Hack & Climb's itch.io pageJudge feedback
Judge feedback is anonymous.
- The theme is very fun and simple, music on point with the atmosphere as well as the art. You have implemented interesting game mechanics with different type of platforms. You could improve the difficulty by implementing more mechanics and different environments. Also, it was a bit difficult to notice the menu and restart bottoms and leaderboard or a measurement of how far you had claimed would be cool to see. Keep going I would love to see more of it.

Yes
Summarise your game!
“Hack & Climb'' is a precision platformer where you play as a double-sided axe, throwing yourself from surface to surface to reach the top. Carve a path upward, or fall trying.
Please explain how your game fits the theme:
You ARE an axe (or maybe a knife and a spear if you unlock them)
Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Be patient and have fun :P

I played a couple of interpretation of this same idea, but yours feels like one of the most polished and simple one of the bunch, especially on the visuals side. I especially like how different surface types and its affect the level design.
Well done!
A lot of us seem to have gone the Foddian game route xD! In this case both of ours were more "jump king"-like! Yours is ofcourse a lot more physics based :] which I think is a lot more difficult to handle (no pun intended)!
Great work on getting this finished, with the guideline and the green indicator for a hit that lands successfully, it really helped x]!
Keep up the good work amigo! <3
Thanks! Just checked out yours and really liked it, is funny seeing to many similar with slightly different designs.
No need :]! And thx!!! Honestly same, it's surprising just how many there are xD!
I think this is my favourite physics platformer this jam
I really really like it! The art is beautiful and the effect after we hit the dirt or wall is satisfying. Overall a very solid and well polished game \(^-^)/
I'm pretty bad at these kinda games. Showing the trajectory was a big help, but I'm still bad lol.
Cool game, I really like lighting going on with the axe. It's a really nice bit of polish. Nice job!
This game is so good!! For some reason it didn't run well for me in google, but worked solidly on Bing 👍 I love that you have to hit on the axe head to stick, and the green highlighted preview when it's going to connect feels like a nice safety blanket in-between the larger jumps. Super fun!! Great job!
I agree, great job! The movement and impacts feel very satisfying. I could have used a short explanation that dragging the axe at different points changes the rotation!
Great game! Really like your representation of the theme here. I had a lot of fun! Smooth gameplay, very good sound design and everything is really polished! The artstyle is very cool aswell. Congratulations guys!
This game has some great design, showing the trajectory of the axe is really cool, it's clear what the axe can stick to and what it can't and it feels really satisfying to chain multiple jumps together. Amazing work :)
This game is a lot of fun. I always felt the urge to keep on trying after taking a fall. I really like the prediction of how the axe will spin, it makes the game feel way more doable. I think you saw me take a huge fall down from level 2, but I will get back to the top and beat this game eventually! Great work!!
i love the after effects from throwing and showing where to go! well done :DD
I really liked the whole visual aesthetic of the game along with the platforming. The two really blend well together to add to the experience. There's a good mix of focused and precise platforming along with leaps of faith the really make this style of platforming game that I like. Great job!
The core mechanic is so good. It feels really substantial to move and when it stick or not seems fair. The predicting hinting is the icing on the cake that makes this really solid game play! The straight forward graphics are flawless basically. Congrats on the game!
Yo, this is so polished. The axe is chunky and visceral. Fresh take on the rage game genre.
And lowkey, it's actually fun too. (How did you pull off the predictive spin??)
We might have a gamejam winner, right here.
Thanks! Glad you like it, we put a lot of focus on the feeling of the axe to make it satisfying. Happy it paid off
For the predictive spin I used the technique on this tutorial, pretty straightforward, just careful with performance
Love the throw indication! makes this much more pleasant to play along with the nice visuals and music.
It is so crazy how COOL THIS GAME IS! it feel so smooth and rewarding to climb. From the feedback of hitting literally anything to the art, everything is so so pleasing and polished.
Excellent execution on this clever take on the climbing genre. There has been a lot of platformer sumbmission but this is my favorite one so far! The frustration keep making you try again
I absolutely LOVE it! This is so polished and fun to play, it is so inspiring. The effects are wicked, cant get over how cool it is when you drop on the steel blocks!!
Thanks! Love to hear that you liked it. As the concept was kind of simple we really wanted to polish the feel
Wow this is by far the coolest game I've played so far. Really solid concept, executed amazingly. Very polished. The art looks good. Sound is great. No complaints!
Thanks! It is a simple concept but we are glad we where able to deliver
definitely checking out your other games!
