A really unique approach on battling, I like it! I think the audio is made in Beepbox, if I remember correctly, it adds a unique flowing sort of energy to the whole game. I think it could have been more dynamic if there was some other sort of musical theme playing during the fight scenes, that would have made the first encounter much more pivotal and all other leading encounters more active.
Otherwise, a fun little proof of concept, reminded me of a 2D chicken Fight Knight. Good game!
Thank you for playing and your feedback!
I tried making a fighting soundtrack twice but it sounded way too happy and fun each time so I figured the fighting sfx would suffice for now haha
A very unique take on the theme, with some cool ideas! The graphics and audio are simple but it all works well together :)
Oh my, the first encounter switching to a boxing first person game was really surprising, great mechanic and congratulations on making that in 48h!! Really loved its uniqueness, it really stands out!
Thanks for playing! <3
First thing I went to figure out after the jam was a diagonal VERSUS transition, that would've fit well
I like the low pixel size pixel art, and the combat is pretty cool, but it feels a little slow and repetitive. Cool game overall.
Thank you for playing and your feedback!
This is a super fun take on the theme, and definitely not the kind of game I'd expect to see coming out of a 48hr jam (especially this well executed). It would be super cool to see an expanded version of this someday, because I think there's a ton of potential here! Great game and great job (also, second time using Godot?? Nice!)
Thank you so much for the kind words!
I'm considering remaking the whole thing without a roof built on hopes and dreams haha
I enjoyed the game. It reminds me of an old game boxing game where you have to time your punch. I wasn't able to beat the Rooster though. I have 2 hearts and he KO'd me in one punch lol.
Thank you for playing and your feedback!
The rooster is beefy as heck!
a virtual fighter with chicken so cool !
Love the pixel art !
Well done !
Thank you for playing <3
I see that, on every game I try, Chloe posts a comment that summarizes exactly what I would like to say. So, I have the same opinion as her.
Thank you for playing and the comment <3
I love this take on the theme! Very creative and unique. Well done for so many sprites and animations in such a short time.
For suggestions if you continue with this game:
- I like the music, but when it stops when you enter a fight, then starts again once you're back on the farm it gets a little repetitive of the same bit - as there's lots of fights to be fighting! I'd maybe make the music continuous, with the SFX of the fight loud enough to be heard over the top :)
- I know you have said in comments that it's placeholder sprites, but I think you could make the main character stand out a little more with either an outline around them or an area effect? Just to make him "pop" a little
- I'd like to see some UI to show if there's a cooldown for how often you can punch/block. It felt like there is a cooldown but I couldn't *visually* confirm it.
Overall, super cool game! I really like the fighting aspect and the whole creative take on the theme idea. Well done for doing so much in a short time, and thank you for joining our Jam!! :)
Thank you for playing and the loads of feedback!! I'll get myself acquainted with all the things that didn't work out as I had hoped now that the jam is over!
The first time I see a combat system of this style it reminds me a bit of the Wii games haha I liked it
Thank you for playing! Wii Boxing was fire!
The pixel-art style works well, nice game!
Thank you for playing! Unfortunately I was too caught up in technicalities to give all the sprites a shape-up!
Cool idea for a fighting mechanic! Controls feel a bit unresponsive during fighting, like when I'm trying to block but another animation is still playing so I can't.
Thanks for playing and your feedback
I haven't encountered that scenario yet, except you mean 'animation cancelling' or the occasional dead enemy throwing another punch?
Not sure, it's like when I press block right after attacking it doesn't register, so I have to press it multiple times.
Ahhh that's the block and attack cooldown timer so the player doesn't spam attacks every second!
They run separately so you can animation cancel to punch or block mid-animation if need be!
I didn't have the time to put in the UI to show what was happening, sorry about that
I love the fighting mechanic, very cool game!
Thank youuu, glad to hear!
Cool game !
A bit repetitive. You could make the threat level raise faster to encounter the new opponents earlier.
Minor bug report : The ui seems to slide over when you reach the sides of the level.
Apart from that, really nice entry. good job !
Thank you for playing!
Yeah, I found that bug too but figured it'd take way too much time to wrap my head around so I instead animated the fox!
Fun game, I like the low poly design! The only thing I found I bit annoying is that the game is kind of repetitive with fighting and all. Great work though!
Thanks for playing!
Cheers! The sprites were meant to be placeholders but time flew right by! haha
Any suggestions for the repetitiveness? What would you have liked more?
Originally the scenery was meant to serve as cover to hide behind but it was too technical for now!
Well your placeholder sprites were cool lol. For repetitiveness I think maybe just adding enemies that attack in differing ways and not all the same way. I know this game was on a time limit and that might have been hard to implement, but it's no problem!
