That was really fun, the gameplay was cool and a nice twist on traditional turn-based. I got the hang of it fast and really wanted to keep playing after I was done. The attack animations were really nice too.
As some other people said, it would have been nice to have more items that weren’t only useful for Biboo. Even if they still had non-damaging effects it didn’t feel as good to pick them up most of the time.
I had a small issue with a few rounds where Kaela and the opponent moved off screen as a result of using attacks/knockback, usually to the right. Maybe that was only because I didn’t switch off the web version though, cause it doesn’t seem like anyone else commented on it.
Great game, would love to see more if you want to continue working on it!
This is such a Fun Game and I could always replay it because it is just Fun. I even like challenging myself by using all the useless Items (like Halu and Dirtblock) after getting them LOL definetly one of my favourite Games in this HoloJam!
The gameplay is really fun, interesting, and surprisingly strategetic! You can't really go guns blazing aside from Biboo (And there's a lot of Biboo specific items, which I will get to later). Choosing items for battle also was fun, with them being splattered around in the inventory and you choose ones within the time limit. I think the art style works really well for the theme, and I like the dialogue boxes and the easter eggs in the items. I was not expecting to see a "I gotta eat sushi or I'll die!" reference LOL! The gameplay is really fun, as I mentioned earlier and I wanna continue playing!
Some critiques are that there are a lot of Biboo-specific items but that's about it. If there are more items for Ollie and Zeta I would've think it will work nicely. Also, I would've liked some background tracks instead of the static. Would make the game more immersive ;)
Overall, great entry! Well done!
Oh wow, I actually clutched out the Ollie fight with a lucky set of cancels lets GOOO -- but anyway, this was an awesome little game! I really like the visual detail you put into these, as well as the ambience (which I think could've used a solid music track!). The dynamic interactable dialogue was pretty good, the way it lets you move around, and the dialogue itself was on-the-nose and made me laugh. I do enjoy the core loop, and it was pretty satisfying to nail combos that just absolutely destroy rocks, prove cats correct, and teach the undead how to sleep (wow does Ollie hit hard with her charge rifles).
Was a touch glad I could just skip selecting halu for my fourth item LOL, which let me appreciate everyone's ??? artwork. 690 hours is no small feat... Biboo will need to retry fighting Kaela for at least that long to stand a chance of beating her. Please do continue this!
JDON MY SOUL! This Game is Pretty Fun! I would love to see a continuation of this!
Loved this game, had a very solid gameplay loop. I will say the art is probably the weakest part of the game, but what is there does it job well. Love the fact some items have special interaction with characters and that there are animation for them. attack and hit feel nice and keep the gameplay flowing smoothly. Love the dialog written for the characters. Gameplay I think that the timer on choosing attacks and that attacks themselves are randomly places really make this game stand out and heighten the experience. Like that there is a layer of stratagy in how and when you pick your items for battle. I would just change it so that not so many of the items revolve around Biboo.
Overall, a strong, great game!
I enjoyed this game and all of the references!
I think this is something that could easily be expanded upon and as someone has already mentioned adding "synergies" would be a really nice touch.
The slay the spire type of formula works really well here.
The audio/static was a bit grading at times. But overall it is very nice!
Executed really well in every way, and most importantly: it was fun to play! If you do continue working on it, I hope you really go all in on items synergies (such as having items that affect the ones you use after, adding strategy to the order you pick them). My only issue with the game: I didn't like the staticy background noise and would much rather have had a music track playing in the background (maybe a dramatic, crunchy chiptune track?).
This game has Zeta in it and as a result I love it!
On a more serious note, I feel like this game tries something unique and exeecutes it quite well! It can be very hard to execute something new , so doing it in 2 weeks in a way that demonstrates the mechanics clearly is very cool.
This is a game I could see expanded upon and made into something larger! (If you are into it)
The attack animations are a nice touch and really help make the game feel complete and have the flair of a bigger product.
This game is really awesome, I like how it is already have a lot of items in the first place and it have special effects on certain character.
I love everything about this game. The sprites/backdrop/props are well drawn, the humor is top-notch, the story set-up is really creative, the interactions feels natural, and the gameplay feels balanced, this is really well done.
awesome
