I'm not sure the sound fun or nasty. And i don't understand why I shiuld want to decrease size?

Btw, game is good! Try our game too :3

Developer

Yep, I think that is one of the most consistent notes I've received from folks. I'm cooking up some ideas to make that a more relevant part of the game. Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! Glad you enjoyed it! I will for sure check out your game!

Realy nice game, love the art & the sound effects, lol

The games about a slime growing are the best :D

Developer

Hell yeah! Slime games FTW! Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

Hi! You queued your game on my stream and I didn't get around to playing it, great game! The art style was great and mechanics were very fun, I had a few lag spikes when eating many at once but that could be optimised easily enough!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for going back to check it out, glad you enjoyed it! I think the lag spikes you were feeling may be the hit stop I implemented when you eat a slime. But if it's feeling like lag then that is a great call out and something I will check out! (I will also check out if it is genuine lag, as this game is not optimized at all :D)

The sound effects were hilarious! haha :) The style was also fun to look at.
The gameplay was fun and simple to understand.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!!

Full style points on this rating. The slime art and funk music go perfectly together (big fan of Kevin MacLeod music as well)!  I was a fat, fat S class gelatinous cube and it felt great.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! Glad you liked it! I appreciate you taking the time to play it! <3

So simple yet really fun. Had me hooked for a good while. The style and sound effects are really charming. It's just a liiittle too slow when you get to max size and the attacks range feels just a little too small; and the music is a little bit annoying.

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! I agree with your critiques and am looking into improving that when I revisit it!

We chatted on stream about my thoughts, but I'll post what I remember here so you've got it written down!

Generally love the style of gameplay, and the high score chasing feels great. Getting those big combos is 👌

Broadly, I don't think I'd have had as much fun if you weren't there talking about the design. I assumed the aim was to make myself as big as possible, and got a little frustrated by the slow movement speed when I was big. I hadn't really grokked that there was a tradeoff between being big and being small, and that a lot of my actions could make me smaller and more nimble. I like that in theory, but I think some warmup "levels" where you really make that clear to the player would be useful.

Once I did understand that, though, boy did I get going. I've revisited it a couple of times since playing on stream, and I can't express how much I love the feeling of eating 10 slimes that I've carefully positioned into a big row, using all the mechanics I have available for changing size/speed/etc. I think that works really well, and if you were to revisit it, you should push that mechanic far more. Tell the player, make sure they're doing that right from the beginning. Maybe after 20-30 seconds of gameplay to get used to the controls, you might always spawn a bunch in a row, so the player gets that satisfaction early? I feel like that's the "core" fun of the game tbh, it's awesome.

It's also important to note that I never paid attention to my health 🙃 not even a little bit. Often when I died I thought "argh, my health must've been low but I had no idea". I usually like to put the health somewhere near the player themselves, because that's where they are focusing their attention. One to think about for future jams!

Overall this is great, and I just hope enough people figured out that being small is also desirable, so they engage with all of the mechanics that are there.

Thanks again so much for taking the time to play through it with me, your feedback was invaluable! I totally agree with all of your points of critique. I think I realized a bit too late into the jam that the most fun was in eating a bunch of slimes in a row. If I continue to work on this I definitely am going to design around that. I also loved your suggestion about the health; I never would have thought of that! I'm so glad to hear that you've revisited since last night, that made my day!
EDIT: Ah, also I didn't realize you submitted Avant Barde! That's been one of my favorite games in the jam!

I loved your game! I came because of the art but stayed because of the animations. I really enjoyed this game it's great

Developer(+1)

Ah thanks so much! I'm not much of a 2D artist but I was pretty happy with how this turned out! I appreciate you taking the time to play!

fun game. only thing that annoyed me was when enemies would spawn right in front of me and kill me when I was big

Developer

Yeah I think there's definitely a lot of number tuning that needs to be done. I think one of the biggest challenges I faced was figuring out what should/shouldn't scale with your size and whether those things should scale linearly or not. I will take a look at the spawn radius for sure! Thanks for the call out! And thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it <3

I quite enjoed the game! The theme is mostly in the Feeding Frenzy inspired mechanics (and the aesthetic of slimes which is quite fitting, with all custom assets to boot). While the core concept is nothing ground breaking, it has its own creative twist in the form of the more active abilities and your size acting as a currency to use those abilities.

Only real feedback I have is the attack reach feeling a little inconsistent due to the changing screen size which could be mitigated by having a range indicator. There was some minor scuff with hitboxes and enemy spawn distance but nothing that can't be easily ironed out with a bit of extra polish. There probably could be some way to let the player deal with the massive piling up of slimes in the later waves if you end up not eating them fast enough but if that is intended part of the main gameplay loop, feel free to disregard.

All in all, could have maybe done more with the theme but nailed execution and satisfaction, and that makes it a very good game.

Great game! Love the art and sounds. The music drew me in. Can I show game-play of your game on a video?

Lovelllyyyy work! Really liked the art and animations, had a lot of personality OOZING (heh) from it

Developer

Ahhh thanks so much! That really means a lot!

Really neat! I loved the sfx and the slime art! I would have loved some upgrades every amount of points like hp regen (absorbing small bits of other slimes when you eat them) or such. Also some simple background art would be nice, right now it looks like this is a slime fight pit (lol) and maybe add a period of invincibility after eating as I kept getting hit by some of the slimes I was eating.

Overall, I enjoyed playing it and got a highscore of 6750 after 5 tries!

Developer

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback! Upgrades would be a great addition, I may pursue that post-jam! There should be some invincibility frames after attacking (unless something broke, which is very likely)  but it may be not enough... I will take a look at that! Thanks again, glad you enjoyed it!

Very fun game!! Great art and great sounds!! would only add an xp bar or somethins to show how close you are to each rank. Other then that really great job!!
