. I'm impressed. It is a bit confusing and the gameplay is not best, but still I'm quite impressed!

Developer

I don't know either. THe portals took like 30 hours which left only 18 (more like 8 because I need to sleep) to do design, so the gameplay is.... unsatisfactory

Submitted

I've been playing this game for a bit and the overall idea is really cool and a bit mind boggling. But i have to say the controls are a bit sluggish and too fast also you get stuck at the wall if you jump right next to it. That made it a bit more difficult to control. (I've been using the WebGL-Verison.)

All in all it is still something i would recommend to try at the very least out for yourself. I also like the general aesthetical direction this is going.

Submitted

Some jank in the controls and the physics but pretty steezy 😎

Cool idea for a game. Controls could stand to be a bit tighter but I enjoyed getting to try your game out and the maze at the beginning was a unique experience to have as well.

Submitted

I can definitely see the inspiration from games like Portal, Superliminal, and Manifold Garden!  This game has some potential with polish to be a fully fledged game!

Developer

Make sure to rate the game if you haven't already! I feel bad replying this but my brain tells me that the rating counts arent going up. If you did rate it, thanks!

fun game but add a setting for mouse sensitivity.

Where am I? What is happening? This madlad made a non-euclidian game in a game jam.

Developer

If you didn't get to the actual portal part, then go read my reply to the other commenter. The game gets more interesting after the maze part, shouldn't have put that there, everyone is gonna get stuck at the first part.

Submitted

It was pretty nice to walk around, explore,  and see the lighting, but I wasn't sure what to do.  The controls are easy to learn, but consider adding some sort of easy tutorial so the player can learn what to do right away.

Developer

You try to find the exit to the maze, I was worried someone would get stuck at the start. Hopefully you come back to play the game because it gets better.  The directions to get out of the maze (if you are in the maze) are: left at the first intersection, then at the repeating hallway go to the exit out of it, (its not that hard to find), and then just walk straight forward into the main room and continue from there.

Submitted

Nice, I was able to exit the first maze.  The game looks really cool, but it is still a bit hard to figure out.  I think you have the potential for something good here, but I think the game just needs to be a little more friendly to a new player.  Good luck!
