As someone who is a musical potato, beat games are always hard for me.

That being said, I had a lot of fun with this one. I really like the idea of being able to place dices to the beat the way you want.

Add a score or a survival timer and this game would be quite addctive!

Great job, awesome concept.

Now we're jamming! The only rhythm game I played in the jam and it didn't disappoint. Clever mechanic! Good game, good music, what else do I need? perhaps a bigger speaker in playing this :D Great work, goldentoy

I really loved this game! The gameplay has a nice flow to it (especially with how the dash mechanics work - using it to reposition while still focusing fire on enemies is super satisfying), and the fact that no die faces are strictly better than one another made it feel really fun. My main nitpick is that because dice faces aren't strictly better by number, it might make some sense to just give them unique icons instead of numbers - that way, the player can't get the wrong impression that only high numbers are worthwhile.

I'd love to play a post-jam version with more enemy types and whatnot as the game goes on!

(edit: added a blurb about the dash)

The best game I played so far!

good concept and good music :)

think 20 minute it too much.

fun to play.

Really impressive that you managed to do all of this alone in such a short time :o

I love the idea of your game but I feel like it works more on paper than in game. Not having control of your shots doesn't feel great. Here are some things you could do that I feel would help the game feel:

  • Keep only half the bars available to the player, so they can make patterns that will be played more often
  • Display what the faces do: I think you have enough space in the bottom left corner to list the faces, with one or two words to describe what they do (dash, double shot, heavy bullet, etc.), or you could just replace the numbered faces with icons of the skill
  • Make the character shoot automatically from the moment the first enemy appear to the moment the last one dies, there is no reason to stop shooting and having to hold the button make the player's hand cramp (and the game more difficult to be played for some players with disabilities)
  • Maybe the dash should not be tied to a die but always available as a second action (right click to dash?) At the moment the dash feels more like an hindrance, and many times I rolled into enemies because of it. Also, it would give players something to do while waiting for the right shot to come

To finish on a good note (pun intended), the songs are all great and the main character looks really good. As I said, impressive!

very unique concept. i really love how the dice pattern not only determines the shooting pattern but also the beat. i wish there's a way to know what each die does. sometimes i'm not sure whether my bullets hit the enemies so maybe it would help to show either the enemy's hp, the amount of damage dealt, or maybe a little visual indicator that the enemy was hit. i love the art especially the head banging animation of the player. the instructions/tutorial could be improved though. good game!

Havent seen a game like this before, awesome! Creativity 5/5. It was also really fun to play, except for the 6 dice (which is a little bit hard to controll when focused on the enemies). The graphics, however, can be a little bit upgraded, especially the ui. But awesome game, great job! I'd love to see this game getting continued!

This was great! Awesome music and I felt like a DJ changing the beats around all while playing a video game! Really, really great job!

Developer

Everybody can be a DJ with the right tools. Maybe this is yours. (now i'm imagining you going to a club as a DJ and playing this game in front of a dancing crowd... lol)

Very creative take on the jam theme and awesome music :-)

Thank you very much. Music is my hobby for 25 years, so it wasn't the hardest thing for me to do. I still appreciate your compliment very much though.

That's an addictive game haha good job!

Developer

Oh, i hope you dont need therapy afterwards. Joking. But thank you for saying this, its a nice compliment for a game dev.

Sooooo... I just played 45min straight on your game without realising... (and I'll probably play some more)

Absolutly love the concept, I was bouncing on my chair in rythme with the gunshots.

The musics are really good and bouncy <3

The art is really cute (especially the main character bobing its head)

in term of feedbacks:

- I felt like the dash/roll on the 6 die  was more harmfull than helpfull for me as it was rolling me into ennemies, so I kinda avoided it after my first play. maybe make it more a normal action (on right click for example) but that's just my opinion (maybe I'm just bad at using it)

- I think the game would be even more enjoyable if you didn't get to pick the side of the dices & had to compose with what you're dealt.

- The game could be more juicy if you had an hit indication & die effects on the ennemies (quick blinking, color change, particle effect, etc...)

- I felt the character movement was a bit slow compared to the ennemies when shooting.

- Sometimes the ennemies spawn right next to you leading to some unfair & very frustrating deaths. (it made me ragequit on my last play because I was so close to finishing) maybe add a minimum distance to ennemies spawning or a indication of where they're gonna spawn before spawning them)

- Being thrown righ back in the menu when you die is a bit brutal. maybe give it 1 or 2 sec before going to menu to display a game over or something. so the player can realise how he died.

All in all. One of my favorite from the jam. Hope you iterate on it :)

Developer

Talk about effort putting into one comment. Dude, i gotta thank you for taking this much time to give a really good critique. I have duly noted your points, and will add them to the list for the future development of the game. I definitely plan to expand on it, so keep an eye open for more. Again thank you for playing.

Didn't expect a lot from screenshot but this was actually pretty good. I really liked making my own beats and experimenting with different dice, music was catchy too.

I wish I could see some information about bpm of the music before picking up a tape, as bpm affects attack power. Enemies spawning at the position of character should be fixed as it made the experience somewhat unfair, still enjoyable tho

Nice game :)

Developer

Thank you for your critique i really appreciate it. You are right with the song BPM though i gotta say it makes no difference, since the dmg is calculated based on the BPM, so you didnt really do more or less dmg which each different song. For the full game i am planing this feature will definitely be reworked (songs will get a more prominent position). I just wanted to show off different styles of music and BPMs for the jam so i just threw in the song pick item. And totally agree with the spawning of the enemies.

The only problem I found is, sometimes, enemies spawned at my face and died for nothing. No chance to react. Other than that, this is amazing. Very unique, very fun, and the music is just stuck in my head now, even personalizing the music with the shooting sounds felt great!

Developer

Yeah. i didnt think to much about the enemy spawning. Sorry about that. But it wasnt the main focus of the title anyway. Thank you for playing it.

I really like this. One suggestion I would have is add a god mode. When playing I just wanted to experiment with how crazy I could get my chain if I had unlimited dice options.

Developer

Noted. Thats actually a neat idea.

Submitted(+1)

Great job! So ... this is amazin ... 5/5/5 ! The music, how the character dances with his head , just wow!

(ManeraG)

Developer(+1)

Yeah, i wanted the character to bob her head to the beat of the music. but you just made me realize that she only is at sync with one of the songs, since i forgot to speed up or slow the animation based on the songs bpm. Anyway, thank you for the great compliment. I really appreciate it.

Submitted(+1)

Oh god, there a game gem here =D

Developer

Awwww. thank you.

Submitted(+1)

This is amazing! Doesn't look like much on the screenshot but the gameplay is great. Once it clicks it just clicks. If you could somehow allow the player to pause between the waves to re-arrange the cubes inside the weapon it would bring it to the next level. Very enjoyable in it's current state either way! Good job dude. :D

Developer

Yeah, my screenshots suck. I mean it can look a bit bland. But my main goal was to get the concept across this jam, everything else was a bonus. Glad you still gave it a shot and liked it. Better timing on how and when to rearrange the pattern so it doesnt clash with the shooty and killy game loop is def on my list for a rework.

Submitted(+1)

OMG THIS IS FRICKING AMAIZING I CANT STOP AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA easy triple 5/5

Developer(+1)

I hope you did stop eventually, dude you need to eat and sleep ;) Seriously, this is a really nice compliment to get. Thank you for this.

One of my absolute favorite of this jam, what a game! Audio is sooo good, please make it a full game, I'd buy it without a doubt ;)

Developer(+2)

Believe it or not, the Audio was the least amount of work ;) I appreciate your comment a lot. Means very much to me knowing where it comes from.
