Really nice, but it feels a bit too slow.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yep, the speed issue is a common one

Submitted(+1)

As a card game enthusiast I'm surprised how much depth this game has. There are some balance issues like the attack being the superior choice as in no case scenarios do you lose value by picking it and therefore an obvious meta of discarding whatever you drew and copying an attack card, but hey, the enemy AI doesn't complain about imbalance.

Cool art design, lots of juice, solid gameplay, nice job.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! Yep, I also discovered the attack card meta while playtesting at the end but it was too late to add new cards sadly :')

this game is really amazing! it feels nice to play and the ai is kinda funny.

if you don't mind please check my game too!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Will do, I try to check out everyone's game who checks out mine :D

This game is so polished, really reminds me of Inscyrption

I love the gameplay, just wish everything was faster. It would be nice if everything did more damage or everything had less health. Because it can be slow at times. Other than that one of the best games of the jam, great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Very good feedback, thank you. The speed issue is something I will definitely work on post-jam ;)

Everyone keeps mentioning Instryption, guess I have to just play it lol

What is this game!? Its sooo good i had to check multiple times if im not on steam and bought it for 5 bucks. The amount of polish in this game is just insane, just thinking about it that you created this game in 82 hours is unbelievable. The game concept is easy to grasp and its for sure a unique interpretation of the theme. And as a fellow card game developer i have to see the variety of cards makes for a really interesting gameplay where you never have the same run twice.

To quote a person that touched my heart:
"Love the music, love the intro cutscene, love the characters and their lines"
"All around 10/10."

But if i could i would give it more than a 10 because it deserves more, cant wait to see you in the video jonas will make about this jam.

Edit: You did this all solo!? What are you?

Developer(+1)

Awwww come on you're too kind I'm gonna cry T_T

I'm so SO glad you enjoyed it this much. I didn't EXACTLY do it alone, I gotta thank 2dspessman again for helping me come up with the idea on discord during the first few hours :)

About the card variety, I was planning on adding even more! But ran out of time :')

Thanks again so much for the feedback, fellow card game developer <3

Super cool concept, I love how you went for this strategy card type of game but added the AI in a creative way. The visuals and sound effects are super balanced and I enjoy the gameplay a lot!

Amazing entry, definitely one of the best in this jam! :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I'm happy you enjoyed it :)

The game feels really polished. The art style is great i really like it, both the style and the color choices. The snarky robot and his sentences are well written and sometime his card choice and sentence don't really match up, but it makes it even more funny lol (Like when he choose 'Do nothing' and said 'Take this!' XD)

I love this concept and with more cards it can get really fun and engaging real quick. Really enjoyed playing it :D

ps: the enemies sprites are really top quality, i like them a lot

Developer

Thanks so much for playing!

This was one of my main goals for the dialog, so that it makes funny situations like that haha

You know how jam games go, I had more cards planned but just ran out of time :')

I'm so happy you like the enemy sprites, I spent my last burst of motivation making them two hours before the deadline and was so proud :D

  • I think having IQ’s dialog play in sync with its action would be more enjoyable long term then having to click through its dialog each time. (I spent most of my time waiting/clicking through IQ’s dialog/movements)
  • never have I found ‘larger hand’ to be a negative choice - nice reversal of expectations there
  • with a bit of UX improvement (removing all the clicking/waiting on IQ - get IQ moving a bit faster and remove the clicking through its dialog) I think you could have an interesting and fun game here. [it just ended up to slow for me because of this]
Developer

Thanks a ton for all the feedback!! I've seen others comment about the speed, I'll make sure to keep that in mind in the future!

As a big fan of Inscryption, I have to say this is pretty great! Great work with the audio and the visuals and the animations, and having the AI as a character with dialogue and a personality is splendid. It does feel like maybe the game's strategy is 'solvable', where every turn the best play is to discard a non-attack card and duplicate your highest power attack card. Upgrades for heals and defense cards might have made the decision-making a little more tricky.

Nitpicks:

  • I wish I didn't have to click on the dialog window itself to progress
  • It would have been nice to have some kind of indication how far along in the space dungeon I was (something like a, "Level 2/7")
Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Never played Inscryption, I'll give it a shot. I was going to add a full-screen hitbox to close the dialog but I ran out of time, sorry :/

You're right about the progress thingy, I should maybe add it in an update!

Thanks for the feedback

I was so confident this game was inspired by Inscryption for so many reasons 😆I can definitely recommend it, one of my all-time favorites! Based on the game you made, I'm guessing you might like it too.

Developer

Thanks for the recommendation :)

Submitted(+2)

I thought it was inspired by Inscryption too!

Very very cool, enjoyed it a lot. Maybe would have liked another booster earlier on as I got stuck quite a bit with the opponent having a shield and me having full health so really no valid move. But the game is just so polished and enjoyable.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! I ran out of time for balancing, sorry about that. I might add something to keep enemies from blocking too much, or some kind of combo card that defeats the shield

Easily my favourite game so far! This feels like a game you could sell if you added some more content! The idea is genius and expertly executed, and the art was beautiful! Great job!
I would really appreciate it if you could check out my game!

