  • Hey! I loved watching you make this on stream. The game is definitely beautiful with a cool core mechanic. I would have loved to see just one or who more kinds of interaction, or different enemy designs to round out the experience, as the queue of enemies all behave the same way, with variation only in HP. Maybe some story between groups of enemies to break up the momentum would have been nice as well. I don't have much more to say, as everything that's there is great, I just wanted more of it :) Excited to see this game taken further or more of whatever you work on next. Best of luck!

its a very solid game for a game jam. I like it!

Developer

Thank you!

Really love the art and the feel of the game! It is a bit difficult, but overall this game is very artfully crafted!

Submitted

Really awesome! Big fan of the beheading mechanic lol. I love the atmosphere too.

Developer

Thanks! As soon as I implemented it I knew it HAD to be in the game forever

Submitted

Did you do all of the art yourself? It looks great

Developer

I did all of the characters, animation, effects and programming, my gf did all the environment art

Submitted

Easy to play hard to master, graphic are so nice and blood is so juicy, really nice submission ! Good job ! :D

Developer

Thank you!

The game is pretty short, but I had a great time playing it.
The timing is really short but that makes it more satisfying to get!

The aesthetic is really nice, those rain drops are well done! The visual effects are good as well :D
Adding a screen shake could have added a better feeling on the parry / attacks tho.

Nice game! :D

Developer (1 edit)

Ah man both screen shake and slo-mo were on the list but I just ran out of time. Next Time! I wanted to make it longer/more difficult also but I think I had to balance out people getting stressed by the combat and giving them the ending so they actually felt the reward. I erred on more reward, less length.

Submitted

Despite how simple the combat was it was very fun. Getting the parry timing down was really satisfying.

I think the way you depicted the enemies being sliced apart and the blood effects in combination with the sounds really sold the combat.

I loved the visual aesthetic of it as well.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Great getting positive feedback from creators who's games I thought were great.

Great artstyle and lore for such a short game. Despite relying on parry mechanics, it's really forgiving so it's pretty well balanced. Really really enjoyed it.

Developer

Glad you had a good time! Seems like the parry is quite polarising if its hard or not, but I am glad you didn't get pushed away from the game due to the learning curve

Submitted

Really great game. I have finally made it to the very end. Really amazing atmosphere that reminds good old samurai movies. The gameplay is simple, yet very well handled and works really well. It is not easy to get the hang of that parry, but everytime you hit it, it is truly satisfying. I wish there was more :) And last but not least - that rain! Seriously great job done!

Developer

Thank you! I was specifically aiming for a kurosawa era film in the aesthetic ( with an allowance for the blood effects because it looked cool ) so to see you say EXACTLY what I was aiming for is so rewarding

Excellent Game! Love the Art, Great Job!

Developer

Thank you!

Hey Sonny!

The visuals and feedback when striking an enemy were incredibly well polished! The fact that health is recovered after a parry adds a good level of leniency to a quite difficult move to pull off, and the learning curve is satisfying.

The health bar at the bottom is quite difficult to see without leaning in, having the pips contrast more with the background would help with quickly telling how much health is remaining.

That said, the contrasting monochromatic palette was a great choice and very stylish. Overall excellent work!

Developer(+1)

Hey Gib, I'm glad I managed a win in your game today!

The health bar should probably just be red tbh. I was resistant to it at the start but I think it would make the game feel much better. Glad you enjoyed!

Really cool game. Love the style and game mechanics. I really liked that you could cancel the attack into a parry which made it feel really fluid. One mechanic that could be cool was if they had a different type of flash and they could parry you if you don’t stop in time. Great entry overall!

Developer

That is a good idea. I would like to turn this concept into a 10-15 minute game for itch one day but we will see. Im so glad you figured out the cancel :D one of the best feelings in the game is that Fighting Game feeling of landing a strike, cancelling into a parry and continuing the combo

Submitted

I love the art and the setting! The game mechanics worked well too.  Action games might not be my forte, but I really enjoyed this game. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it out!

Submitted

Great game! At first I really struggled to time the parry but after a few goes it eventually got it enough where felt natural and super satisfying!

Developer(+1)

Good job pushing through the learning curve! Your game was a great experience for me too :)

The environment of the game is really good! The graphics are great, I really like how the greys really contrasts with the red blood, which is really satisfying to see spread everywhere! I also really liked how the corpses piled up on the ground after a while, made it feel like the player was really powerful! The parry timing was also pretty hard to get used to but I was able to make it pretty far after I got used to it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I don't think my parry feels as good as your dash still ;) Good job sticking it out through the learning curve as well

Submitted

It took me a bit of time to get the correct timing to parry but, and I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, even more time to realize I could move. After that though, the game is really satisfying to play!

Developer(+1)

You're not alone! The first person I saw play the game didn't move either, technically you can still win without moving, but it would be a bit boring :D Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Awesome game! I love the aesthetic, I love the sprites, this is the best game I've played so far!

Developer

Thank you for the huge praise! I'm glad you had fun with it

Submitted

Super fun! It was hard enough for me where it was enjoyable to learn and get better great job!

Developer(+1)

I was genuinely struggling with how hard to make it but I'm glad I got the balance right for you!

Submitted

Too hard for me XD can't figure out the timing

Developer(+1)

Ah I'm sorry to hear that. If you wouldn't mind, is the flashing too fast? Or is the timing too tight? The game is designed around punishing an early press but not a late one so I am trying to learn to make the mechanic rewarding over punishing

Submitted(+1)

Well I didn't press the button if there was no flashing so I guess I was too late so I guess the timing is too tigh

Submitted

This was very fun!  Loved the art the the animations,  i was keeping up with your updates on twitter, so it was really nice to play the final product, good job :)

Developer

Thanks for following along! I'm really happy with the visuals too :)
