FAREWELL is a 2D precision platformer game that tackles themes of maturation and grief. You play as a young girl enraptured in a strange world with a singular goal.
The Mansion represents the fear that the protagonist feels at the estate where her mother's celebration of life is being held. In an attempt to avoid this fear, she moves on to The Street. The Street represents avoidance: it is slightly faster paced, but still has a lingering sense of dread building. The Lake represents the moments of stillness we feel when looking back on fond times that we cannot get back, and coping with that loss. The Hall represents patterns of self-destruction that we engage in when trying to hold on to the past. And finally, The End represents coming to terms with our present situation and learning to cherish our memories even if they weigh heavy on the heart.
I used Logic Pro to compose, arrange, mix and master this project. I utilized vast reverbs, synths and drum machines in combination with strings and soft pianos in an attempt to shape a deeply emotional texture. I was inspired by simple, innocent melodies, and tried to explore the information hidden in them throughout the tracks. All tracks loop and have transitional fade tracks associated with them (any track titled "The ___" is a main track, while others are transitional).
Thanks for listening <3
Message from the artist
This jam really brought me out of my comfort zone and had me make more music than I have in months. For that I am so incredibly grateful :))
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I was mostly inspired by the phrase “inside my world”. I wanted to portray the deeply personal process of working through a permanent loss by using the player character and her imagined experiences to express real feelings. While nothing is really happening, these feelings are larger than life inside her world. The image also helped to inspire my compositions by sparking the idea of including a mother-daughter relationship.

It's a really interesting interpretation to take the theme to go down a psychological route - you've absolutely pulled it off! The sound design is fabulous, loads of reversed sounds and weird new timbres coming in suddenly. Really impressive, congrats!
Thank you so much! I'm glad that it reads so well :))
Nice job with the OST. Everything felt glued together properly and amazing amount of quality work done in just a week.
Thanks so much! I gotta listen to yours too before the jam is over :D
Very beautiful, atmospheric OST. The music is great, and the descriptions with the videos/tracks elevates it to a new level. I could fully imagine what the game would look and sound like, you really did a good job with both the writing and the composing. Thank you for sharing!
P.S For the youtube playlist, the tracks were in opposite order for me, so I had to manually click on the tracks in order to listen to them in the correct order.
Thanks so so much for all of the kind and thoughtful words! I gotta take a look at the playlist, I really appreciate you bringing it to my attention :))
This is definitely one of the most soulful cover art of this jam...
Is The Mansion a preparation for something? It doesn't matter! Because it sounds cool!(I do not know why, but I imagined a platformer where a girl jumps through chandeliers in a large corridor)
The Street is the time for something graceful...
The Lake is Good... The effects and sound styles make it feel like I'm really drowning, while a lone pianist decided to play next to me. Heh)
The Hell - GOD, I LOVE THAT VOICE. There is a sense of confrontation, danger and... something in this track that I can't even describe. Oh, that's right! Magic...
The End - Someone broke all the dishes... And then there's the heartbeat... The only way I want to describe this composition is that it is... positive?
You've made a great soundtrack! It's great when all the tracks are perfectly connected. It makes it feel like it's the soundtrack to a real game! By the way... will you make a game?)
P.S. You have a very interesting idea using "THE", heh)
I would love to make a game! Thank you for the thoughtful breakdown of your thoughts track by track. I especially appreciate what you said about The Lake because that was exactly the vibe I was going for!
You do a great job perpetuating that sense of unease and creepiness throughout each of your tracks… this is awesome!
Thanks sm! :))
Great interpretation of the theme here! And I can easily imagine the game as you described, it would go really well in a precision platformer! The Street was my favorite from the OST, with The Hall a close second favorite. great work!
Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback!
I feel like it was really dark and heavy for the image theme, but it was an interesting experience.
Thanks for the feedback 😎
The Mansion: There is a mixture of sweet textures from the rising arpeggios directly contrasted with the haunting high piano descending line that seems to be hitting many non-diatonic notes. The percussion is a nice touch to drive the track forward to make it feel game-like. The emotion of grief and loss is palpable in this track as there really isn’t a resolution throughout.
