Simply amazing and polished game. I love the visuals and controls.
I really like that you are able to arrange windows on the screen.
Would you be willing to share the sources, so others can learn from you?
Anyways this is game is a winning candidate! Good job!
Thank you!
And yeah, I could definitively share the source code of the game ;) - Tbh, I didn't expect someone to be interested in it XD
Super polished! Wow!
The font is not that good to read.
I don't know if it was a bug or not, but the colors of the password challenge changed between one attempt and another.
Maybe I'm bad at it, but I found it very complicated. I almost don't get past the tutorial :( Between having to read the instructions with the time decreasing, the colors changing between attempts and me having to remember what the results of the previous attempts were (with my terrible memory), I needed to try six times to complete the tutorial and I couldn't complete the next level. Even setting the time to infinite, the password kept resetting without me being able to guess the correct one.
The game is SUPER polished, very beautiful and the SFXs are great (I would just make the clock tick a little quieter than the other sounds), but I believe an adjustment in difficulty would help a lot. Maybe a history of the last attempts, maybe instead of having a limit on attempts, after a certain amount, each error decreases a few seconds off the time.
Anyway, congrats on getting so much done in just nine days! :D
Thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it!
Firstly, the colors are supposed to change to prevent players from memorizing the manual. The instructions only change in that puzzle tho, but due to many complaints about that, it will be removed asap.
Now, let's talk about the font. In my opinion it is perfectly fine (but I have to agree that some characters next to each other are kinda complicated to understand, like O's and D's). Did you try decreasing the post processing effects? That would make the text a lot more readable. If so and you still couldn't read the text, I could try improving the font.
And about the difficulty... It's a very subjective topic - some people may find the game to be easy, but some people may find the game to be hard. I think I could add a simple difficulty select screen, that would definitively fix that problem! Also, you don't really need to memorize your previews attempts in the password module (that's good because I also have bad memory XD). Sure, you might get into complicated situations if you don't, but it's definitively possible. I'm sorry for all the frustration you had with it tho.
Actually. I REALLY like the idea of decrasing the time left after every error. I'm definitively going to try to add that to the game later.
Again, thank you for the feedback and for playing my game :D
Excellent audiovisual polish, very slick with all the bells and whistles-- though I basically had to turn the postprocessing down a notch if I was going to read all that text. Feels like a single player riff on "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes", which is one of my favorite party videogames of the last ten years. The timer felt a little tight given that I was seeing minigames for the first time ever near the end of my 20 minutes-or-so run, but overall a great job.
Thank you! Yeah, this game was indeed inspired by KTaNE. For my surprise you were the first one to ever mention it XD
And about the short time... I want the player lose a few times before beating a level, something like Roblox Doors - A game that you get better as you play. In the beginning you'll have to read all the text to understand a certain gimmick, but after a few tries you're already getting through in a few seconds.
Again, thank you :D
Visually and aesthetically, extremely polished. I felt a lil overwhelmed by all the text I had to read which put me off a little bit.
Overall a super nice and polished production. I'm impressed! (just not by my own skills with cracking the numbers!)
Crazy level of polish. Very visually cohesive. Very well made.
Thank you!
Really cool game. Everything feels very polished and it all works well together. Considering this was made in only a week - Absolutely Insane.
I might be stupid, but I couldn’t figure out what “Exceeds Threshold” meant. I wasn’t sure if this number was meant to be considered, or not, and so that made guessing a little challenging haha.
Overall, really good entry. Well done!
Thank you!
The "Exceeds Threshold" means the number is higher than the correct number in that position but in fancy words XD. And no, you're not stupid, you're not the first one to get confused by that lol.
I could list everything but I think it's just a complete package overall. I'm not good at guessing the numbers, but the whole thing is just good, and I'll save it to play later for sure
Feels like a complete game. The visuals, the animations and the audio are perfectly made and come together very nicely.
The puzzles felt cool, but not sure how I feel about the number puzzle. The ones with 5 numbers felt like they were too dependent on luck. It could be that I'm just too stupid, but it seemed like there weren't enough attempts to reliably solve it.
But overall this is by far the most polished game I've reviewed so far. I think it might even have potential for a commercial release.
Thank you!
About the numbers puzzle, it is very based on luck, but it's 100% possible to get it right consistently. It just takes some time to make a good strat.
Hello! Have to say I had a lot of trouble with the number wordle puzzle. Very color blind, couldn't tell the difference between the yellow and the green at all, even with the post processing off. Random colors threw me for a loop too. Couldn't even get through the vm.. smh. Beautiful game though, and great concept.
I'm sorry to hear that.
I did think about adding some sort of colorblind filter to the game but I thought it wouldn't be necessary. Your comment proves me wrong :/
Very nice looking game! A lot of reading to get into it, but I've stashed the game away to play and give more attention after the jam :)
Thank you!
The game is inspired by Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. That's why there's so much text to read XD
Fun game, I really enjoyed coming up with a password strategy! The graphics are highly palatable, but a mix of the font and glitch effect does make the manual text sometimes hard to read.
Thank you!
Yeah, I'm aware that some people may find the text hard to read with all that post processing. You can turn it off in the settings menu ;)
The Game looks SO good, amazing job!! I love how much work you put into your itch page as well! It looks crazy good (Even a custom cursor!?) I know how hard it is to get gifs to line up, so I appreciate the scrolling background on the itch page as well. And about the game, it looks like it could be an actual game on Steam with the amount of polish it has. Some feedback I have; it’s a little hard to read the hack manual because of the font and the glitch shader so maybe turn that down a little at least when you’re looking at the manual. My other thing was not as important, but if you wanted to update or work on the game later, maybe think about adding more visuals to the manual instead of words, I think that would help players understand the game and things faster.
Thank you <3
About the itch page, it's a custom css code for styling. If you're interested I can tell you more about it. It's not that complicated l once you understand how it works XD
About the readability, you can decrease the post processing effects in the settings menu.
Lastly, it would be really cool if I could make something more like markdown input in the manual with actual tables, lists, etc. That's actually a really good suggestion! I'll see what I can do about it after the jam ends!
Again, thank you so much!
Ohh I didn’t see the setting for turning it down lol.
Also, I would love to know more about how you did the CSS, I already know a pretty good amount about CSS so Ill probably understand. Also, how do you get access to it? I think I read somewhere once that you have to request it?
Do you have Discord? I think there is a more appropriate place to talk ;)
yeah, heres my username fluffyfishslimy
Great use of the "hacker" simulator! I loved the punchy visuals and great sound design to boot. I enjoyed the mechanics as well! Personally I don't love to read through stuff but I figured the mechanics out in the end. I do think that for the password guessing game (which, by the way, I thought you did pretty well spinning Wordle into a mechanic) the colors were a little confusing, i.e. I thought green meant good and yellow meant displaced but after figuring things out I got pretty far! Amazing work.
Thank you!
I have to agree that I took some high risks for this jam. But I'm glad you managed to understand the game in the end :D
About the colors, they are random. If they were'nt, the player could just memorize the manual, and I tried my best to prevent that from happening with every puzzle.
Again, thank you for your feedback ;)
Oh yeah, the colors confused me too, I didn’t know why they worked sometimes and sometimes not. Maybe it’s best if they don’t switch around?
INSANE VISUALS!
Thank you :D
