It's really cool that you were able to come up with a myth that fits the theme perfectly. Pretty cool concept and fun visuals, well done :^)

Developer

Praise my friend who thought of that idea :D

I think the concept is interesting -- I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that increasing the weapon's size also reduced its speed, and I think that's a fun gimmick for a game.
However, I do have a number of critiques:

  • Some kind of title screen or pause mechanic would add more to the game than you'd think -- it would allow the game to remain open rather than crash on every death.
  • For health, displaying numbers (or, even better, health bars) would provide more design clarity than just making enemies and the player more transparent.
  • Enemy hitboxes and sprites don't seem to be synced some of the time, at least based on the hit sounds.
  • Most importantly -- don't disparage your own work in the description or the game itself! In my opinion, this is by far the biggest mistake you made. It shows a lack of faith in your own work and sets your audience up to be unengaged with it before they even download.

I appreciate the time you put into this project, and I do think the concept is solid!

Thanks! The hitbox of the enemy is actually ~10-20 pixels larger from their actual sprite. With the player I used a hitbox but the enemy doesn't have one (you can see that in .\_internal\textures) I didn't notice that until the voting period. I will implement your suggestions in the post-jam version of the game!

Neat concept, I like the choice size offers between speed and range

Developer

Thanks for playing!

It’s nothing revolutionary but it’s a neat little game :)

I don’t know if the weapon staying in place is international but i like it as a game mechanic

Good job, especially if it’s your first game, keep improving :)

Developer

The weapon staying in place is intentional to limit the player's attack range. Also, thanks for playing!

Submitted

Wow, this has a horrible style, it’s not enjoyable.

Developer

Can I ask why is the style horrible and not enjoyable? And how can I improve the game?

Submitted

No, the gameplay is not horrible, just the design is somewhat ugly, it is not enjoyable, if it were bnw it would be better.

Developer

Noted, thanks for playing my game!

Submitted

Fun game, some variety in enemies would be nice since you got so many movement and attack options. I do love spamming space and leaving my weapon to finish the job, dont know if this is intended but its hella fun xD

Submitted

great game fellow pythoners

Submitted

The mechanic of swinging around the weapon was unique and fun. Great job getting your game submitted! especially in only 48 hours!

Submitted

It is a fun game where enemies come in waves with increased difficulty. The style and music is also intriguing. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Check my game if you like

Great game ! Fun and amusing, i would love to see more enemies and more attacks, but overall it's a good game ! Especially that it was made under 48 hours !

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I was always worrying that the game is too simple, but seeing all the positive comments makes me more proud of it.

Submitted(+1)

Having grown up in Beijing, this game thematically hit quite close to home. I would perhaps recommend a bit more enemy variety and enemy behaviour variety, but as it stands it's a nice simple little game!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I like the Idea,
don't know how but it should be possible to make it work maybe increasing enemy and player speeds would help and few more mechanics, like throwing the stick or something

Developer

Thank you for your suggestion! I thought of throwing the stick from the start but suddenly chose to spin it around instead (I don't really know why lol)

Submitted

The game was really enjoyable despite being a simple game. I hope you could expand it next time!

Submitted

Cool game! Some more different types of enemies and weapons would be nice, maybe also some different maps. Other than that good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Super cute, simple game. I like the idea that you have to balance your weapon around either being small and fast or large and slow. I also like the idea that you can throw your weapon.

Possible improvements:

Sometimes it's hard to find the enemies. An indicator would be really useful.

The dash is really small right now; maybe increase the distance a bit.

Besides that, I like the idea and would love to see where you are taking it from here. Good job!

Developer

I'm glad that you enjoyed my game!

Submitted

nice and simple, just like momma used to make (๑ᵔ⤙ᵔ๑)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I was worrying about the game being too simple lol

Submitted

simple is best, only issue is probably the 120mb size... why is it so big

Developer(+1)

The actual game files are just 5 mb! The extra 115 mb is the modules to make sure the game run properly on devices (That's what the creator of the engine said). I'll think about a workaround in the future!

Submitted

Nice job! I think the biggest thing that would’ve helped me was more tutorialization - it was difficult mainly because of the learning curve. After a while I got a little more used to it though and it was a fun time :)

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed it!
PS: Sorry if you randomly take damage, I set the enemies' hitboxes ridiculously large

Submitted

It's a nice idea to implement the trade-off between range and attack-speed.

The game is quite difficult though. Maybe it's tied to the control scheme? I was panicking rather quickly, so I kept spamming the space bar and not changing the size of my weapon.

Submitted (1 edit)

Its alright, but i didnt really know the controls, a mini tutorial would have been good, i had to spam kyobard for controls. Nice game tho :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't have enough time to make the tutorial so I wrote in on the itch page of the game XD

Submitted

its ok, just keep it in mind next jam, which python moduels did you use im wondering?

Developer

I made the game while learning Ursina (I just don't want to use Pygame)
