I like the idea of a dice-based battleship-type game, but unfortunately, I got good RNG early on and was able to just about cover the field in satellites. I suppose those are the perils of a randomness-based game.  I did like the art and sound though! It had a nice retro feel to it. Good work!

Adorable battleship game!


* Your difficulty curve was great, I loved it when I started to lose and it started to snowball right around when I stopped enjoying the core gimmick. Kept me engaged for a bit longer seeing my satellite spread get demolished.

* The sounds, UI, etc. all come together to give me a feel of "Missile Command" or a "Battleship" vibe.

* I think you could use some more "boat" effects, i.e. like a radar, just to sell the game a bit more

* One thing I think would really elevate the game is more interesting boat traversal patterns. As-is I found using a 1x2 grid pattern really helped me out in finding boats. Having diagonal boats, for example, would have killed my pattern (at the cost of game complexity, sure)

* The RNG didn't feel punishing until the end, and it took me a bit to find out even where it was (the number of satellites / missiles available). Maybe another mechanic could be more complicated satellites that give pros/cons to searching specific areas?

* I know 7zip is very popular on windows, but not everyone has it. For me I dual-boot and didn't have it installed. One thing to consider the next jam which might get you a few more plays

I was working on my UI for after the game jam as I read your review. Thank you for your time! Everything you suggestes was in my plans but I skipped everything just to get the prototype running and staying on my work-life-balance (Normaly I would have been awake for 3 days straight due to an unhealthy motivation I build up for programming. This jam was to train myself just to do a basic prototype that shows the idea and me not overworking myself ^^)

I almost gave this a pretty bad score, but something about the game made me give it a second shot. I'm glad I did, my second play through was much more fun than the first.

That being said, the graphics are genuinely awful - I had to turn my brightness + contrast down hard, as well as cover the text with post-it notes before I could play comfortably.

What this does prove is that the base game is interesting enough to go through the effort of putting post-it notes on my screen. It starts off peaceful, but the difficulty ramps up really well. There's some good tactical depth in choosing whether to destroy ships, or let them destroy themselves at the cost of another satellite. The variation in shot number is a little too extreme for my liking, and it'd be nice to be able to see exactly how many ships you can let through before your game is over. The online leader board is a really cool addition for a jam game, and easily triples the replay value. 

I'll definitely revisit this for the post jam updates, it's a very unique entry. Just please update the graphics, I don't have that many posit notes.

I absolutely promise that I'll update the graphics and I already chose a fitting color palette for the game. The randomness was sadly too extreme and many things were missing.

I really would like to have seen the post it notes on the screen though haha. The hard-random things will disappear after the gameJam and the radar will get a handy real-life feature (day & night mode) that I've already created.

Post it notes ^^ It's a bit sad that you have to take that measurement but also I had to giggle too.

This game is actually pretty cool. the graphics are a bit harsh at first, but it actually fits pretty well with the theme of the game. The sound effects are really minimal, but they add a lot. The only issues I had with the game is that it seems like even with perfect play, you can only keep up for so long until you're overwhelmed with numbers, and that the gameplay itself can be a little boring just because there's not a lot too it. But still a great entry and I'm looking forward to seeing those after-jam additions!

i made it to a score of 142 until i tabbed out and once i tabbed back in i couldnt click on anything so i never got to see what my highscore would be, BUT i thought it was a neat idea. At first it was pretty easy but when they start spawning in rows of three you have to plan your 7 shots more wisely. Great game! Maybe add different enemies types and some items.

Tabbing made clicking/doing anything impossible? That's something I will look into since that is absolutely a major bug! Sad to hear that it stopped at 142 for you. There are many ideas that will dfinitively be implemented into the game.

i think this game has a lot of potential! i dont quite see the theme implemented, but i could be missing something. i also think the game is a tad bit easy (at least as far as i got, 20-30 rounds maybe). overall tho, great work :)

Enjoyment: There seem to be a lot of grammar/spelling mistakes and errors in the text of the game that make me confused on what to do. I was confused as to what to do the whole time. It was difficult to download, it would have been better if there were a web build.

Creativity: The game is a grid with dots on it to display enemies? The idea in general could have been much more interesting.  I don't see how the theme plays into this at all to be frank.

Honestly the Neon like 80's retro hacker colors on the grid and icons is something I dig and think it makes the presentation way better than it could be. I'm getting that the dice rolling is tied to the placement of the enemies now but that wasn't quite understood on my first playthrough.

This was a lovely little time killer, I enjoyed it.  After placing so many satellites it was hard for me to see them clearly on the board as they don't stand out to much when compared to the coordinates.  It would be great to see this developed further. Good job!

I was unable to play it on my screen, the window acted funky and I could only see the bottom right corner, everything else was off screen and I wasn't able to get a hold of the window.

But from what I could see, both in the little corner, and on your game's page, is you have a solid concept! I'm not sure if the issue was the game, or something on my end, but if you're enjoying this project, please continue to add to it after the jam is over! It looks like you have something here

Normally when you right click on the game's window at the taskbar you should be easily be able to move it with the arrow-keys into vision. The mouse only can 'grab' to it when it's clearly visible on screen. Getting ahold of any corner at all allows you to resize the game in any way you can imagine.

And: Already ahead of you when it comes to 'adding to the game' after the jam ^^

I didn't find it very fun, just click and everything is solved. but I think the idea has some potential if you work on it to give the game some depth.

The idea could work with some changes, but right now the gameplay is pretty trivial, i just place a giant wall and kill all enemies that try to come through

The concept is fine, but yeah, there are some UI issues that you have. It might an issue with the font (and/or element scaling).

You could also look into godot project settings, it might have something to do with antialiasing - either global or of the asset itself (font). Also you could experiment with enabling high dpi in Display -> Window. Cheers!

Heyho.

Yeah, the issues came from the font and the scaling itself. I initially made the game much smaller scale and later changed it. The font was scaled down and then (unnaturally) scaled up thus the washed out anti-aliasing effect. Won't happen in future builds ^^ Thanksies for the testrun.

Lovely game! i really enjoyed it, the only problem i can see is that the text on the top right was kinda blurry, don't know what could be causing that. Anyway really cool!

btw, if you have time, i'd really like to get some feedback on my game too!

This game kind of reminds me of mine sweeper, but in space XD.  After I have put enough satellites the game started becoming more clear to me.  It does feel good to try to fill up the part of the map to try to prevent any new enemies from arriving.  Good job on the game! :D

The game opened in borderless mode a bit outside the screen and I couldn't see the full view, and I didn't understand the rules of the game, a tutorial would help

Thats where I drew my inspiration from ^^ Gonna do an overhaul as soon the gamejam is over. Can you tell me what was troublesome while trying to open the game? Maybe I can do something about it within the engine.
