How does your game fit the theme?
The game's concept is "Snake, but you're the apple, and you get a gun". You play as the apple running from the snakes until you find a gun, and then in a second role switch, you kill the snakes.

The apple takes revenge! This was so fun to play and addicting as well, very well done and I love the style to it.

That was fun. Not often you see a game and boss battle done in a game jam.

Ahh no I was so close, the snake got stuck in itself, 😂

The game is really fun, sound, music and graphics are good, gameplay feels smooth and polished, and I really like the fact you integrated the tutorial into the gameplay rather than having a wall of text.

It's kinda funny I've seen at least 5 entries that use this concept for the jam had goofy eyes for the apple (ours included).

Very fun to play and look and feels amazing, only complain (which is barely one) is that the boss fight could probably be harder, cheers.

Developer

Thanks for the review! Yeah, I really held back with the boss because I saw people quitting near the end last jam when I made the game harder.

I really love how badass the apple looks like when it gets the gun... And the snakes with weakpoints are a really nice touch, overall a pretty polished and fun game xD

Developer

thank you!!

There really isn't that much for me to say that hasn't been said... This is just an incredible game, with neat art and cool music!

And I really like the secret thing that adds replayability value. It becomes so much more interesting with that in mind!

Wouldn't the name rogue apple make more sense, since bad apple is literally the name of a meme song.

Regardless it was a really fun game.

Awesome work for a 48h jam, easily one of my favourites so far! 🐍🔫🍎💖🍎

Starting as a more helpless form that needs to reach the gun first is a great two-stage mechanic, and with the throwable apples it has a fantastic stealth-game style that almost immediately becomes a really cool “My turn… 😈” moment. Having the two types of snake with different weaknesses makes it a lot more dynamic too, plus the touch of them getting longer like the classic Snake was neat to realise.

Sprites are very aesthetically cool, love the soundtrack and the retro sounds fit the vibe well. The boss fight was a really pleasant surprise as well, simple but effective way to end; also liked that the “Apples Saved” message at the end does challenge you to play again in a sort of hardmode, very simple addition but a nice touch!

Only issue I noticed is the snakes getting stuck on each other if they pile up in a corner, but you can use that to your advantage, so no complaints really. 😎👌

I had lots of fun with this game! The concept is unique, and executed wonderfully. The boss fight especially gives me SNES game vibes. Great job!

Game feel, sprites, and music are all spot on. The difficulty was on the easier side for me, and I think the bossfight could have used some mechanics from earlier levels (apple throwing, weak spots along the snake body, etc). Overall, this is a very solid game in every way, and I really enjoyed playing it! Great work.

I can't believe your group made all the art all the sound and all the content in just 48 hours. This game is absolutely fantastic, from the smooth movement and animations to the incredibly satisfying feeling of demolishing snakes. The mechanic of getting the gun almost doubles the amount of content (of which there is already a lot). On top of that, it fits the theme perfectly. Definitely the best snake-inspired game here.

I love this so much! The mechanics are so clean and polished! The moment you get the gun you feel so powerful and it creates a lot of tension before you have it. I found the game on the easier side, especially the boss fight. The audio and visuals work well with the vibe of the game. Well done with this!

Its sooo smooth! Also really liked the dynamic of switching between stealth and action.

Everything involving firing that gun felt really good.

The JUICE was spectacular! You feel so powerful the moment you get the gun! Really well balanced in making you panic, then you feeling like a badass! Well done!

Please do check our game as well!

Very nice Idea. Had a few frame drops as i was shooting at snakes in the Browser version, but it is very adictiv. I like the death Animation and the overall character Design

Developer

thank you!!! it's very nice to hear that people are enjoying my sprite work!

I also made a game where you control the food character, but I never expected it could be done as a shooting game. Towards the end I encountered a bug where the screen turned red and did not revert back to normal after entering the next level.

Developer

Thanks for playing! That bug sounds nasty though. You were still able to progress though? Do you know roughly which level it was/what you did to trigger it?

It seems to have happened in level 4, probably when I accidentally clicked the edge of the game.
