This is a great concept and the execution is also very good.  My only real complain is that for something called Critter Casino (which is an excellent name, by the way) I felt like I had to really rely on the stacks of cards to get much done.  The critters felt relatively underpowered (except for maybe the bee, but it's hard to notice exactly how the bee is helping you), though that just might be my lack of knowledge with the systems.  Impressive work for 48 hours.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah the cards are very OP lol.... I might need to give them less health

This is a super unique game and I love it! Great job with making such a cool game!

Super unique tower defence game. Really embraces the jam feel and is well put together.

What an interesting concept, I love the TD element of this game, you keep stacking creatures and you can also upgrade, it has so much tactical depth. Awesome entry, loved the graphics!

Great game! Made me want to keep playing. However, getting all upgrade dice when I had nothing to upgrade was very upsetting. I do think I made it to second on the leaderboard though

A set-up period would be nice and a way to pick between rolling an upgrade or a critter. Also being able to roll multiple dice at a time

Very  fun game with good idea, very cool ! It is just sometimes difficult to build a good defense, because the hands don't give anytime to plan or something like that. Something like waves with pauses would have been perfect. Although very cool game with a casino-charm.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Waves could be cool, but I don't want to lose out on the chaotic feel....maybe timed prep phases so you still have to act fast? Interesting idea :)

yeah you are right, I have to admite, that I played the game also later on. And than I understood this choatic feeling like in baby-park in MK8 (eventhough I'm not playing this game currently). But it could be interesting for you to implement something like that. Thank you for answering !

This game is amazing! Music fits really well, art is good, and game mechanics are incredibly refreshing! Incorporating blackjack into your game was a very clever idea. Only tiny thing that could be improved is the balancing: my first go I really struggled, but by second try, as soon as I had upgraded one snake fully, there was no stopping me :) Good luck!

Developer

Thanks for playing! hahaha yeah those level 6 worms are unstoppable....I'm glad you gave the game a second chance!

Great game, so full of charm! I loved the theming and overall feel, and it was a great feeling getting those grubby hands out of there. At times I got a bit lost around what the unit "hp" (?) meant, if it was just an effectiveness thing or if they wouldn't function without it, as well as why they were in that state (is that how they start, or did they lose energy...?).

Overall, great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah totally. It's a tricky one to communicate well.... probably something that would be more obvious if we threw in a tutorial or something. I appreciate the feedback!

"Critter Casino" is the best game name in the jam by a long shot, and the fun graphics, gameplay, and audio, lived up to the title : )

Thanks so much!!

Cool game! The art style and music have a nostalgic feel. It gets chaotic very fast but in a fun way! I definitely think it could use some balancing (for example spiders often just get squished right away, and on the other hand if you get even just two worms on screen then you're basically guaranteed to get to 300 points unless you make a mistake). I also encountered a bug where all of the hands on screen would freeze, and once they had been defeated no more hands would spawn. This left me softlocked and unable to submit the score for that round. But overall really fun game, would recommend!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I agree with everything, I definitely wish we had more time to balance. Glad you enjoyed it even though we need to squash some bugs with our own hands lol

Great experience! I like how the rng was implemented, although if you could deselect a dice after selecting it instead of just throwing it, that would be much appreciated. I think I might save this one to play this after the jam :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Haha yes there are definitely a couple quality of life things like that to implement post-jam.

I really loved that the RNG of the dice roll still had strategy due to the bust mechanic. There is a lot of opportunity for the RNG to screw you over if all you get are regular dice and not the critters, but when it goes well it is very satisfying!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, we wanted to have some strategy in the RNG, but also bask in its chaos. Glad you thought it worked well.

Good game!

Very good game wich kept me playing for a solid 20 minutes, I really like the randomness aspect of this game.

Good Job hope to see more

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it!

Wow, what a cool idea! The art is really nice and the dice rolling is so satisfying to watch. I felt like placing the units was a bit frustrating at times, since it felt like there were a lot more enemies compared to units, and one misstep felt very punishing. Though, I guess that might be a plus as it forces you to play more optimally. Overall though I had a lot of fun playing. A very solid submission. Great job!

Developer

Thanks so much! Yeah, if I could go back and change one thing before our submission, it would be to slow down the hands.  Glad you still enjoyed it :)

Really enjoyed this game, the presentation is on point and love the silliness of it all!

Developer

Thanks!! We're very inspired by the Luigi casino minigame and Warioware lol

This is a great game -- I hope people see it and give it a try!

It took me a bit to figure out a good way to defend my chips, but I enjoyed all of the animation and stop-frames when there would be a hit.

Great game.  I submitted my high score as "ARR" (pirate) -- I'm impressed with how much work you got done in just 48 hours!!

Developer

Thanks :) Glad you spent time to figure it out!

This was great fun! I loved the idea and the aesthetic. Desinged very well.  The passing and information distribution was very well done. I just wish I could have had some kind of queue of bugs to protect the chips rather than waiting for dice as it slowed the game down quite a bit and felt unintitive.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, I wish we had more than a few hours to balance it lol
