wow, this was so cute and charming (at least as much as a cosmic horror can be xd)! really love the character art, the designs look really stylish and nice along with the fact that their idle expression changes adds that nice bit of flare to what could have been just a static visual novel, well done! love the set pieces and background art too, a lot of them have nice varying perspectives with very cool framing, looks pretty nice! also love the monster designs, both cute and threatening at the same time (also love the among us bone corpse in the library xd).

the story has a good bit of intrigue too, very cool mystery! you have the general intro that lays out both the tone of the story and the personality of cosmo pretty nicely. then as you enter the realm, you learn alongside cosmo the nature of this world their in while building your frame of reference towards what is regular in their own world (like theres magic and visions, etc.). theres a double layer of world-building to create a general understanding of the story which i like! there were a lot of instances where you either introduced a lot of terms/characters or laid a lot question-leading tidbits regarding aspects of the characters or the world (like what happened with cosmo in the past, what is his relationship with his brother exactly, etc.) that will probably get explained later to allow them to act as narrative hooks to intrigue the reader later on with a payoff, but for an introductory chapter i think it would have been nice if some of those questions got answer by the end of this chapter, especially on cosmo's end. we get to know the personality of cosmo in this chapter, but we spend most of the time reading what he does rather than why he does it if that makes sense? having a slight look into his motivations and his insight for the action he takes (or you choose), even if they are just vague hints towards his guilt for his past (at least from what i can tell), i think it would allow for more investment in the character rather than cosmo functioning as just a vehicle to drive the mystery.

overall, this was a fun read to go through, love the world that you've created so far! also love the campy banter that cosmo and ji-hu go through during their time together, it was very fun to read! saw that you were starting the second chapter, i'm curious to see where it goes! great work!

I like the art style quite a bit, I think it shows promise! Character's expressions show through clearly.

The premise is very interesting, and there are a lot of route choices, which is impressive to implement in 2 weeks. I kept dying alot on the bad end routes though (10/10 would play again)

I do feel that without audio a chunk of the experience is missing (or at least I didn't get audio when I played it). Of course, from my own fires, I know audio is really, really hard to do. My only advice then is to see if you can find atmospheric sound effects that can sell the effect of the moment decently enough.

Pretty solid visual novel! As others have pointed out, some background music would have definitely helped set the mood. Characters had interesting designs as well. Overall you got an engaging mystery there, good work!

Great art style and overall look of the game. I did feel some audio, even just some low-level music in the background would've helped set the mood in this too.

Well written story and I enjoyed playing it  and the pace was good - there did seem a few disconnects making it a little hard to follow sometimes, but kudos for the amount of work done in the time frame.

Great Job :)

A cool little VN with awesome art, especially considering the time constraints. Your art style is really nice, and to have the confidence to tackle a project that’s this art-heavy is really impressive.

I would’ve loved some music, or some ambient sounds even (like others have said I couldn’t hear anything despite volume sliders, although they might be there as RenPy defaults; I’ve never used it so I don’t know). Some cleaning up and polishing would be nice if you do end up continuing the project, like removing the option to click the options through Chapter 1 (such as room selection) twice, and some general proofreading, particularly with names.

The story was solid, if short, but I thought it was pretty good. I can’t wait to see how it continues, and if Cosmo and Ji-Hu will escape their shadow realm. I got all three current endings, can’t wait to see the rest. Overall I enjoyed reading and playing though :).

The story looks interesting. However, I feel the writing needs a little of polish. Most of the time, I felt like I started the second chapter, and the first one was somehow missing. I actually went and check if the game was the continuation of another one. This is because the characters are not introduced properly. For example:

