Description
This is the soundtrack of a plateformer game : the concept is, a young girl, Emma, just moved from France to Yukon. She know nothing about snow, the pine forest, the new town she's in. She try to understand all thoses change with her childish eyes, and it translate by a daydream : the journey of a small artic fox in a snowy forest, fighting dark thought and everything that has ever scared Emma.

The first track, "By The Windows", is the title screen and the beginning of the dream : she imagine the small fox running in the snowy forest.
I tried to convey the mood of the little girl, and took inspiration of the OST of the game "Child of Light".

The second track "Owl Encounter" is the first level soundtrack : it start as a scary pine forest, dark and dangerous, until she encounter a funny big owl who will become her guardian.
I tried to convey the feeling of being alone, and using leitmotiv make it suddenly funny and reassuring. I took inspiration from the many goofy characters of the Zelda licence.

The last track "Monster Machine" is the first boss theme : Emma, while exploring her new home, found a nearby quarry. She saw one of the monstruous quarry truck, and it scared her enough for it to become her nemesis in her dreams.
The bossfight oppose the small fox and the giant machine, inhabited by demonic forces that make it alive.
I tried to convey the feeling of epicness and battle, and a little bit of doubt and fear, with a really "mechanical" feeling track , and used the leitmotiv from "By the windows" to make it epic.

Thanks for your attention ! See you to the next Jam !

Message from the artist
Sorry for my poor english, I'm a dyslexic french composer, I'm having a hard time !

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
I thought a cute little game about the inner world of a child who discover a new "world" by moving to a new country would be quite fun and pleasing.
It fit the theme in two ways : first, it's a journey in the inner world of Emma, and it's also her interpretation of the World around her.
It gave me the opportunity to explore the world of childhood, feelings, and fears.

"By the window" is calming but also feel a bit bittersweet, I always love snow themed tracks I like the instrumentation used here.

In "Owl Encounter" I feel a lot of the Zelda inspiration in the track. I liked the transition from spooky to a bit silly.

"Monster Machine" is cool and intense. The balance of wet sound feels very clean and the track has incredible clarity. I like how the beginning leitmotif of "By the window" is colored in a new context here.

This is a great soundtrack! Nicely done!

Really like the mood i got from the piano in the first part of Owl Encounter. Hadn't read your description yet, so the second part really caught me off guard. Really dig the percussion stuff on Machine Monster, some stuff almost sounds like typewriters.

I love the piano; it gives medieval vibes. The overall composition is very spoopy yet so chill and happy. I love the hidden SFX in the background, along with the strings being a prominent force within the compositions. It's complex, like Woolstone said, in a great way. It's a unique vibe that kind of gives Celeste vibes fr.

Complex composition. I was pleasantly surprised by the change of tone in "Owl Encounter" and I like how you kept all of themes continuous to each other. Great work!

The Switch in The Owl Encounter was so fun haha and Machine Monster gave me a bit of the vibe of DKC2 Final Boss (?). So far great work, my only criticism would be to work towards a slightly better library/sample election and programming so the writing can shine a bit more.

Super cool switch in the Owl Encounter! Really has the vibe of meeting a goofy character from Zelda ^^ This my favorite of the 3 I guess :)

Machine Monster had some really interesting progression toward the end with the "mechanical" beat, a well crafted track!

Bien joué ;)

You got me really good with that changeup in Owl Encounter lol. Then you got me AGAIN with that smooth devolution of the piano into the electronic masterpiece that is Machine Monster.

Really interesting and unique submission! Everything sounds fantastic, nice work!

This is gorgeous! I love how well the tracks give the feel of the levels they're for, and are really playful and fun - well done!

(I'm a big fan of owls too, so bonus points for them!)

i've been looking forward to listening to this since we spoke the other day!!
your opening track is BEAUTIFUL. i'm absolutely obsessed with how you wrote the piano at the beginning. you told a story using instruments and i'm so here for it.
the second track is my favorite. i love the eerieness of the introduction achieved by your use of strings and orchestral hits. the owl sound effect is a nice touch, and the transition to the more playful side of the song with the trumpet really showed the personality you gave the owl. you put a lot of thought into this track!
machine monster is precisely my kind of boss music. i love the mix of synth and orchestral sounds in this one!

you've made a lot of good choices in your OST!! this is for sure my kind of music. if i can be a little nitpicky bc ur OST is incredibly good, variation is key! owl encounter is one place you do a great job at this. machine monster is a great composition, but i noticed parts other than the melody lacked this variation. your track could be brought to the next level with more from other instruments. it keeps the listener engaged and adds intensity and personality to the song.

overall i really enjoyed this submission and i'd love to hear more tracks from you. keep it up!

First off I genuinely laughed out loud at the turn around in Owl encounter! Fantastic! Also really liked what you did building up to that. Great soundtrack! Machine monster has a great vibe! Really like the sound pallete you used there. Overal very nice compositions.

For constructive feedback, i would say the piano in by the window could have been a little bit tighter in terms of the mix. The lows feel a bit to warm/muddy and present/static. Also it feels like theres almost to much sustain pedal on there.  I think overal in terms of mixing it could do with a bit more expression in automation. Then again I don't really miss that in the other 2 tracks. I hope that that helps.

I've really enjoyed listening to it.

Beau travail!

Start of Owl Encounter reminds me night theme from PlantsVSZombies =)
Great music and feeling of progression there. Nice work!

I was NOT expecting that twist in Owl Encounter. Instant favorite so far! Great way of telling a story while also making 180's and still succeeding in keeping things cohesive. Reminds me of a ton of nintendo soundtracks. Well done!

ok i genuinely loved the vibes of this, especially the complete 180 mood shift halfway through the second song that had me actually laughing (in a good way, after all that seems to have been the intention). very cool and creative all around!

the tonal whiplash of the second song is amazing, the horror like theme at the first half turning to a whimsical and upbeat twist took me surprise.

The calm tune at the beginning of the machine monster turning to an intense mix is something I don't see often in boss music as a fake out tune switches to its main theme. I like that you still keep the orchestral flair with the violins in that song despite the mechanical and electronic tone its going for.

Amazing orchestration! I especially love the second one for how playful it is, but the other pieces are still exceptionally great!

Very catchy! I like how you interpreted the theme from the perspective of a child moving to a new country, it's so clever. Monster Machine is my favourite track, it's such a good earworm. Overall, amazing work!

When I got to Monster Machine, I felt like the idea of the soundtrack was coming together since it contrasts the other two. The music conveys the idea you've laid out for the story well.

Great work! You came up with a great theme and you know how to use it creatively again and again in your work! Only think I would criticise is orchestral sounds quality. I know that they are generally expensive but your skill demands better sounds! 😊
