I made it to level 6 and then it just crashed. It was fun, but controls are too floaty making the platforming a bit hard and the long delay when switching characters made me often wonder if it was working at all.
There is also a few collision bugs with the ceilings, in which sometimes I could just jump through the ceiling, bypassing parts of the levels. Also the music was a bit annoying, as the whole game used that same short loop of music for every level and the selection screen.
That's all I can think of. Wish you luck!
Honestly it's pretty barebones right now. It doesn't feel bad or anything, but it needs more stages, enemies and tower types in order to truly be interesting. You could consider also limiting the tower placement options(have some mountains or something where you can't put towers) or make then more expensive, because you can basically put hundreds of towers in the map currently. Good luck!
The big city can be a very harsh place to a 50 IQ beaver with lots of money, the game is balanced in a way you basically have to kept money at low, but not too low to the point you can't sleep and eat. It's a little cruel, but this is supposed to be one of these near impossible to win games where the fun is replayability and seeing how far you can go. Really curious about that bug though, I will be making tests to try find what caused it. Thanks for playing!
Interesting game. A few criticism I have:
The dialogue text box should be more stylized to fit better the artstyle of the game, right now it looks too generic.
I think you should probably let the player take the nursery rhymes to the inventory so they can open it again without having to return to the same place.
The voice acting feels off, like something heavily autotuned, its distracting. I realize good voice acting can be extremely difficult to pull off though.
Also the highlight effect in the cursor when you are over an interactive object is too subtle and there are too many objects that you can't interact with.
With all that said, I believe the game has potential, I like the artstyle and overall feel of the game. Good luck!
I think the game is really polished visually and the audio is great too. I am suspect to talk about the gameplay because I am not a big fan of these kind of puzzle games, but the game gets quite difficult really fast and the amount of trial and error necessary to complete each level made it quite frustrating.
Thanks for playing! Maybe in a next update I'll add a proper window for stats to help keeping up with things. Currently, most actions have different outcomes depending on RNG, the game was designed around trial and error and I wanted it to be very hard to survive; just like the beaver who is completely clueless about the big city, I wanted for the player to feel clueless about the mechanics and outcomes of things, but most of the events always tell you when stats raise or fall and unless you are really unlucky there are certain patterns.
Skill points still need to be integrated better, but they will reduce the amount of luck needed to get the "good" outcomes of the events that require err, skills, and they can't fall to 0 or else the beavers brain activity stops completely!
Seems like it could be a good relaxing game, but I agree with the poster below, the game needs urgently an introduction and better UI to let the player understand better what's happening. Also even if its not your objective to add music, click/confirmation sounds for the UI would help navigation as sometimes I don't know if the buttons are actually working. Good luck!
The UI needs some work, button placement is a bit weird, the drive/start buttons should be positioned at center or bottom instead of the top, same for the next page buttons of the help pages. Controlling the car via keyboard would be a good addition too. Other than that, the gameplay feels a bit too hard, with cars breaking apart too easily.
I believe it has potential, the idea of making the enemies easier but more plentiful and also have the game not take too long to get crazy with more bricks and stuff flooding the screen would be interesting to consider. I also noticed some of the ranged enemies kinda get stuck outside of the screen where its hard to deal with then.
The idea was interesting, but for now the grid placement doesn't really add much, as of now you can rotate the pieces and use the same solution again and again. Maybe make the pieces be actually random each turn or take away the ability to rotate then, I don't know. Also the UI and graphics needs a lot of work, I agree with the other users saying it wasn't very intuitive. But overall the game looks promising, good luck!
if you still have time: https://itch.io/jam/ost-composing-jam-7/rate/2843961
It depends, when I have more time and freedom I like to experiment with different instruments first and create the idea behind the music as I experiment, as long as it doesn't stray too far from the theme requested. But when there isn't much time or the request is more specific, I already plan what tone and instruments I will use beforehand, trying to streamline the process so I have more time to focus on the arrangement. For this jam, I did a mix of both.
I'd love some feedback: https://itch.io/jam/ost-composing-jam-7/rate/2843961
