This was a great time! A nice mix of difficulty and good hinting (including the # of incorrect) let me puzzle this one out. Also had an immaculate "Santa Noir" vibe. Great job!
Thank you! I worked hard to get the atmosphere/music right so I appreciate that a lot.
What an amazing game! I'm an aficionado of murder mysteries, and I had a great 30-minute experience playing Ho-Ho-Homicide.
If you create another game like that in the future, please let me know, I would love to play more!
Okay, now talking about the technical aspects, the music is great, the art style is solid, and the gameplay is very easy to understand. However, it requires a lot of thinking to reach the solution (which is great).
10/10 I wish I could forget the plot to play it again!
Really appreciate it! I hoped to hit the right balance of being easy enough for the majority of people to solve, but hard enough to still make you work for it, and feel smart by figuring it out. Glad you felt like it worked overall!
Fun little game. I was able to figure out all the answers except the actual name of the person doing the hiring. Knowing that I had all the others right, I was able to brute force that one answer by attempting all the names until I found the right one. Not sure where the clue was supposed to be that would've allowed me to figure that one out without brute forcing it, though.
There are admittedly some clues that are intended to be a little more wordplay focused and abstract, which I acknowledge that some folks may not jive with quite as much. But I wanted to put some slightly trickier clues in because I love solving those in games as a player. Hard to find a balance that's right for everybody, but really appreciate your perspective!
I was convinced that I almost had it all together, only to make it back to the van and find out that I was completely wrong. :/
Definitely wasn't expecting to see a murder mystery for this jam. I do wish there were more hints though. Hints that pointed to specific pieces of the puzzle such as "the culprit had a different goal that night - what was it?" or "whoever hired the killer must have had a motive - who are Santa's rivals?" would have been helpful, since I didn't get anything from the first two hints at all.
Still am interesting submission nonetheless.
Thanks for the feedback, appreciate you playing!
So cool! This was such an awesome, complete experience. Every aspect of it felt well crafted, and it was a lot of fun figuring the mystery out. Kudos for this, definitely among my favorite entries!
Glad you had fun, thanks for playing!
Glad I played this. 100% enjoyable, nothing to add.
Had to look up the solution though because I missed a single keyword somewher
Really appreciate the compliment!
The quality and quantity of art is impressive!
I don't know if I happened to "optimize the fun out of the game", but once I figured I had to collect keywords, I went through all the locations clicking everything and only then started to piece together the story. Which is a shame because I wanted to be invested in exploring organically. But its not a negative, I just wanted to make you aware of more anxious playstyles i guess lol.
Also, being able to bring up the blackboard anytime instead of changing locations would disrupt less the train of thought, and maybe players would have less trouble solving it :)
Great job
All good feedback! Thank you for giving it a go!
Great art and story - I thought I had a compelling plot that was completely different from the final answer :) I also really like the detective mechanics - of finding words and then putting them in frames! I wish more "detective" games were like that - maybe I would enjoy them more :) Well done!
Thanks so much!
Cool game
Appreciate it!
I had a lot of fun playing this. I got a little stuck in the end because I was sure of the storyline. I ended up looking at the solution and I got the motive totally wrong! I love mystery detective games and this was great.
Thanks for enjoying!
Really cool project, I loved the mechanics for collecting clues and putting them together in the end, it made for a challenging puzzle! I needed the hint at the end to get the solution right, but had missed something in the plot that I could have figured out. Really engaging, great music, the art was all cohesive and good-looking.
Awesome entry!
Appreciate your kind words. Thanks for playing!
I love this. Was very unique and interesting. The personality you gave each of the christmas characters was really cool. I had some trouble figuring out the solution, but got there eventually.
Glad you liked it, thanks for playing!
This feels almost like a miniature version of one of my beloved point-and-click adventure classics. Such lovely storytelling in such a tiny format, and cute world-building too. Found myself solving the case on second try. It's easier once you figure out which clues you really need.
That's very much what I was going for, glad it scratched the itch for you!
I liked the art!
Thanks!