Developer

Hey thanks a bunch, this means the world to me! You must be Among Us from the discord! Your game was already in my To Rate list, just didn't get to it yet ;)

Submitted(+1)

Thats me! Thanks a lot! It's really hard to get people to play download only builds lmao

Developer

I feel ya :')

Submitted(+1)

I liked it very much! AI doesn`t feel like a random number generator, it`s like a real complex dumb AI.

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you can see the supreme intelligence and cutting-edge technology of High-Q :]

Ambitions game idea !

This is awesome!

The visuals are very well done, with good animations to follow. Presentation is clean!

This is a very interesting card game. I really enjoyed it, played it all the way to the end without wanting to stop. Had some moments of wanting the AI to choose a singular card out of 5 and then actually doing so, which felt great.

I like how different you need to think about your cards in this over a traditional pvp card game. Since you cant just hold a card for a certain reaction the same way in this game. My first fun realization is that drawing in this game is actually quite bad. Drawing does give you more options to choose from, but will also mess with the odds of what you were hoping to have happen.

There are a lot of ways to play out interactions as well. Lets say you have a shield and two swords and the enemy is going to heal. You could duplicate the swords and hope the AI doesn't use the shield because you'll want it later. You could duplicate the shield, which would increase the chance you have a bad turn, but lets you keep your defensive option. Or you could just delete the shield and make sure you hit. It all plays very nicely and has that extra layer of complexity that strategic card games thrive on.

I think that this game has a lot of room for growth, with more card types having different effects. Maybe some cards can effect other cards chances of drawing, and other chance modifiers. I would also love to see if the AI could have such an influence that you have to change your playstyle to what they are doing. Like maybe they could have different "moods", where sometimes they play more aggressive or defensive, etc.

It would be nice to see what the enemies damage is going to be, since trying to focus on defense when the attack was only 1 damage kind of sucked.

The AI text was very funny, and very much fulfilled "this AI is dumb but cocky" idea.

Amazing game! I would love to see more of it.

Developer

Hey thanks for the mountain of feedback! I'm super happy it turned out interesting to play.
I was planning to add more  types of cards but ran out of time sadly.. Though I hadn't thought of cards affecting chances of things happening! That's brilliant.
I didn't put the damage number in the enemy prediction cause I thought it would be more fun not to know, but at that point it's just more randomness on top of so much already. I might add that in a post-jam update or PJU as they call them (do they call them that?)
Thanks a bunch again!!

Developer

Hey, sorry to double-reply, I was going through the comments again.. What exactly did you mean by cards having chance modifiers? Did you have specific situations in mind? I'm having a hard time coming up with stuff that's not just like "next turn, have more chance of drawing this card!"

Submitted(+1)

That was the basic idea for it yeah.

Although, thinking about it now, I'm not sure how well cards that the AI would play would work with this. And the Duplicate and remove options essentially already do this, with nice trade-offs for picking either one.

I think chance modifier cards would only really work if the player had their own set of cards that only affected the AI's cards. Which I think could be a possible exploration in the game. So then maybe some of the players cards could be like : "Give an AI card a higher chance of being picked", "Give 1 AI card a higher chance of being picked, and 1 a lower chance.", "Swap the pick chances on two AI cards". Then duplication would also duplicate a cards chance.

I'm thinking the visuals for this would be that when you increase a cards chance it gets a + symbol on it, and - symbol for decreasing, and then maybe when you pass over to the AI, it shows all the cards base % of being pulled, then adjusts them for the +'s, and -'s.

Then you could also have more player cards like: "Prevent one AI card from being picked this turn.", "Pick an AI card, if the AI plays this card this turn, it will be played twice."

Just rough ideas, since an addition like this would increase complexity a lot, which may not be wanted. But I think there are lots of ideas for more cards through having player specific cards.

Developer

Man thanks a lot for the detailed ideas. I like the idea of a separate player hand since it would give more control, but yeah it would add a lot of complexity. I will explore prototypes once the base stuff is all balanced out and I'll definitely put you in the credits if I add something similar!! Thanks again :)

Nice and simple

Thanks!

Super fun and cute style

Developer

Aw thanks :)

Submitted(+1)

Super cool :) ( only " bad point " is that it was not responsive and so I could only see half of the text of the AI and hard to click at the bottom but otherwise super cool )

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks :D
If you have time could you help me figure out what happened? What platform were you playing on? The game is supposed to fit itself to the window, and there's two lines of text max in the dialog box. Could you only see one line?

Submitted(+1)

I was in chrome on my laptop when it happened, but I just gave it another try now and it fit better :) Maybe I was half scrolled and kind of been outside the window but not moving it, I let itch.io launched the game without moving and it fit well that time so probably was my fault :)
great game anyway :)

Developer

Oh I'm glad it worked! Thanks a bunch <3

Submitted(+1)

Nice Game, I especially like the color palette

Developer

Thanks so much! I spent a lot of time choosing one that felt right but it's mostly thanks to lospec :)

Submitted(+1)

Super well made game! in my opinion it could be a bit faster, but still well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I slowed it down after having my tech-illiterate dad play it, who thought it was way too fast. The best solution would probably be a button to speed things up :) Cheers
