Description
Marsh Droid is a (mythical) game about an android who wakes up in a marsh. They weave through reeds and water attempting to remember who they are, but find themselves quickly taken in by nature, becoming the marsh's stalwart protector. The game would have the player in the role of the Marsh Android, collecting memory fragments and fighting would-be marsh harmers (such as other, scarier, androids.)

The soundtrack was inspired by lofi, and electronic music, noise music and the calls of animals I've recorded over the last year. The soundtrack was made in Ableton Live 12! With field recording from a Tascam DR5. I wanted also to make something quite sound-designed as there is a lot of character to be conveyed (and fun to be had) approaching music like a sound design project. Obviously for a full game I'd maybe dial back the animal field recording motifs!

As per the game idea, the soundtrack maybe represents the fusion of nature and slightly broken digital technology, as the android's circuitry is changed overtime by various mosses and mushrooms interweaving and creating new points of contact.

Track 1 is a sort of main theme, a big sweepy synth pad to add some organicism and softness against an initially menacing melody. But the 'ice synth' melody softens the feel and represents the android discovering their new tranquil identity as a marsh protector. Reversed orchestral clips are supposed to represent memories 'playing back.' The outro to cassette static and abrupt stop combining with (real original!) cricket and frog samples show an ear listening out for danger.

Track 2 is a kind of exploration suite, opening with the frogs again. There is intended to be a structured, uplifting kind of tranquillity as the Marsh Droid assists animals and what not and finds positive, happy memories.
The track moves to a (lowpassed!) melancholy, sombre feeling, attempting to convey more painful, or sad memories the android discovers. It finishes on a hopeful note again, as the android resolves inner memories and looks once again outward, and the high frequencies come back in to the mix.

Track 3 is a sort of combat suite. Plenty of bits to chop up and loop to suite various encounters with nasty marsh-destroying androids. Continuing to fuse organic and kind of broken digital bits, there are 'vocally' sounding pads, more animal samples, and a more menacing motif from the main theme. I also thought a big, sludgy bass could sound some kind of digitally-corrupted evil toad or something. The track ends on a stutter which could maybe represent a 'game over' or life loss mechanic.

How does it fit the theme?
The Marsh Droid's memories are reflective of 'their world' and the soundtrack attempts to convey a first-person narrative. 'Inside my world' to the Marsh Droid is an exploration of memories as they find them, but also the corporeal, organic, swampy world they've come to protect.

I'm sorry  for the strange question, but... Where did you get the photo of the plant from the cover art? (If it's a photo at all)

Submerged Circuitry - And, damn, from the very first track from your soundtrack, you feel incredibly curious experimentation, which, despite the "broken" sounds, still sounds melodic and atmospheric! I love these effects that "interrupt" the melody for a short time, heh)

Data Mire is a creepy ambient of nature. This is one of the few tracks of this jam that made me really uncomfortable and creepy.

The Droid March is a terrible battle...

I made the album artwork from the attached picture. My partner often takes pictures of plantlife for work, and I like to mess about with them and make retro sort of art from them.

I was absolutely blownn away with this, the seamless blend of Lofi and Ambient elements, with the more experimental nature of all of it just hits so incredibly hard for me. This is a really neat type of lofi with the nature and robotic sound meshing. it created a cool vibe and I liked it!

I adore the vibes in this - it's pristine. As others have mentioned, your interpretation of the theme is really cool. All of these tracks are pretty sick; tight execution on production and remaining cohesive with the arranging and choice of voicings and instrumentation. I was half-expecting some botanica when I saw the thumbnail and I have to say that I'm coming away more than pleasantly surprised.

Great ambient pieces. I like how they sit firmly in ambiguity - a difficult balance to strike but you've made it work. The only word I can think of to describe how I'm feeling when I listen to them is 'pensive'. Production is on point as I mentioned earlier, and the arrangements themselves are really well done. Made for a very unique yet enjoyable entry, kudos!

I love the concept of nature fusing with technology and this soundtrack definitely reflects what you were going for! It’s grimy, melancholy, and eerily soothing (at least to me lol).  Fantastic work!

The marsh imagery reminded me a bit of the hiiammarymary ARG haha! The lo-fi and percussion work here is on point. I like the subtle noise/vinyl scratches in the background.

really good vibe going on here. could easily imaging venturing a large mosh, admiring the environment around me. i think the second track slightly drags on but it's still enjoyable.

Thanks for the kind words:) fair criticism on the second track. In my head it's like an exploration suite to show the different feels for the game, but maybe not so appropriate for general listening. I wasn't sure if i was allowed to seperate a track into bigger parts. Next time I'll maybe just shorten it and then include an 'extended' mix later!
