u made this in 9 day? im amazed very good game very polished and the visuals are amazing

Developer

In about five or six days… started on the Sunday evening and was mostly done by the Friday. Had a great team working on sound and graphics. Thanks for the kind words!

Really cool game! Loved the visuals and ambience, and even if it wasn't the easiest I do enjoy nice floaty movement like this. I also thought flying into the scene past the instructions was a lovely touch, and of course the chickening! Nice one!

Developer

very kind words! Thank you for playing and rating

Sweet game, reminded me of asteroids (with cooler graphics and a chicken, of course)
The rapid fire mode was kinda broken good for me in a spin-to-win kind of way, i really enjoyed that. I think this was because i found it difficult at first to be precise with the standard laser.

Overall great stuff, found myself going out of the way frequently to collect what i think was the powerup that turned the planet into a chicken. Add a stat at the end for chickens collected? ;)

Developer

oooh, nice idea about the chicken stat!

really appreciate you taking time to play and review. Rapid fire was my fav, there is actually a cheat key to enable it forever ;)

56 kills! Really cool kind of twist on asteroids. I liked the ambience you built. Really felt like space. I didn't quite understand why sometimes the planet turned into a chicken, but I found that amusing. :)

Developer(+1)

Oh yes, the chicken. Well one of the wildcards was "silly mode", and my son (5) demanded a chicken - so the rest is history!

Thanks for taking time to play and leave a review, really appreciate it!

That's wonderful! :) Makes sense now.

An interesting take on the them. Some visual feedback on how much damage the satelites were taking would be nice, so when multiple ones are being attacked we can evaluate which one to defend first. I like the variations on the weapons. The music is nice. A very simple pause menu would be nice (although this stems from me trying to eat soup while playing... ^^) Astroid like controls are fun, however a slightly reduced turn speed would have been nice to allow slightly more control with the arrow keys. Great job with the graphics too. I like the particle effects and the music fits the visual style. Finally, I am a big fan of integrating the tutorial into the game, so the start is a big plus for me.

Overall, a solid little game that has provided me with 10 minutes of fun! Good job :)

Developer(+1)

That is some really good detailed feedback! I actually did implement smoke and fire on the satellites to show damage, but it was too subtle an effect I think. Showing damage on the solar panels would have been clearer.

Controls are another area that people have commented on. I played so much I got rather good at it and I probably needed more fresh play-testers to highlight issues like this.

Yes to a pause menu - good shout. Hope the soup was good!

Love the atmosphere, and the Asteroids like controls, albeit as others said I struggle with them a little bit.

Also there is a little issue the first time the objets spawn, but that one is something I struggle too with web builds, I have yet to find a way to cache the scenes that are needed.

Other than that I really like the graphics and the music is perfectly in tune. Good job!

Developer

thanks for playing and rating! Appreciate the comments too. Deffo didn’t optimise for web - in fact the star field in the background is literally the observable universe as rendered by a lovely free Godot add on - which is somewhat overkill!

Submitted(+1)

Great entry! Love the graphics. Maybe it was just me, but I struggled with the controls; I may or may not have shot off into the dark void of space and needed to restart the game because I couldn't find earth again. Keep up the great work!

hello, thank you so much for playing and leaving such a kind comment you’re not the only person to talk about the controls so I know I need to still work on that and tweak it. Actually I had a very realistic set of controls at the beginning where there was no friction, and you just drifted forever if you moved. That turned out to be far too hard to control, so I added a bit of friction to slow the ship down. One of the things I did want to add, and didn’t have time for, was a mini map or a radar to help you find your way back home if you got lost

Submitted(+1)

Space chickens are a very serious issue and should be not ne ignored.

Good game jam entry :)

Nice audio and visuals. The controls were a bit cumbersome for me, but I feel like they’re fairly standard, I’m just not really a fan of asteroids type controls, I guess. Regardless, this had a cool vibe to it and some nice effects when things blew up.

Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and rating!

You’re not the only person to comment about control so I obviously do some tweaking in this area. It’s interesting as I actually had a very realistic set of controls at the beginning where there was no friction to slow down and that was definitely too hard, so I added a little bit of Friction even though it’s not very realistic for space just to slow you down by yourself.

One of the things I do think I might do for people in future versions if i update the game is to add a radar, so you always know where you can find your way back. Maybe even a big arrow to point back towards the centre of the planet for example .

Submitted

Yeah, those ideas all make sense to me. I agree that friction is weird, but also a good variable to play with.

I also wonder if the scale, either of the objects themselves or the field of view or both, could be tweaked to help that. I feel like there’s a tricky interaction between controls, max speed, view size, and object size that might just be a little out of balance here.

Lots to play with, ha ha. Good luck!

I really enjoyed this game. Great graphics! I loved the chicken and hotdogs!

Vibes are fantastic and gameplay is solid. I was able to beat the game by just defending a single satellite (it's difficult to defend all of them given how quickly AI drones spawn over a wide area). Love the music. Flying through the tutorial to get to the play area is awesome.

Sound effects broke for me on my second and third playthroughs. If I had to guess, some signals didn't get reconnected when a new instance of the level was loaded in.

Great work--3D no less!

Developer(+1)

you’re right. I added a last minute bug to the sounds trying to fade them out for the game over screen!!!

drat!

oh well. At least the main gameplay worked. Thanks for playing and leaving a thoughtful review. Appreciate it!

Submitted(+2)

Another incredible Msuic delivered there. Not sure what happended to the sounds, maybe some export issue for web? At least I was not able to hear some.

I also like the 2D Art again from Glockenberg. Nothing to add :)

For the gameplay I really struggle with these sort of controls but it felt right and polished and enough inertia etc. (It is just me being bad with these things.) some map limitation could have helped. First run I was lost. In my second run I carefully boosted and stayed in the field and was able to destroy those parasites to the satellites and had my fun!

Well made and great job to you guys!

Developer

I added a last minute bug for sounds on second play through! Idiot me faded them out for the the game over screen and forgot to reset the volume!

Submitted(+2)

I really like the chicken.

Developer

Thanks! It was my son's idea!

Submitted(+1)

cool. is that a heart when getting the mask powerup?

Developer(+1)

The thing in the middle? It's a terrible attempt at making a chicken in Blender cos my son asked for it to turn into a chicken. He's five, so well, that's what 5yos come up with!

Thanks for playing and rating!

Submitted(+2)

Graphics (and VFX in particular) and sound were amazing! I liked the silliness switch that turned satellites into hot dogs and that the parasites attached themselves onto the satellites. The movements felt as though I were in space: I had to dose each action not to stray too far away. However, I think that it fits your game :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I would have liked to be able to add a radar to help people locate things and not get lost. Thanks for playing and rating 😊

Submitted(+1)

Impressive game, especially the audio! The ambient music suits the game and the sound fx are satisfying. I found the game a bit too easy after there was only one satellite to defend, but other than that I had a very good time!

(+1)

thanks - I appreciate the comment. Glad to hear you liked the sound!

Developer(+1)

You are right about the difficulty, I wonder if making new enemies towards the end would help? Or making satellites turn into mega enemies if infected too long - that could be interesting!
