Game Description
HEAD HONCHO is the office simulator for those who want to rip their head off during a 9 to 5. Except, instead of this severe decapitation killing you, imagine it helping your workers. In this cartoony tycoon, take the role of Accounting Senior Supervisor, Head Honcho, as you manage the everchanging accounting firm at your company, MLM Corp. With the power to wear any common office item as a head, lead your team to victory, as you meet each revenue quota throughout a typical fiscal year.

How does your game tie into the theme?
As part of this theme, the duo at Hangover Sunshine thought about the typical office environment, and how sometimes, you may end up crunching and having an "overload" of work to do. This led to the idea of having the player be a manager who can make their workers produce revenue faster (potentially overloading them with work to the point of burnout and workforce unionization).

I like it!

I don't really know what to say except that I like the concept, but there was a bug at one point where I couldn't cool down the colleague and the progress bar started and disappeared!

Developer(+1)

Yoyo!

Thanks for playing and for the feedback. Will take a look at that bug you faced and try to push an updated version soon!

Again, we appreciate the time you took to play our game!

Wow, absolutely love the art in this. It really has some great charm!!

Like the comment below I also did have some issues with controls idk how long I used the fan for LOL. Although , once I figured out that though everything clicked and it was great fun. Super original and cool concept.

Awesome work!!

Developer

Howdy~!

Thanks for taking the time to give our game a shot. Intuitively teaching controls is definitely something we learned greatly after this jam. The next jam games we work on, including the update we plan for this one, will include better instructions on head switching.

Regardless, thanks for playing our game!

Fun idea and vibes!

As others have said, controls were a bit cryptic, but sometimes that adds to the experience ("learning on the job") ;]
Also, it wasn't clear what I'm doing and whether it's actually working (e.g., I thought I was missing my coffee-shots, but then I realized they just need more of them).
And briefcase is too powerful, which says a lot about our society.

BTW, my first attempt was a window% speedrun (I was just too curious and you delivered)

Developer

Maybe will want to include a leaderboard for speedruns lol. Appreciate your time and feedback on our game!

With the coffee issue you were facing, it looks like we'll probably benefit looking into ways to gauge up that visual feedback for abilities and how to do things. A common trend I'm noticing with many of the comments and feedback we received definitely trends towards cryptic controls, gameplay purpose, and impact to help indicate what needs to get done in the game (and how the heads help do that). The coffee shots could def get a little bit more juice to indicate that the workers are getting caffeinated, are making more money at a faster rate, and are at risk of catching on fire if you feed them more.

With the briefcase head...that is something will look into. I like to say we "were meta" and made it like that, but alas, the game jam crunch limited some of our head balancing.

Again, thanks for giving our game a shot and for shooting us a comment!

I love the art style of the game, the music, the humor, the menu is the cherry on top ("it even has a watermark"). I had to figure out the controls since I haven't read the web-page on itch, I'd say it's a bit risky if the game is downloadable and not a web-game, players may miss the controls like I did. I found a couple of bugs on Linux, the coffee-head sometimes doesn't work and then the game crashes, but I played a few rounds and overall is a fun game with fun surprises :) (I fell off a window). Nicely done.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing our game and giving us some feedback! Glad to hear you enjoyed some of those surprises. Linux is something we'll be looking better into as we make updates to this project and future ones. Before launch, we were banking that web would just work for us instantly before uploading, and did not leave time for much bug fixing when issues started to occur. Either way, will definitely take note of the issue you faced with the coffee ability and also look into including a more intuitive in-game method for communicating controls. Again, thanks for giving our game a shot!

Your game concept is intriguing, focusing on maintaining a happy workforce through relaxation, nourishment, and financial support.
However, my experience was a bit limited—I could only figure out how to blow at things. A tutorial would be nice if you're thinking about expanding the project :).

Developer

Yoyo! Thank you so much for the feedback. Having in-game controls and a tutorial was definitely something we missed for this project (and something that we'll ensure to include in the future).

The current controls for head switching are just the number keys above WASD: 1!) Air Conditioning, 2@) Coffee Maker, and 3#) Briefcase. If you do get a chance, we would love feedback on the other heads in the game. Regardless though, thanks for giving it a shot!

Nice workspace cleaning game. But it feels a bit too repetitive, also I think nothing stops this game to be html5 instead

Developer

Howdy! Thank you so much for the feedback! Definitely agree with getting this game to be HTML5. We did run into quite a bit of issues getting the web builds to work for our game (especially for Mac,  which is why we just put in downloads). Still, web is always better and easier for everyone, so we'll be trying to update the page after the jam once we get time to troubleshoot the issue.  Again, thanks for taking the time to give our game a shot!

Really great presentation right away. Love the "secret" ending of just falling face-first onto the pavement :D

Developer

Thank you so much for playing our game! We were hoping someone would confirm finding that ending :)

If you mark each file with the correct OS, players might be able to use the itch.io app to install the game.

Developer (1 edit)

Oop! Thanks for calling that out! New to uploading on Itch so definitely missed that 😅 Files should be marked properly now

I really enjoyed the humor. Pretty funny concept and design. I didn't quite understand why my workers kept burning. Maybe hitboxes could be more generous?

Developer

Yo! Thanks for playing our game and giving us feedback! Super quick clarifying question, were you running into issues/bugs trying to cool off the workers? I know it takes a couple of blows to get rid of the fire for workers, but am curious if maybe they stayed on fire for longer than they should've.

Just for context, the idea behind the fire was to use it as an indicator for when your workers are working too fast. This could be because a boss comes by and forces them to work quickly, or because you overloaded them with too much coffee.

Regardless, super appreciative of the feedback and time spent playing our game!

At some point, it seemed like no matter the angle I blew them from, the bar on their heads seemed to appear for a tick and never seemed to go lower, like I wasn't hitting them properly.

Developer

Oh worm, we'll take a look at that. Ty ty!

This is a game in which you try to keep a workforce happy using basic techniques such as relaxation, nourishment, and money.

Unfortunately, the only thing that I figured out how to do is blow at things. While I am a fan of implicit learning, this particular environment demands either a tutorial or a controls page.

Nevertheless, it's not bad for your first jam, and you will grow as you continue to jam...also, I think I'm out of coffee, that means it's time for bed.

It just occurred to me, shortly after posting, that there is a link to view the game page when there is no webapp. I may revisit this one later on, but because that link isn't so obvious, it does serve as a bit of a reminder that the game should house that control scheme.

Developer

Heyo! Thanks so much for the feedback and sorry to hear about the difficulties you faced! The in-game control scheme was something we missed out on due to time. I know for sure when we do our next jams that it will be a "for sure" inclusion early on. If you do get a chance, we would love feedback on the other heads in the game. Either way, thanks for giving it a shot!

The sound design and graphics  are top notch,  liked the simple cartoony handrawn style, concept is pretty creative.  Couldn't play the second quota, since workers would quit even after cooling them down, and the coffee worked only once (when they werent asleep).  audiovisually though, it is a well crafted game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Heyo! Thanks for playing our game and appreciative of the feedback!

Sorry to hear about the challenges you faced during it. Def think the game needs a little balancing, but alas, the jam experience does that to you. If you do get another chance to play, and want to prevail against that second quota, one tip we recommend is using that briefcase head. It has an AOE ability that makes the workers less stressed so they don't quit so often (something we totally forgot to teach in gameplay and mention on our ITCH page).

Regardless though, thank you so much for the feedback and for taking the time to play our game!
