How does your game fit the theme?
Dice Dice Baby fits the theme by scaling complexity across rounds: players start with basic dice mechanics which evolve through upgrades. As the game progresses, both the strategic elements and the difficulty scale up. Also, one of the phases shifts to a scaled-down battlefield on the dice faces.

Thanks for submitting your game to the stream! If you wanted to look at it again in the future heres the vod timestamped to your game
Great style (honestly one of the coolest palettes and art styles I have seen around here!!) I also really like the creativity of scaling the difficulty with the power of your dice. I thought everything was quite clear, while skipping the tutorial, I found it quite intuitive, but some hover effects for upgrades might make it a bit more clear.
I felt a little bit too overpowered in the dice rolling phase so the balancing could get some love (but 96 hours I also had lots of trouble with balancing!). Then the dodging phase, hmm. I really love the concept of it, but the execution feels a little unsatisfying. You just kind of phase through the red dots and the damage is quite low. I think a differnt type of minigame would work a little bit better, but keeping the concept of, you get stronger, this minigame becomes more difficult as that is very unique :) Then it becomes more of an art to walk the line in between being overpowered and making it impossible for yourself in the next phase. Now I could just add dots, add echo faces and dodge everything a bit too easily.
All in all, I think this could be a great game with stunning visual style, but the minigame phase I would maybe revamp :) Great job!
I love the art style, and I think the idea of a roguelike with dice is really good. I appreciate the novelty of the "dodge the dots" phase, but I think I would rather have more depth during the dice throwing phase and skip this one entirely.
Everything is very well polished, but to be honest, I didn't understand anything about how to play it or the goal of the game.
I didn't understand how the bonus are working, are this mini game phase and how it affect the rest of the game.
And it took me a whole minute to undertand where to click to throw the dice.
Maybe I'm a bit dumb since everyone seem to undertand how to play it xD
oh no :(
i agree that the tutorial is not the clearest and there are much things that should be explained in another way to be more understandable!
i'll answer your questions, even if i doubt you'll try again, but maybe it can be useful for next players too:
- the overall goal is to reach the highest round possible. a round has 3 phases: 1 where you throw your die, one where you buy upgrades and one where you protect your pips.
- the bonus works on faces of your die: you put an upgrade on one of the faces and voilà ! "extra dot" gives more pips on the face, so when you roll it on a later round, you'll get more points (for example a 2 becomes a 3, etc) ; "echo face" is like a multiplier: for example if you have an echo face on a 5, you'll get another 5 points when the die falls on this face, if you have 2 echo faces on a 5, you'll get another 10 points when you roll it, etc ; "shield face" acts like armor for the 3rd phase (the minigame), reducing your damage by 25% for each upgrade on it
- the minigame (which has a rhythm issue and is too long compared to the rest of the game) is the 3rd and last phase of a round: you have 6 "battles" in it, one for each face. for each face, you control the number of pips in this face and you must avoid the red dots, because if they touch one of your yellow dots for too long, this yellow dot is destroyed and the face it was on gets -1 (for example you're on a face with 6 pips, and you lose 2 yellow dots, then this face will only give 4 points when rolled and not 6. but to be fair, it's quite rare to lose pips on the beginning, it becomes something around round 7+ so i can understand you just saw that and had no idea why it was here!
- how to throw the dice is explained in the tutorial and tbh this is maybe one of the clearest things explained there haha
i hope it's a bit more understandable now :)
Oooooh, thank you very much for your explanations! I played it again and it's really fun ! I've reached round 8.
I also went back on the tutorial and it's really strange, because the first time, the tutorial stopped after I through the dice. I never saw the part about money, bonus and defense, and I was really confused. I don't knowif I did something wrong but your tutorial is in end very clear.
Sorry about that !
that's cool to read you gave it another try!! the bug you had with the tutorial is strange, i don't think anyone else got this, i'll try to see where this can come from!
Really well done. Mechanically, visually, and musically impressive. Fun game. I enjoyed my play through. :)
This is a great one!
Fun, simple, addictive. Really a hidden gem, love it.
visually very impressive, and music was great
Wooow the art style + the music this is insane I love it. Great job!
The gameplay is smart and very very well explained by the tutorial. Design pieces go well together. I was very soon bored by the dot defense phase though, making it longer everytime might not have been the right call?
Overall extremely impressive jam game, well done!
happy to read that you found the tutorial intelligible because it appears to be more confusing than the game for many players haha
you're right, there is an issue of rhythm with that phase. i got some ideas to make this phase shorter, less repetitive and overall simply better, if i ever work on a postjam version of this!
thanks a lot for your feedback!
The music and art got me so soon! A 5/5 art work for me!
The game's pretty fun but the audio didn't come up for me, seemed to work for others tho
for me it works on chrome and firefox but doesn't on opera gx, have you tried on another browser? if it doesn't fix it, i have no idea where the problem can come from sorry…
Yeah I'm using it on GX, that must be the problem
there are also a downloadable version if you're against downloading another browser :D
Loved the game, love the animation and the soundtrack! The minigame is a little confusing but I got there
This is weirdly specific, but I love the transition animations with the gear and the die! And the way having more pips on a face helps you in one phase but makes the other phase more difficult is a really interesting trade-off.
Incredible art direction!
Unfortunately I can't say I enjoyed the actual gameplay that much. The dodging game felt very unsatisfying (lack of audio and visual feedback for hits especially), repetitive and overly long. The throwing game, despite its many upgrade options felt very shallow => I feel this should have been like yatzee where you can reroll certain dice.
I am really impressed by this. incredible feel to it, original, nice dice building. The mini game with the dots felt a little out, but Bravo. you've built a really good game.
Ditch the mini game, more dice building ! Great visuals, overall a good entry !
The game is great! But I think it lacks something like dice arrangement and spends too much time on dodge game.
And why I need to play dodge game when I was out of turns?
Nice game, enjoyed a lot alternate between reflexion and dexterity.
I really like the visual style of this game and the layers of complexity in its systems. Great game, I was a bit confused by the tutorial at first but it did the job nicely and I understood it quickly! But you knew that already, you watched the stream!
The game is great!
The main strength is the visual style and animations with the music. Enjoyed the simple, but fun game loop.
Only thing I'm not too sure about is if it fits the theme, because rising complexity is more of a game design thing.
But still, this game is fun!
Very good game, with interesting concept. Good job. :)
