Well done, charming, and meta in all the good ways. Both genres definitely scream “modern nostalgic millennial sensibilities” to me, personally.
Disc 1 was a delightful and fun platformer and I really liked the twist at the end leading to Disc 2. Very impressive!
This is one of my favorites! You lured me in. I was totally down for a cozy grandpa helping platformer but i did not expect that twist! CHILLS!!!
This really goes above and beyond. It's a charming 3D platformer on its own (though a bit buggy; I had to restart the first level because a fry container wasn't spawning, which happened after checking the creepy "glitch tree" a few times), but the second part really elevates it and is expertly implemented. Just a fantastic idea all around with both funny and genuinely unsettling moments.
Wow wow wow! Not only was the plaforming sections fun but part 2 took this game to a whole other level. Truly excellent writing and world building. One of the most memorable games for me. Well done!
Amazing! This was a really fun game, but you went above and beyond with the presentation and themes. Exquisite.
Oh BOY am I craving some blunkberry milkshakes. Definitely won't be going to B**k B**k. I hear you need some hard to get pretzels just to feel better!
This game caught me by surprise. Great job to everyone! Really enjoyed the use of the audio in this one too.
I loved the level design and the Disk 2 twist!
The product shilling was hilarious!
Thank you! - Limey
Loved both parts of this and how well they fit together. The grandpa scenes were laugh out loud funny and really fit the concept of selling the game. The music was great - really period-appropriate - and so was the voice acting.
Thank you! Glad you had fun! - Limey
Well done everyone involved! Such a cool idea that came together wonderfully! So many folks doing Great Work!
Two distinct vibes, both really well executed. Particularly enjoyed the Disk 2 foreshadowing in Disk 1. Great job on this!
Thank you! I'm really happy you spotted the foreshadowing! - Limey
These are the kinds of ideas I find so exciting about game jams, and executed awesomely. A really great take on what feels like an easy good time going for the 90s platformer, but clever and interesting on top of that in a way that really got me. Super great work!
You already had me with the N64 style platformer, but then you went above and beyond!
a really really cool game and overall idea. the overall plot is good and well implemented. but even without that it would be a cool fun 3d platformer with interesting levels
This is a really cool and creative submission that perfectly hearkens back to N64 platformers. Anyone who didn't catch Kyle streaming it should absolutely watch that or try the game out for themself, it's really ambitious and surprising. Great job team, games like this make the Robot Part game jam exciting and fresh every year.
Awesome N64 aesthetic, looks legit. The idea of separating it onto two discs (cartridges?) was really cool. I liked the character redesigns and lore.
This probably going to be the most unique game of the jam, I loved the N64 vibes but struggled a bit with the controls, mostly with the skateboarding momentum and especially in the bossfight, though I eventually got through it and had a really good time.
-Spoilers-
Other than that I feel like maybe the players shouldn't be able to walk through the white walls at the end of disk 1, at first I thought that was intentional and kept falling for a few minutes waiting for something to happen lol.
lol I didn't realise you could walk through the white walls. woops.
For accessibility I just patched the boss hurt animation to be less flashing lights and have a shorter duration.
Well, that was an interesting game to start my playing time on. I do think it's tuned a bit difficult though, particularly because the jump (intentionally?) doesn't feel great--I might not have finished the boss if there wasn't a convenient (presumably unintentional) piece of collision on the front of Pitmaster's face to stand on, since I could rarely get off a jump on the highest burger before it started falling (and then the jump didn't want to work right when you're falling).
SPOILERS:
It's very ambitious to essentially make two games (in two different engines to boot), even if Disc 2 is relatively simple. I do worry that the adherence to the N64 aesthetic in Disc 1 was hurting it though--I understand things like uninverting the camera and subtitles (especially for "unintended" elements) weren't commonplace, but I would have had no clue what the password was if I was coming at this from a "fresh eye" because it was so blurry, and even then I was worried about the capitalization (though hopefully you accounted for that, or even just let anything in)
YokaiBlotch here: Thanks for playing and taking the time to write feedback! Also, really appreciate the spoiler warning. We finished close to the deadline and didn't have time for external playtesting unfortunately. I think some mechanics that worked in the Unity editor didn't work as smoothly in the downloadable version (for ex. sometimes the player gets stuck on the terrain). However, Subterranean Loser, has been working hard to fix as much of the issues and bugs as they can. Specifically, in the latest version v3,
SPOILERS:
they added more delay before disk 1 closes and made the password note bigger + higher resolution. They also toned down the flashing red when the boss is hit cause that was an accessibility issue (Shoutout to wujak for finding that!)
For things we might not be able to fix:
I think the jump is still a bit bugged cause it doesn't trigger while walking sometimes. For the boss fight, I struggled with it too. I agree, the invisible platform under his eyes is clutch! It's the reason why I was able to beat him quickly in the latest version when I didn't get enough height. Unfortunately, not sure if they have time to tweak it. They've worked really hard (not just in programming) and have been fixing most of the issues we've found. Thanks for your help and patience!
Note: If you'd like to try again with the new version, you need to select "Erase save data" from the title screen or else it'll...
SPOILERS:
...put you in the save state before the fall to get the password. Unless of course you'd just like to get the password to see disk 2, which is totally cool. It should be easier to see and not quit the game too early.
Thanks again and have a great day!
