I loved the core mechanic of the game, playing around with reflecting the beam of light in the mirrors was fun. The level design was well executed, balanced and gave me a real sense of progression and challenge as I played. I really wanted to play some more levels when I finished. The enemies are also well implemented, and I liked how they made me feel a sense of danger in an otherwise relaxing game. It was a little frustrating to go back to the start every time I died. I hope you decide to continue working on this game since its engaging and you could potentially do a lot with it in the future :D.
I thoroughly enjoyed this game and I can really see how these mechanics can be used to create more complex puzzles and levels. I also particularly liked the aspect that sometimes you do have to look at the enemies, causing a temporary sense of danger, in order to get them into the right position to complete the puzzle, such as in the final level.
Perhaps a top-down character avatar may have better suited the game considering the rest of the level was top-down.
I also liked the tutorialization of introducing the player to new aspects of the game over 2 levels, as opposed to presenting them with walls of text explaining the game.
I agree with one of the other comments saying it would be interesting to incorporate other reflective components such as moving mirrors, refractive prisms, light slits, colour changing mirrors etc. and I think these components could be used to create some really interesting puzzles.
Overall I found the game to be enjoyable thanks to the interesting mechanics and puzzle solving.

Thanks! Yeah, in our initial concept we wanted to have moveable blocks and mirrors to make the vision gameplay a little more dynamic.
Also on the respawning and the top-down art... Completely agree :'). This is just the stuff that comes with being a Jam game.
Thanks for the feedback! :D
My poor monkey brain couldn't get past level 4, but I really liked the straighforward puzzle mechanic andddd PLAYING WITH REFLECTED LIGHTTTT!. The music was lovely btw!
I would suggest maybe turning down the speed at which the enemies shmove at???

Really enjoyed the experience! If you ever decide to further develop this game, it would be cool to have some moveable reflective objects, objects which cause refraction(crazy shenanigans :D) or/and split the time ray.
Would love to see this developed further!

Yup! Blocking vision, reflecting and splitting vision, and more diversity with interactable objects. Really keen to work on this more!
Thanks for the feedback
Heyo, I couldnt get past level 4 but I was nonetheless excited to try it a few more times which is a good sign! I especially like how the movement and attracting of enemies works. It gives you room for a lot interesting puzzle layouts and designs and furthermore there is an intuitive tutorialisation process (the actions more than the words that you present) that you're moving the player through. I do think the enemies move too quickly and things feels a bit crowded but if that's what you were going for then good job. If that is the case I think its worth thinking a bit more about what that means for your gameplay cause right now its dynamic is somewhere between being really fast and slow and methodical.
Beyond that I would also say let me retry a level from where I died and make sure your description is more accurate towards the experience you're reeling players in with. Good job!
The main concept of the game was interesting. I liked the puzzles those really challenged me and it was fun to play. The visuals were adorable, I really like them. The level design was executed perfectly, nothing too hard as well as nothing too easy. The difficulty increase was just right.
The only problem I had was the moving mechanics, it was a bit difficult at first but I eventually got the hang of it. I also noticed that the player goes through the wall, but I enjoyed playing the game. Great job! :)

I really like this game and the light mechanic. Your vision alerting the enemies to your position is a good use of the theme for the game jam, and the reflections were a nice touch to the puzzle mechanic. The music fits the game perfectly as well. If I was to give a critic of the game it would be the fact that would be able to restart the level regardless if you died or not.
Other than that, a really cool experience.

I really enjoyed this experience. I believe the art and music really sold the aesthetic. I like the clear communication of what good and bad (even in terms of colour design). As someone who isn't exactly the most adept at mouse and keyboard games I found Tempest to be very accessible and engaging to play :D
I was very impressed with the core mechanic, the reflecting beam of light was a lot of fun to control in the levels. The audio also adds a nice calm touch to the gameplay. The level design was quite exciting to traverse, I was thoroughly surprised at the last level and honestly found myself wanting to keep playing, the potential levels that could be created seems like it could be amazing.
I did find myself clipping through some walls, especially the level end gate at times, I also hoped for a sensitivity slider, just to turn down how fast I seemed to be moving.
But other than that the game is well executed, and has such an enjoyable and expandable core mechanic.
Ooo I remembered you telling us your basic concept, on the first day of the Jam, and it is so amazing to get to see it flourish into a working game. The core mechanic is really interesting to play around with, and those monsters you have implemented are terrifying, but perfectly so! Very interest mechanic with the reflection of the visions as well, you have done an excellent job, and I am really glad you brought this concept to life :)
The core concept is really interesting! I think the visuals are really cute and I enjoyed trying to work through the puzzles. I found the moving mechanics a little difficult because of the fact that the player would go through the walls, but other than that I really enjoyed it! I thought the level design was well executed, and progressed with reasonable difficulty. I think it was a great game, especially given how quickly it was made, so well done!

Love the mechanic!!! Really cool to get a feel of it throughout your play through and brings to mind just how much can be done with it if you were to build on to your game!
I found that failing and restarting took me all the way back to the first room, would love if there was a checkpoint system that took me back to the last room I was in rather than the start.
Otherwise great game and take on the theme :)
Wow, really enjoyed the main mechanic alot, it worked well with the jam's theme. Not complicated but a really engaging idea that works well and was surprisingly fun for how straightforward it is. Great job, I'm sure there's lots more that could be done with this mechanic but your game is a good short taste of it. (Jack Rathbone)
over all the game is cute and the sound design is melow and relaxing, perfect for me with my cup of tea in the morning ;p, I like the mechanic of reflecting light and almost thought you went opposite to the brief until i met the monster, where looking at them draws them closer. That was cool! I did however find a bug as to if you play through the scene without skipping the text it breaks ;(
(CYPHER GROUP -Joshua Groombridge)
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, the text bug is super weird... We knew about it but couldn't fix it in time, I think we'll upload a fixed version once the judging is finished (also I forgot to include an entire level which would be put in.)
Amazing concept, and very interesting levels!
