I really liked certain aspects of the story, and the visuals were fantastic! But I did find the difficulty ramp up really fast at the end, and the piloting was a bit clunky.
Aside from that the game was awesome to play, the effects and lighting top notch!
Really nice presentation, and certainly doesn't look like something that was made in such a short amount of time. However, I found the slow pace and exposition a bit over the top. Although you did a great job with the cutscenes, I'm just not a Kojima fan and tend to start mashing buttons if a cutscene or dialogue is going a bit long, and the forced camera angle was driving me mad, though it did look cool.
I actually enjoyed stomping and destroying the city, but I know I was meant to be protecting it from my mech chums who came to join in with the destruction :D
This looks like something I would bootup for my xbox
Hard to believe this was made in two weeks. Super polished, and I actually really dig the story. That said, I found it very difficult to aim considering the camera angle; the bullets didn't seem to want to travel to where the crosshairs were pointing. I also wish that dying didn't force you to start from the beginning. Overall this was pretty cool! Hopefully it turns into something bigger.
Up front: The story of this game is pretty dark & apocalyptic, which is not my most-loved tone. That said, my initial discomfort was really whisked away by the nuances/twists of the text exposition and voice acting. Although I didn’t like humanity from the start of the game, Jeff and the other pilot - and the evolution of the character I thought I was did suck me into the story.
An interesting “heavy metal” arcade game. The night rain and muzzles flashes were very atmospheric. Wide screen with the mech’s firing ark skew was a bold choice. Overall aiming the weapon was hard but it felt like the right amount of hard. If this game gets really expanded, I’d be interested to see spotting/tracking allies & drones (since you already have the scanner) and the white hit flash taken out. Could be replaced with sparks/fires/other damage fx. Could also develop the background story of why this one automated mech is not with all the others.
My score did not track (with v1.3), so that’s pretty disappointing for an arcade game. Also, it was very challenging to deal with how many enemies came (and how many bullets each could soak up), and keep an eye on all 360 degrees of the city. The big map was very cool, but I didn’t get to use any of it much without long-range weapons.
Overall: Fun tactical action but you quickly get overwhelmed, very well-done dark story and atmosphere.
Excellent ! It iss a really good Mechwarrior Game, you can hit the different part of the ennemy (like arm, upper body, legs) and the reaction is different. I like the post processing effect, and the sound (voice, cinematic/tension music). I just note the count of the ennemy kill stay to 0 for me (i think i destroy 4 or 5 mech before i died and it display 0 at my death). Otherway clearly a masterpiece 5/5.
God this game is beautiful!
The cinematic quality of this thing just blew me away!
This is just too awesome, I wish I could have played more!
Great graphics, love the story!
Only concerns I have is the annoying black letterbox that stays the whole time making it hard to see, and the fact that you always drift left while moving, shift the robot to the center of the screen for usability imo. Animations could use work, otherwise, great game!
The whole thing oozes style! Love the main menu to start off with. Really great little storyline and fun base defense gameplay. The shots feel very impactful and the hit indicators on enemies look great too.
Fantastic work! I hope you'll keep working on it :)
Great Job!!! you have a pro videogame.
Maybe 2 thing: An skip to the log messaging start and
Wne shot, I did not know if damaging the enemy
Overall Congratulations!!
Jesus Christ! This looks and sounds professional.
Do you plan on continuing development after the jam?
Thank you! Planning on polishing a bit, then will see how it goes...
I'll sound like a broken record but the overall look and intro and tone was excellent. I loved hearing all the clips and story telling while roaming around. Would love to be able to play a couple of rounds or waves of enemies if that's ever considered for an update. Super impressive! Loved the UI too!
I'll just get my complaints out of the way: the widescreen with a giant mech taking up half the view is frustrating in terms of actually seeing what's happening, the lens flare from firing compounds the vision issue greatly, and this is the first game in the jam that my antivirus tried to destroy outright instead of just running the game in a sandbox.
Despite all of that, and roughness in animations/etc, this is a demo rivaling what entire companies might put out after months of work. The atmosphere is solid, the shooting actually worked for me once I got use to the weird angle in targeting, and the limb damage on enemy mechs looks like it came straight out of a Mechwarrior title. There's a part of me that simply cannot believe this demo was made within the time limit, and that's a good thing.
Thank you for the feedback! I am fixing some things already, come have a look in a about a month!
Wow, fantastic. Not sure I've played an experience like this in a jam before. Fantastic
Beautiful.
This was cinematic as heck and it felt like I was playing a movie instead of a video game. The opening movie and intro really set the scene and tone. All of the atmospheric touches really added up! From the muted color palette to the occasional lightning strike in the rain. The scale of the environment and movement of the mech tied everything in and made it feel like I was piloting a metal monster.
I would have liked to have done more fighting though. The combat was simple but nice, and I would have liked more than 3 opponents to fight.
Overall, spectacular job here. Y'all should be proud.
Thanks a lot! Cinematic visuals and the story were the main goals here. Had to rush a demo before the deadline though
The environment and motion really helps the scale and makes the mech feel like a proper steel beast. Love the art style, premise and backstory. All around really cool experience and you packed a ton of vibe and polish into this sequence for such a short period.
This was made in two weeks?! The atmosphere, storytelling, art, sound design, everything! Are all top notch.
Thank you, yes, 14 days + 1 day prototyping the mechanics beforehand. Talk about crunching huh
O_o Wow now that's an intro !
I was really hooked into the game's atmosphere, and that terminator style intro text craw with narration :o
The premise and world building are also pretty awesome, and i really like the pace at which the events unfold, the demo is quite short but what's there is top tier.
Congrats to you guys ! and definitively bonus points for the quality voice acting :)
Glad that you could have enjoyed the atmosphere, what was the goal!