The Street: I know those reverb-y choirs well! Logic presets are really great in my opinion! The snare fills give this track a march-like quality giving me the image of the protagonist trudging away from the conflict. Ooh I really like the reversed crescendoing choirs!
The Lake: The piano in this track is so reflective because you give lots of space to allow the listener’s mind to wander. Then it builds into the really cool section with the reversed piano hits.
The Hall: Wow the transition into The Hall is probably my favorite moment in your soundtrack! Those drums hit hard and really make an impact on the emotions conveyed.
The End: The kick heart beat with the solo piano brings back the hauntingly sweet sentiment from the first track. The chords you use seem to go back and forth between the two conflicting emotions which gives this track a cinematic quality.
Overall: You have found your sound in this soundtrack and you executed the themes of grief so well in your music. From the rating categories, I think it’s worth noting that you certainly left an impression on me as a listener and if I could rate this a 6, I certainly would. Great work and thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for the incredibly detailed response! Your kind and thoughtful words mean so much 🫶
Smooth transitions! Having a compilation video helps notice the amazing cohesiveness of the tracks. I loved when the synths kicked in on The Street, and The Hall's drums were epic. Nice storyline and interpretation of the theme as well! The End is a great chill closure track as well!
Thanks so much for the kind words! The Hall's drums are a broken up dubstep fill & I'm glad that the contrast reads :))
The way each track flows into the next without sounding strange is really neat!
ty!
so mystic..
ty :))
I like the transitions you made between songs to create a more cohesive album. I'm a fan of the process of grief as the main theme and I think your music expressed that very beautifully. The Street is probably my favorite of the five. Great job!
Aw I'm so glad it resonated, thank you so much :')
Wonderful work! Very emotional music, and a great mix of instruments/sounds. I really loved the way the tracks connected with each other.
Aw thanks so much it's incredibly appreciated!
Absolutely beautiful! I am not good with words, but the best I can say is that the music mixes mystery, relaxation, and energy all at once. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Lol
LOL don't worry, I completely understand and appreciate it so much. Thank you!
nice work! i love the fusion of genres throughout this whole soundtrack and your approach to harmony is really unique. this is a great listen :)
Omg thanks so much for the kind words :'-) 🫶
Oh this is absolutely drenched in moodiness, I dig it. The Mansion kept me guessing as to where it was going - I was never quite sure what to feel, and that ambiguousness was perfect. Takes more of a standard approach in the second track, where I found the lead to be surprising but ultimately fitting. Good choice of voicing for it, and the background ambience that persists throughout is wonderfully sodden with mystique.
I think of the bunch, The Lake is my favorite - gorgeous progression and articulation. Honorary shout-out to The End for revisiting these themes, too. Can't beat a great piano line to really set the stage and get lost in in. Great work, this is one of the more thought-out submissions I've heard. Best of luck! :)
Thanks so much for the kind and in-depth articulation of your thoughts, it is so incredibly appreciated :))
I like the "genre intrusions": the slow fade in and out of EDM, classical and "metal" elements. And the ending harmony is moving. Thumbs up!
Much appreciated!
As soon as the beat came in on The Mansion I knew I was gonna like this soundtrack. Thank you for the amazing music!
Awe thank you so much!
Love the variations you have in each track! You have a very unique sound selection in many of them, really stands out when you accompany it when heavier ambiences. Can definitely feel the darker undertones in the arrangements, especially the beginning ones. The End is a nice contrast from the rest that feels like actual closure for the young girl, really fits the themes you presented.
Nice work!
Thanks so much, I'm really glad the vibes are reading so well in The End. I also appreciate your compliment regarding unique sound selection as that is something I really strive for. Much love!
Love the little melancholic vibes though all the OST. The End is my favorite, pretty chill and good ambient
Thank you so much, that's my personal fav as well :))
