Game Description
Erase terrain in your way to navigate the underground glacier to survive waves of enemies. Find outposts to upgrade your mech and replenish your resources.

How does your game tie into the theme?
Game is based around erasing tiles to create an arena, rather than having one already from the get-go. Enemies try to stay within the tiles you erased so you got to try to make the best path to shoot down enemies as they chase you.

Nicely done! Fun gameplay - a bit stressful at times, but just enough!

I had a bit of trouble adjusting to the shooting early on (it seemed to shoot a tiny bit besides my actual cursor location), but overall everything worked very well and was quite intuitive.

Balancing the mining, shopping and search for other outposts between waves was quite challenging as time went on.

Good job on a great submission!

Oh, I did like the sounds during combat - the integration of the FX and the sound brought the combat to life.

I like the fact that in mining the target tile heats up before it breaks, and this means that if you're trying to mine during an attack wave you can return to mining when there's a break in the enemies, and haven't lost all your progress - nice touch.

I searched for the shop, but never found it, and eventually died when I ran out of bullets.

Cool entry! The artstyle is pretty nice, mining is very satisfying. I somehow wish I could make a labyrinth and trap the enemies in there. I wonder, is it somehow possible to buy more upgrades?

Developer

Thanks!! You can buy more upgrades if you travel to other shops following the glowing green outpost icon that acts as a off-screen indicator. I didn't explain this at all in the game which makes it kinda hard to figure out :p

Submitted(+1)

oh, I didn't notice that.. I guess I gotta replay it

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

For the first few minutes I was mindlessly mining. It wasn't until after I survived my second wave of attacks that I noticed the icon telling me how close the next outpost was. I felt like there weren't enough resources on the map and I couldn't upgrade because all my money was spent buying more ammo. I think with some tweaks to balance, this game could be really fun. Especially if you include the boss that you didn't have time for. My favorite part was the music shift between mining and waves of enemies. Nice entry!

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the shifts between waves of enemies and the gathering resources... quite a few good mechanics in here. Would have loved to seen a bit more polish on the visuals, Audio was a nice touch with what sounded like a subtle countdown before the next wave started.

Developer

I'm glad you liked it :) Haha yea 99% of the art is my programmer art cus our artist had to drop out of the jam, I think I'm slowly getting better with my art as I have to make more sprites. I'm glad you liked the audio, the music was made for the jam!

I think I died in the fifth wave. ;-;

There is a small bug where, if I am too close to the wall, the mouse attacks with the dash and disappears, but remains there inside the wall attacking me.

Other than that, the game was very interesting, congrats!

Developer

Yeah they do go into the walls and sometimes get stuck in there. I tried to fix it but I don't think it worked lol. They caan go through walls, I disabled the collisions because having 200 would cause huge lag with physics, so I implemented a context steering avoidance system to make them avoid hitting each other and walls which helped with performance.  However in the gameplay you rarely see more than 50 so I think I could have just left collisions on lol.

Thanks for playing!!

Took me a sec to figure out what to do, but I had a lot of fun with this!

Developer

I wish I could have included a biiit more info about how to get more upgrades from the different shops, but I'm glad it was able to be figured out. Thanks!!!

A wave-counter would have been nice, but other then that, I really enjoyed the game.
Grafics, while simple, were consistent and nothing seemed out of place.
Overall a smooth experience.
The idea of digging (aka erasing) your own path to defend was a nice take and I was delighted by the good sound design.
You did a greate job <3

Developer

Thanks!! :)

Very fun take on the theme. The graphics were a tad simple but the gameplay/sound/music (especially how it changes to the beginning of the wave)/ the shooting effects were great. I played this one several times and felt like I was making process slowly but the difficulty/cost ramp up seemed a little too steep. Is this endless or can you beat it?

Thanks for submitting - really enjoyed it.

Developer

It is endless. It's procedurally generated too so you should be able to explore infinitely. I wanted to include little nests that you could dig to and if you got 8 it would reveal the location of a boss nest to beat the game, but that was waaay out of the scope haha. In hindsight I should have at least added a wave counter so players could like get a highscore for at least some accomplishment. I think I did make the difficulty scale a biiit too hard for how much gems you get and how much it costs. Thanks for the feedback!

The music was made for the game specifically by one of our jammers, I'm glad you liked it!!

Thanks for playing! :)

I really like the idea, I feel like this could definitely be turned into a full game. The core game loop is really fun :D

Developer

Thanks!!

I like the concept. For me, the enemies were too similar in color to the background which made them very hard to spot. Perhaps that’s by design and it’s just not a game for me :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! It was definitely an oversight by me. The artist I was working with this jam wasn't feeling well so my programmer art made it to submission. I should have thought about making the enemies stand out more.

Between the

  • low mining/gun damage
  • upgrades being locked to 1
  • ramping ammo/repair costs
  • slow walk speed with enemies spawning in any direction

this felt like I was drowning, just trying to get anywhere or do anything.

I wouldn't usually put it so bluntly, but also I felt like these were intentional design decisions in this case >.<

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeaaa... The day after I submitted I tried it again and I made things way too harsh lol. I wanted it to be fairly hard and to feel like a struggle, but I went overboard. I still struggle a lot trying to balance my games. Thanks for the feedback

Nice work. Lots of good stuff here. Melting the rocks into glowing slag felt so good which is great cause that was most of the game lol

Developer

Haha yeah it was kinda mining simulator at times, but who doesn't yearn for the mines sometimes? Thanks for playing!!

Nice work mate :)

Cool concept. I like the waved enemies.

Developer

Thanks!!!

Very cool idea, I like the mix of exploration and fighting waves of enemies! As another commenter said, I thought the shooting mechanics were really good.

Developer

Thanks I'm glad it felt good!! I spent a lot of time trying to get the fast moving projectiles to behave the way I wanted :P

Submitted(+1)

Nice start of a game. I'd change the controls that forward is always towards the robots face. So if I press the up key it shouldn't drive north but in the robots local forward direction.

Developer

If I do continue this game I want it to feel more like you are actually piloting a mech, so I would def try out what you suggested. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool and chill game! I spent a lot of time mining and it felt very good. The rats got me early cause I wanted to reach the waypoint but I hadn't repaired from the other waves so that's on me. I quite liked it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!!

Cool game, gave me Dome Keeper vibes but makes you feel a bit more “in the action” as you’re being swarmed. I found the next shop spawned a bit far away and was bit challenging to get to.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah I love Dome Keeper, it definitely inspired me with this game. Sorry bout the balancing, sadly I didn't get to do much playtesting(soo manyy buugs) especially with new players, so it may be a biiit harsh. Thanks for playing :)

The Idea  is solid!

Developer

Thanks!!
