Description
An ambient sound track for a simplistic sandbox game that changes both music and gameplay based on your time. Each track would represent the day, afternoon, and night time. I composed most of the tracks trying to keep it as basic as I know. I used the most generic DAW, FL Studio.

Message from the artist
Howdy! With minimal knowledge of music theory (and a month knowledge of FL Studio) I've enjoyed making this!

Really nice atmospheres in your soundtrack! The night time track (Moonrise) is lovely.

I loved the choice of sounds you made. So on point!

Wonderful work!!!

Amazing work for the time you have been at this. Really liked the OST overall!

Really chill and ambient vibe!

Good job^^

Good job!

The last track reminded me a bit of minecraft.

I think one of the best ways to improve your music is with these jams because it forces you to make new music but it doesn't have to be a jam. Keep writing music it is so fun!

Developer

Yup that's for sure! I luckily found this from tutorial videos about music making so I'm glad I did join to practice!

Hey... an interesting sandbox atmosphere! I liked. The only complaints were already voiced before me, and so - good job!

P.S. Do you have 1 month of experience? Heh... when I had the same experience, I did things much worse...

Well Done!

Developer

Well combined of me using FL studio I do have about a months worth, but I guess I could say I've had the program for 2-3 months! Most of the times I've been recreating songs but these are more original!

There are some quite nice OSTs. I think the other comments have already mentioned the piano's velocity and other details, but my suggestion is to take inspiration from other games, like Minecraft, since the OSTs are for a sandbox game. I hope my feedback helps :3 Anyway, you did a great job! ❤

Actually minecraft was the main inspiration for this! Haha

The ambient idea is interesting, minimal but a good starting point to develop further. I would suggest trying to lower the piano velocity in the first track so that it sounds softer, and pay attention to the reverb tails (not sure if you used CC64 for the sustain, but make sure the reverb of one chord doesn’t overlap with the next). The use of the piano in the last track is interesting, turning it into a sort of synth-drone, but I would have used a bit less reverb, or rather: put the reverb in parallel so you have a clean track that combines with one with a lot of reverb. This way, you’ll hear both the ambient effect you want to achieve and have the sensation that the piano is closer to you. I hope these tips are helpful🙂🤞🏼.

Developer

Ah alright! Thanks for yer tips, I'll for sure use this when I make another song that has reverb!

Congrats on your submission! You're off to a good start! There are some nice relaxing sounds in here. I suggest trying to find ways to make the piano less jarring on the soft piano tracks. A number of things might help: playing with the velocity of the notes, rolling the chords so whole chords aren't played all at once, and looking for dissonant notes. Thanks for making and sharing. Keep it up!

Ooo, thank you for the tips! :]

Hey, for having minimal music theory and FL Studio knowledge, this came out great! I liked "Moonrise" the best, I think it fits its title the best of the three. Very pretty. Good job!

really lovin the repetition on Noon hours.
as an ambient lover, i kinda mildly wish sunrise also went harder on repetition and soundscape instead of melodies, but that's a really personal take.

beautiful sounds on moonrise.

in general it feels a bit underproduced imo, but that's not really that big of a deal, specially on a jam track lmao

really makin me feel like an innocent child who just loves to take care of things that matter to me. really lovely

diggin the minimalistic cover btw

Developer

While unsure if I wanted a melody or not, I eventually decided to have sunrise have a melody so the other three would have a type of motif to go off of! (Even if Moonrise is Sunrise without a melody).  And the cover was supposed to have more of a fade between morning, noon and day but it was late and I had only a few hours left to really do a cover art haha

Hey! For little theory and FL studio knowledge I think this is really great - I really like the way you're going about adding movement and direction with the automation feature. A really good parameter to try playing with using automation would be the "cutoff" on your instrument - I think it may give you a better sound in some spaces rather than using a volume automation. Give it a try if you haven't already! Really nice chords by the way.

Developer

I'll make sure to do just that the next time I make another song!

Keep up the good work! My favorite is noon hour.  I would have loved to see you tackle a track with a bit more upbeat theme, I think you could have pulled it off really well. Overall really ambient and pleasant.

: )

Developer

I'll try and make sure that the next OST Jam, my music will have a upbeat style then! :]

Very nice atmosphere, very particular. Maybe the reverb on Sunrise is a bit heavy and the tracks overall a bit fast for a Sandbox. Noon Hour is really pleasant to listen to though.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for yer feedback! I do agree that the reverb being a bit too much, but such is the way of learning!