  • Ji-Hu is first mentioned in "Where is Ji-Hu when I need him?". However, aside from his name and that he has a book, I have no idea who Ji-Hu is.
  • After that, It is mentioned that Cosmo must keep going because his brother is the one that can help him. However, just right after that, the next dialog is: "What has happened to Guishan", so I got confused, as I didn't understand that he was talking about the city, since the city's name is never mentioned in the writings until now. Yes, it is mentioned in the itch.io game's description (which I read later), but since is not inside the game, it gets confusing.  At this point, I have not made the connection of who's the brother. Guishan or Ji-Hu, or someone else.
  • After getting to the backdoor at the brother's house, Cosmo asks for two people: Ji-Hu and Sherbet. So it gets even more confusing. Until this point, who is the brother? Ji-Hu? Sherbert? Who was Guishan?
  • Then in the bedroom, Sherbert is sleeping in the corner of the room. But nothing else, so we still don't know who Sherbert is, or what it is. Because sleeping in the corner can mean various things:
    • A pet who is sleeping in the corner's floor.
    • A human who is sleeping in the corner floor for some reason (we are stranded in a weird world, people who is scared would usually sit in a corner to feel safe)
  • Then we leave looking for Ji-Hu and no explanation of who sherbert is or why are we leaving they alone.
  • At the office, Cosmo says: "Ji Hu, is that you? It's me, your brother." Right at this point, finally the connection was made, but it caused a lot of confusion until it was clarified
  • An then appeared Hakkun, which looks like a book, but is never explained what it is, is it just a book, is it a familiar.
  • Then Ji Hu says he is related to In-su, and again, nothing is explained of who In-su is.

This is why I say it feels the game is counting on me knowing already who all these characters are. With a proper introduction, the characters are better remembered instead of being abstract names. For example: the first point just needs something like this:
"Where is my brother, Ji-Hu, when I need him?" Ok, now we know who Ji-Hu is, and later in the text you can address him as "brother" or "Ji-Hu", and we will be able to make the connection.

As I said, the story is very interesting, just check those details for better story comprehension and it will be awesome. Best of luck!

Really lovely art!

Despite visual novels not really being my thing, I really enjoyed it. The story seems really interesting, and I’m interested on where it goes!

(Also, Cosmo & Ji-hu looks so pretty!)

I found the art very impressive and also how you used python/pygame I think? Is pretty crazy! I got an exception when I pressed escape in the load/preferences section. I'm not too much of a fan of visual novels, but the submission is pretty awesome. Good job!

Hi, I can there's a lot of content for a jam game and the art is pretty lovely :3333

As some comments pointed out, ambient sounds would help a lot the overall atmosphere, but I also read that you are already working on adding them and expanding the story so, very nice :3.

Very good job, good luck with it, I enjoyed playing it! <333

I wasn't expecting a visual novel, this is very interesting and I really like the art! I think some slight ambient sounds would help a lot. I noticed sound sliders in the settings but I didn't hear anything, so I'm unsure if that is on my end or if they hadn't got added yet

Very nice! Beautiful art and a very compelling story. I hope you keep working on it!

I would love to hear a soundtrack for this. The ambiance is perfect for some moody tunes.

As a fellow renpy dev, I'd love to hear your thoughts on my entry. Ciao!

VISUAL NOVEL FTW CANNOT WAIT FOR FUTURE INSTALLMENTS AND MORE BRITISH VOICE ACTING.... 🤨🤨🤨

THERE'S SO MANY CHOICES AND SO MUCH DIALOGUE FOR WHAT WAS DONE IN ONLY 2 WEEKS AND OFC SO MANY ALT VERSIONS OF SPRITES AND THE BLINKING ANIMATION  ?!??!! VERY VERY BANGER. I ALSO ATE UP THE BACKGROUNDS, THERE WERE SO MANY AND I ENJOYED HOW THEY CONTRASTED WITH THE ACTUAL CHARACTER SPRITES BY BEING A LITTLE LESS DETAILED IN ORDER TO NOT OVERWHELM THE SENSES WHEN PLAYING THE VN. THE COLOR CHOICES ESPECIALLY WERE PLEASING TO THE EYES AND AAAAAAAAAAAAA I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU PUT OUT NEXT AFTER THE JAM ☆*: .。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

Well made! Looking forward to the upcoming chapter! My only suggestion would be to add sound effects and background music in the upcoming versions to make it more immersive.

I already started working on adding audio  while working on the next chapter thankfully, I am glad you are looking forward to the next chapter, I had fun at least writing the plot I did get done!
