What do you like about your game?
This game put me to the test. I loved that I was able (I hope) to convey the creepy/confusing/disturbing atmosphere, main feature of any psychological horror, without resulting into a pure scary horror. I can say that I feel quite proud (and exhausted) of all my work. Also Acerola's videos motivated me to dive deeper into shaders, so I wrote a custom one that was very helpful in order to setup all the environment correctly. Good luck to everyone! :3

How i play the ball game ?

Developer

Hi, when you press space or left mouse click, a down force is applied to the ball, also a small force to the right is constantly applied to it as well regardless. You have to press down when the ball is about to go down a slope. If you get stuck in the middle of a wave, don't keep pressing down, do little presses so the ball has time to oscillate. If you keep pressing it will just get stuck in the middle.

If you still have problems with it don't hesitate to ask! Hope you get it to work <3333

This game is awesome!

Developer

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it <333

I liked the "going with the flow" wave ball thing, felt satisfying to hit those waves at the right angles. At the same time, it kinda lulled me into a sense of security so when that reveal hit I was like "omg nooo", very cleverly executed. The atmosphere was well done as well, I liked the spotlights in particular. Good job!

Developer

Thank you so much, the whole concept behind the wave ball game was to calm down, so it makes sense that it broke some of your tension and brought you some security. Thank you for your kind words, I will check out your game as well and give you some feedback.

Good luck with it! <3333

Very clever way of presenting things -- I really liked the use of the spotlight effect to convey scene changes. This felt super polished. The audio was a bit sparse (and I the volume was really low -- I think it might be worth sending the sound effects through a limiter so you can make sure the volume is evened out for everything), but other than that it was great. Nice work! :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much, I appreciate the feedback on the audio. I will look forward to it, as I didn't have much time to work on it. Thank you for playing it and giving me some tips, I will check yours as soon as possible!<333

A creative and quick experience that puts its few assets to good, efficient use. I find it really smart to put the gameplay in these lit little areas surrounded by darkness. Without detracting anything from the experience, it saves you the need to make a surrounding environment that would risk feeling empty if you didn't spend a lot of time populating it. The ball minigame and its physics were fun, though as some others pointed out, it was hard to know what to do until coincidentally hitting the blue line, and the long pause from the story (since the minigame is actually fairly difficult) harms the pacing of the game. The heartbeat in the background does a good job in actually making you feel tense, which was great. Overall, with the interesting story and tension, it gets a solid 8/10 in my book.

Thank you so much for playing the game and pointing out the design of the spot light areas. You actually nailed it, I designed my game like that in order to cut the amount of assets I should have done otherwise, without losing any experience, so I could concentrate more on polishing the rest of the game. I agree with the ball gameplay critiques. I will definitely adjust it in the future.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I will check your game as soon as possible too! <333

Very very good! I really like how minimalist the game is when it comes to assets in general. You have just a couple of models, very few SFX and no music and I'm pretty sure the game doesn't need more, in fact, it might have been worse! The darkness and silence really added to the experience, I can tell you polished to a high degree those little things, which is probably the right thing to go for in a game jam of this length. The only critique I would have is the lack of interactivity. There is very little gameplay, although I can tell this is by design I still think having some gameplay, maybe some exploration or choices usually makes these experiences stick more with the player. But hey, this is game jam and I can't  expect a high level of polish and also having more content. Great job overall!!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank you so much for your feedback <333

I agree with you on the lack of interactivity, in the future I will implement some choice guided narrative so the player feels more engaged!

I had to cut a lot of stuff I wanted to make in order to achieve a much shorter but polished result.

Thank you so much and good luck with your game! I will try it and give you some feedback as soon as possible. <333

Really liked the look and atmosphere of the game - I enjoyed the story parts too (although, they could do with being a bit snappier).

The ball game did take a while to get used to, wasn't sure what the input was for it at that point, but worked out space bar did push the ball, so eventually got it - would've helped to have some instruction at that point...

All in all, great job - really enjoyed it :)

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank you for your feedback! I definitely agree with you on the ball minigame, I will make sure to include some instructions in my future games. I played your game and I can say it is fantastic!

Good luck with it man <3333

Wow! I liked how you transition from one scene to another, seamless. This helps immersion as loading screens are also moments in which we invite the mind to disconnect for a while.

The art is great, you conveyed a lot of meaning with just a few polygons, and they are aesthetically pleasing. Did you use a color palette? Your minimalistic stage play looks very well balanced in terms of color, composition and proportions.

One thing that made me a bit mad was the sinusoid wave/ball phase. It works smoothly once you get the ball to get forwards, but I feel that it is too long, too much time without rewarding the player, so in spite is very good looking, it gets frustrating.

About the text, the cashier telling me to GTFO was a great surprise to stablish the theme. Although I would take care of hoy many dots (.) I used. More than three provoke too much noise. As Bukowski said, when you write is has to read "bang, bang, bang"; do not be afraid of using short, strong sentences that start with no dots and end with a single one ;)

Overall, quite a beautiful piece of art! You should develop it further. As I said, transitions made it really cool!

