Awesome game, once I got the hang of zipping about with the mouse. Some really cool mechanics and love the simple colour scheme, used really effectively. Addictive and fun - nice work ;)

Host

This was a fun ā€œsnake, eat all what you canā€ game. šŸ

GAMEPLAY
An enjoyable game with a nice "twist" on who the real monster is. The controls worked well, and the dash was a fun addition. It was tricky to time, but also valuable since it allowed you to eat certain pumpkins you couldnā€™t otherwise reach. The variation through the levels kept it interesting enough, with just a bit more to do and avoid each time. More enemies, hazards, and different environments would enhance it even more, but considering the short jam, itā€™s already great. Maybe for a future update, the game could evolve like classic Snake, where you grow longer with each item eaten, affecting areas you can access or enemies you can fight.

The black pitfall penalty felt a bit harsh, with a full restart. Perhaps losing a heart or resetting the level but keeping pumpkin progress would be less punishing.

VISUALS
The graphics looked great, with the orange pumpkin blood trail fitting well aesthetically. The pixel art style, along with the animations, particles effects, dash effect, and environment, was nicely done. The subtle camera shake added to the immersion.

AUDIO
The music had a great beat that I liked, and the sound effects completed the experience well.

THEME
The theme was definitely incorporated through the story and the gameplay.

All in all, an enjoyable game jam entry. Well done šŸ’Ŗ!

Impressive!

I really loved the aesthetics, black and white with glimps of color always looks nice, and those "blood" effects are really nice! The intro is awesome, but I think an option to skip it would be cool (when you play multiple times it can be a bit long)

On a gameplay perspective I liked it, it's really fun, it's varied enough to me as each levels I did introduced something new. My only complaint would be about the dash that always aims at the mouse even if you do not touch it, which is a bit confusing sometimes.

Overall it's a really good project, nice!

I love the intro and also I felt so sorry for the pumpkins... the worst is: After a while I had fun chasing them! ;_;

The arrow is much needed and a big help when searching for remaining pumpkins. I think a bit more variety with the pumpkins could improve the game, maybe a big slower one, one that walks in circles...

Sadly I encountered a bug where I could not eat anymore. So I was not able to play through. :(

The intro really shines and gameplay is nice as well. Nice submission!

Thank you so much for the feedback Meru! Iā€™m really glad you liked it. Iā€™ll be testing your game soon as well

Regarding the variations, itā€™s a shame there wasnā€™t enough time to implement more features. I had some extra ideas, like the destruction of pumpkin tents or even exits that they could use to escape

As for the bug you experienced, I think it might not actually be a bug haha. Starting from the third level, there are pumpkins that have a sort of armor around them. They move more slowly than the others (maybe I implemented that subtly), and the only way to devour them is by using the dash

ohhhh! I didnt notice that. I would expect to bump into them then maybe. I will try again!!

Developer

Hope you enjoy it! After this enemy, thereā€™s still another type at the end. I added these subtle elements to try and bring a bit of variety to the gameplay

Awesome game dude! I loved the art and the movement was satisfying, great work.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the feedback! Iā€™m really glad you liked it! This was my first time trying to create that kind of movement, so itā€™s great to hear that it worked well. Your encouragement means a lot!

Nice game! I love the little introduction. My only thing I would change would be to make the player only lose one heart when falling in a hole so you don't have to restart the level from the start. It was also my bad. I forgot you could use the movement keys, and moving only with the dash isn't the most convenient šŸ˜…

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate the idea and I'm glad you had fun. I hadnā€™t thought about the hole, itā€™s something simple to implement that would really enhance the gameplay. Iā€™ll definitely keep that in mind for the future. And it's amazing that you managed to get so far using just the dash haha

Very cool! Reminds me of a monster from Spooky's Jumpscare Mansions, one of my favorite horror games :) great art and sound design. Intro was very polished! Asking the user which keyboard setup they have was a nice touch. Since it's short, the gameplay became repetitive, so with more time, more varied environmental elements would make it even more fun :)

Developer

What great feedback! I really appreciate your words and Iā€™m extremely happy that you liked the game. I admit that due to time, the gameplay became a bit repetitive, but I tried to add as much variation as possible, even if subtly, like the new obstacles and the three types of enemies. I wasnā€™t familiar with the game you mentioned, but Iā€™ll definitely check it out, now Iā€™m curious about it haha

Fun cool game. Really fits in with the theme. I would add some variations to spice up the gamePlay.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! Iā€™m glad you had fun. Unfortunately, I couldnā€™t add more due to time constraints, but I had several ideas in mind

Great game! Very promising idea, would definitely play more of it and seems totally sellable to me with some more enemy variation and maybe more attacks/objects. I was on level 3 and suddenly I got a black screen and couldn't continue, but I was having a really good time playing it :)

Developer(+1)

Iā€™m extremely happy with your feedback and that you had fun! I initially planned to add more variety of objects and obstacles, but unfortunately, time was my "monster" haha. As for the black screen, I believe itā€™s a bug in the HTML version, but Iā€™m not sure of the cause. I could only make a good import without that issue for Windows
