Hot intro good work.
For a first game jam, this is definitely not bad! The story was fun, although maybe a little text-heavy—I found myself clicking through it quickly after a while. Theme was in the game as was the color palette..check.
The platforming part was enjoyable, though the controls could use a bit more polish. The sound was good, but the shooting sound almost blew out my speakers—it was really loud! Self-made art was also nice.
Overall, a solid first game jam entry. Keep it up—nice work! 😊
Impressive game, especially since I've read it's your first jam. I liked the idea, The theme was captured very nicely as well. The designs were really good as well. The story although it needs some fixing is nice as well. However the things already mentioned are pulling the game down for me. No sound effects except gun shot from the second character and the dialog. No music. No enemies to fight as a monster and also I agree with someone who mentioned that visual response for hitting monster with a bullet would help. But despite that very impressive game. Good luck in the future jams, I'm pretty interested how will your projects improve over time.
I think you managed to capture the theme of this game jam very well. Good job.
One thing that threw me off was the loud bang sound of the gun. I was using my phones and RIP my ears.
I can see you're passionate about telling stories, so I hope you keep making them and I'm looking forward to what your games will look like in a year or two from now.
A good interesting game works, the plot is interesting, though I don't know English, so I didn't understand anything, well, shooting is fun, jumping is also fun, and that's all you need
Good job, i really liked the fire at the beginning. Platforming was a bit hard at times, and when i turned into the monster all humans were already dead i don't know if that was the intention ?
One tip for the platforming, if you let a player turn around don't move him right away i had often that i fall of a platform just because i wanted to change the direction i was facing
But i do like your interpretation the theme, well done
When the game started, I wasn't expecting the screen to be filled with fire, it was a good intro to the game. The platforming is a bit difficult due to the implementation of the movement, it might be the fast speed combined with the small platforms, making it easy to fall off of them. Some visual feedback when an enemy is hit by a bullet would add a lot to the combat. The enemy design was great. Congratulations on your first game jam, great work!
I see this is your first game jam. Everything is fully functional gameplay wise, and there are even somewhat elaborate death animations. I'm impressed with how well the mechanics work overall. I did not run into any bugs. The level should have been a bit less flat to force the player to kill the monsters, however.
The opening level looks incredible with the fires. Hearing you made them yourself, I gotta give you a major thumbs up. The second level impressed me less. Perhaps if it was in a sunset it would feel tonally consistent with the first level.
My big complaint other than the lack of sound is the story. The perspective switching itself is relevant and you adhered to the limited palette, so it's a pass overall thematically. However, the script very much feels like a first draft with things like grammatical errors or how the overreliance on exposition.
I'm sure given a longer development cycle, the dialogue could have been touched up. Understandably, there wasn't much time to make it but I see the vision of what you were going for. Kudos.
Very cool idea and I liked the gameplay and art however I am able to just skip the whole level by running on the ground but otherwise great game
Interesting history and funny gameplay, I like so much the monster's design. Some parts of the map feels empty, that's my unique complaint.
Big kudos to wrapping things on a bad ending! I like when my expectations are twisted, it makes for a more engaging story. I also like some of the visual framing- especially in the beginning. The fire is all around you, behind you, consuming the screen, and as you leap up the steps, away from the flames, you go back down to find that there are none- there are two chances in the game, and two mirrors. I like these details! it would be cool to have the dialogue or the story change based off of if you decide to kill the monsters after the first dialogue. I could see it being played out like:
Oh so that's how you remember it? Don't change your memory now- are you going to choose to do the "right" thing out of "fear"? Because you finally feel you are being "watched"? or something like that (or maybe have it to where you are forced to kill one, so that if you do a pacifist run, you aren't still labeled as a heartless monster).
Despite the dialogue not having sound on the first cutscene, this is a pretty great take on the theme! I didn't even notice the direct use of the palate- it looked natural! I was pretty invested, especially after the ending. You're a monster/10
Thank you so much for your incredible feedback!!!
Hey, we had similar ideas! Love the dialogues. Nice game
Thanks a lot!! Yours is a masterpiece :D
This was a neat take on the theme! I like the art direction and the dialogue was original and fun. If I would improve anything, it would be making the controls a bit more forgiving. I often missed jumps or didn't jump at all when near an edge. Overall nice job with this!
Thanks a lot for the feedback!!! I'll stay improving it until it gets as much content as I first planned. I'll make sure controls turn more forgiving and comfortable.
I like the approach on the theme by giving you the ability to play "both" sides.
What I did not like so much was that I had trouble traversing the level and that's why mostly rushed through without killing anything. After I was put into the different perspective all humans were already dead so I was not actually killing anything but yet I was the bad one for killing everyone.
I think a "pacifist" ending would have done the game good.
I was also missing sound effects and music to set the szene proper. Only the dialog sound was there when I played it.
Nonetheless you finished the game in time. You have a story and you have put a lot of work into it while still using only the colors provided for the jam. Your flames were well done and I had to look twice to see if they are part of the palette.
One last suggestion: While in hell your character is slow and does not jump very high. While alive you are racing and jump like crazy. Maybe adjust both to the same values and meet them in the middle.
Thank you very much, it is my first GameJam and at some point it was difficult to solve problems and even develop more things for the game. I'll use your advices to make better any future game.
