Description
Game Summary: “Luna - inside my world”
Artwork by: MORNCOLOUR (ig: @mornclor)
All tracks are composed on Cubase 11 and sketched on Musescore 4. I used various libraries from Orchestral Tools, Spitfire, Eastwest, and others, plus sound design from synthesizers, mainly with Arturia Pigments.
Plot:
- Premise:
Luna is a young girl who, after the recent loss of her beloved grandfather, shuts herself off from the world. One evening, exhausted from grief, she falls asleep at the foot of an ancient tree in the pine forest in front of her house.
- Development:
Luna wakes up in "Thalassia," an enchanted underwater world populated by marvelous creatures, hidden cities, and soap bubble-shaped balloons. This extraordinary place seems to be fueled by dreams and positive emotions.
However, the beauty of Thalassia is threatened by a growing darkness, representing Luna's melancholy and sorrow over her grandfather's death. As she explores this enchanted world, Luna realizes that her negative emotions are corrupting Thalassia, turning into malevolent creatures.
- Conclusion:
With the help of Thalassia's inhabitants, Luna embarks on an inner journey to face and overcome her fears. In the end, she fights and defeats an evil being that embodies her sorrow, thereby saving Thalassia from darkness and finding inner peace.
- Epilogue:
Luna wakes up in the real world, at the foot of the tree, feeling stronger and more serene. She has regained stability and joy in life, ready to face the future with new awareness, having overcome her grief and saved an enchanted world in the process.
Gameplay:
"Luna's Dream" is an adventure RPG where players explore Thalassia, solve puzzles, and interact with inhabitants to uncover secrets. At first, the atmosphere is quiet, but as Luna progresses, she discovers that parts of the city coincide with her unexplored subconscious. This subconscious creates obstacles, insecurities, and fears, translating into puzzles to solve and bosses to defeat.
Players can gather resources and craft items to enhance Luna's abilities and overcome challenges. Each boss represents a manifestation of Luna's negative emotions, and by defeating them, she gains new skills and powers. Defeating the final boss allows Luna to save Thalassia and find the strength in her real life to start living again.
Short Soundtrack Summary:
- M1 - “Main Theme” is designed as the game's intro music.
- M2 - “Echoes of Silence” is the music that plays immediately after the grandfather's death.
- M3 - “Gates of Thalassia” describes the entrance to the city, with the background choir chanting a Latin phrase “Portar Thelassia apertae sunt.”
- M4 - “Whispers of Thalassia” is exploration music within one of the underwater dungeons in the game.
- M5 - “Final Boss” is the music that accompanies the final battle against the last boss.
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
1. The "Main Theme" is designed as the start music for the game. It serves as a sort of overture for the entire game development: the initial sound cell is minimal; a solo cello describes Luna's sad mood; the pizzicato strings represent the enchanted world she will discover, and the aleatoric strings depict the confusion in her mind due to her grandfather's loss.
2. "Echoes of Silence" serves as the soundtrack for the moments immediately following her grandfather's death. The bassoon theme and drone textures symbolize Luna's devastated soul and are intended for an animated scene where she recalls moments spent with her grandfather. Subsequently, the aleatoric strings develop the same musical motif present at the end of the main theme.
3. "Gates of Thalassia" is music written for an in-game animation: the moment Luna passes through the gates of the enchanted city, and a grand choir announces in Latin: "Portae Thalassia apertae sunt." The strings then develop the harmony of the choir. Elements from the main theme, such as the kannel arpeggio in the background and the textured voices, are always incorporated.
4. "Whispers of Thalassia," on the other hand, is a level music piece. As such, it seeks to be non-intrusive and to relax the player while wandering in the marine world, trying to solve puzzles, explore, or find various materials for crafting items.
5. The final music is dedicated to the final boss. Epic in nature (inspired by Elden Ring and the Souls series in general), it becomes darker yet simultaneously melancholic and heroic. I aimed to convey the various emotions of the game, adding the grandeur of the endeavor to save the world.

I just want to start this off by saying this was both very well orchestrated, and also that it sounds like it came from someone who has experience writing for games. I feel like a weakness that many composers have when writing for games is they'll try too hard to insert their own creativity for the sake of highlighting their own skills, instead of using their talents to highlight the game, and your music succeeds in doing just that! A good combination of good composing with practicality. I can definitely imagine this being in an actual game. Wonderfully done!
thank you very much, maybe to have experience in video games, I would love it but for now I'm still at my first game jam. 😂😁 but your compliments made me very happy!
All your tracks are great submissions and they work really well together as a cohesive soundtrack, but the one that stood out to me the most was M1. I love how you created an orchestral soundtrack but also added some weird sounds, it makes your compositions sound distinct, and they add to the imagination. Very well done!
Your work is incredible! I'm listening to the track right now and I love the instruments you use and the harmony too, it's like I'm floating in your world ! It's a follow for me !
Hey, I’m not used to receiving all these compliments… thank you so much 🫠🙏🏻 I saw that you follow me on SoundCloud, I immediately followed you back, and good luck with the contest!
Thanks you too !!
I absolutely loved this soundtrack! From the sudden shift in tone near the end of the main theme, and many other songs(which nearly gave me a heart attack, by the way) to the composition to the overall slow, somber mood of the tracks, as well as the almost godlike sound of the Thalassia area, this is one of my favorite tracks so far! Amazing work!
Thank you so much for the compliments, I truly appreciate them 🙏🏻
(And sorry for the heart attacks, it wasn't my intention hahaha)
Incredible work, I opened this up and left it playing while checking something and genuinely forgot this was an entry to the jam and not some soundtrack I'd left playing.
Off the bat, great orchestration and tasteful arrangements. Each element sits so well in the mix and there's a lot of instances of space left between notes to really allow composition to breathe - something I think is missing from a lot of entries, my own included. A lot to be said when it comes to less is more.
I really like how you've managed to instil such eerie and anxious aspects into some of these; Echoes of Silence is a prime example of this with the shift in string articulations and the ominous droning. This does carry over into Gates of Thalassia which gives me a little bit more of an epic unknown kind of vibe at the beginning. Choice of orchestration throughout this one in particular is gorgeous; soft but meaningful. Progressive but still caught in the moment.
All in all this is a fantastic mix of tracks, all of which could easily fit into a video game without question. Really good job, you've got the chops for underscore for sure. Could see this going deep in the rankings!
Thank you so much for the compliments! Many people hear the tracks, but it’s clear that you really listened to them, and I truly appreciate what you said. This is my first Jam, and I didn’t expect to receive these compliments so soon… I think the best thing you said is about the “less is more” approach because I aimed for that effect, and I’m glad it comes through. Thanks again so much 🥹
Happy to hear that it resonated with you, and I hope that more folk come along and give it a proper listen. For a first-time Jam entry this is fantastic, the effort you put into these is evident in the end product. Looking forward to see what you come up with in the future! Best of luck. :)
Very atmospheric and immersive I would say. When second track started I thought it is Journey OST, because of that motif.
Overall very good!
Thank you!!
I'm definitely influenced by the music from Journey because I love Austin Wintory, but at the same time I hope I have diversified the theme of the second track enough because I don't want it to be too similar to the Journey OST. 😬
Nah, that's fine, you diversified the theme enough. In case of what you can just say that it is like a reference to Journey, which is fine.
Wow I was definitely into the game, really love the vibe you got. Love Gates of Thelassia and the fact that the choir sings the latin words.. soo great!! Congrats
Thank you for everything, including the follow on SoundCloud😊
Some stunning orchestration throughout the soundtrack. I love how you move quickly from beautiful motifs to jarring dissonance - it’s exceptionally well arranged! Fantastic work!!
Thank you, I appreciate it a lot!
Great work on the striiiings! All tracks were great, but Final Boss... I read your description on the track and wow, it's so on-point! Melancholic and heroic, a mixture of emotions, your goal is really achieved! Good job with this entry!
Thank u Man🙏🏻
I really enjoyed this entree. It was giving me hollow knight vibes I love! Great Job!
This comment, made by the winner of the latest contest, means a lot to me!
This is fantastic, every single song is incredible to listen to! I was hooked from the start, I love the main theme. It's so well structured and orchestrated, you definitely succeeded in describing the whole game's story musically.
I also love the final track, very Elden Ring-esque as you said (is that a Starscourge Radahn reference in the melody?).
Thanks a lot, really!
Regarding the last song: no, I hadn't thought about Radahn, more about Malena's Theme. However I'll listen the Radhan theme, 'cause I don't remember it right now🙂
God this was good! So much variety too I'm extremely impressed! The Main theme is a real highlight for me, that transition between stable soft sound to darkness was amazing!
One of the highlights of my day for sure!
Thank you so much, you really flatter me!!
Currently on my TOP 5 of the day <3
Thank u man, it's mean a lot for me🙏🏻
Really polished, beautiful OST, it was a joy to listen to! The way you bring together all of the instruments and sounds is very comfortable to the ears. My favorite was 'Gates of Thelassia', it just sounds magnificent! Great job!
Thank you Man!!🙏🏻
I'll listen to yours later too
Whispers of Thalassia was my favorite track with its fantastical and whimsical sound, but each track had its own character and meaning to the story. I thought you did a great job with the orchestration and composition which each movement creating interest. Great submission!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you appreciated it🙏🏻
Each track tells an emotional story. Great use of buildups. Thanks for the amazing experience.
thank you so much for your precious opinions🙏🏻
Immediately, I was blown away by just how you used each instrument. I'm curious as to what specific instruments you used for this! I can imagine that this took a lot of work just to achieve this kind of sound. Everything really brings out its immersive charm~
Thank you so much for the compliments, they are much appreciated!
In the main theme i used a cello solo as main instrument (replaced later by a bassoon) and to create the textural sound i used a Kannel (estonian instrument similar to a harp) for the arpeggios and a guitar. The other particular sounds are made using strings in an aleatoric way, mixed up sometimes with choir and sometimes with some granular and noisy synth patch that i designed on arturia pigments☺️
This is absolutely incredible. THIS is the level of music composition, realism and production quality I strive for. How this doesn't have 600 ratings already is beyond me!
PHENOMENAL work! Really reminds me of Hollow Knight in certain spots of the Main Theme and in Whispers of Thalassia.
hey, thank you so much, what a nice compliment you gave me (I love hollow knight and it's an honor to be associated with that type of sound world).
Later i’ll listen your submission and i’ll gladly leave you my opinion🙂
Outstanding leitmotif and use of aleatoric string textures. Delicately composed instrumental textures. I can imagine the soundtrack be performed by a real ensemble in a concert and still sounding balanced and beautiful. Excellent works!
Thanks tony, coming from you it's a compliment that is really worth a lot!🙏🏻
I really liked the intro theme, especially the guitar/ mandolin, it blends beautifully with the artwork you made, really establishing the world and setting the scene. Gates of Thelassia is wonderfully powerful, I really like the dark choir sound in there as well. You could easily convince me the final boss theme was from Elden Ring, very nice orchestration there, well done!
Thank u so much, i really appreciate it!!🙏🏻
In the intro i use a Kannel, an instrument similar to a harp (from Salu library by orchestral tools, that’s really nice).
Certainly the best appreciation is for the comparison with Elden Ring (from which I admit I was inspired), you made me happy 😉
Last note, this beautiful artwork was created by Morncolour.