Developer(+1)

I appreciate you liked the transition choices. I my self find very important not to interrupt the immersion of the player splashing a big LOADING text icon directly into it's face. I did not use a color palette and went all in with gut feeling on this :).

I understand the frustration of the wave minigame, I really didn't have much time to balance it properly, I hope it didn't ruin that much the overall experience for you.

For the dots.............well...................you know..................(intended)

Yeah, I used them a little too much. I used them a lot in order to kind of guide the pace of the dialogue as I didn't have the time to implement a dialogue system with a customized text speed. I will definitely adjust those in the future!

Thank you so much for your constructive feedback, I will look forward to keep developing it!

I will check your game too as soon as possible <333

Submitted(+1)

it's a good game in general. Can't say i cared about the story. The only thing i could nitpick is that ball minigame could use some kind of clue as to what to do there if i hadn't noticed the ball moved down when i clicked the mouse i might have been stuck there for more than just a few seconds

Developer(+1)

Hi, I'm sorry the story didn't engaged you that much, I will definitely look forward to add more clues for the player next time I include a minigame/some sort of gameplay mechanics in my games! Thank you so much for your feedback and good luck <333

Submitted(+1)

I love this!!

Your atmosphere is wonderful! Great choice of sfx. In my headphone the heartbeat/pulse is a bit overpowering. Had to turn them down. But that's a small thing.

The lighting is marvelous. The story is captivating.

The wave challenge is is a bit of a break in vibe, but it's a great challenge and the physics are really impressive. It took me a while to get through it, but it was an enjoyable effort.

Brlliant!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank you so much for you feedback, the wave mimigame was indeed a little bit too hard, but I'm glad to see it didn't ruin your overall experience! Next time I will spend much more time balancing my gameplay mechanics to make them more enjoyable!

Thank you again and good luck <<33

Submitted(+1)

I am hungry, and I am an outcast! Wandering through the darkness, being miserable - the game picures that great.

What is unfortunate is that I can't finish it. I got stuck on the wave-ball puzzle. For the life of me I can't get this ball to move.

Developer (1 edit)

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that! The ball doesn't move at all or the level is too difficult? With left click/spacebar the ball moves down, the goal is to use this down force to surf the slopes and gain height, try to not press it always tho, but only when the ball is going down a slope. Let me know if you can get it to work! The rest of the game is really intense and I hope you are able to play it entirely <333

Submitted(+1)

As for the ball, I was quite confused how I am supposed to move it around. I think it bounces when I press space? When I got stuck in the wave I tried to rock it around using space, but it didn't seem to work. Sometimes ball would gain momentum, but sometimes it would not.  Over time it the momentum gain would get weaker and weaker. Eventually it would stop reacting to my inputs and stand still.

Developer

Wow, very weird behaviour, I never faced it during testing, when you press space only a down force is applied to the ball. I'm sorry that happened to you, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the game at least :(((

Submitted(+1)

Ooh! A Down force is applied? It makes so much sense now!
The curve gets shallower on the bottom, so that is why I was getting less and less momentum.
I was also probably not very good at pressing down in a way to not cancel the existing momentum. Which eventually led to a ball resting at the bottom of the curve, not reacting to my imputs.

Maybe make the ball standing still (or moving very slow) as a lose state? So it resets and we can try again (or show a game over). Because I had to exit the game with Alt+F4.

Developer

I'm happy you figured it out, next time I will make things much more clearer, thanks for your feedback <333

Even though short but I loved the presentation and gameplay

Developer(+1)

Hi, it definitely is quite short but I wanted to keep it as polished as possible and unfortunately I couldn't extend it as much as I originally wanted (sad :(  ). I'm still very happy that you enjoyed it!

Thank you very much for your feedback <3

Submitted(+1)

Screw you for including the ball game

Loved the rest of the game but I'm really sorry I had to quit once the ball game got to the last stage

Developer(+1)

I'm sorry you found that part frustrating, I knew it required some more balancing but I really had almost no more time left. I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of the game tho.

Again, I'm sorry, I will look forward spending more time balancing gameplay parts in my future games.

Thank you for your overall feedback and good luck! :33

Submitted(+1)

Yeah I totally get game jam balancing struggles haha

Your game is really impressive and I rated it highly

Developer

I just checked yours (finally some free time), and I enjoyed it a lot, It took me a while to find the key but I finally did it. The gameplay it's definitely on the harder side but no problem for me as I enjoyed it anyways :3.

I really liked the animations in particular, great job dude and good luck! <3

Submitted(+1)

Overall, quite an interesing game!

The atmosphere was on-point, and the story leaves you questioning what really happened!

Although I found the minigame for calming down a bit on the hard side, I overall enjoyed the game as a whole.

Developer(+1)

Hi, I'm very happy you gave me a feedback on the difficulty of the minigame, it was really stressful trying to balance it in order to make it not too hard but not too easy, actually it already went through numerous iterations of balancing during the development (it was much harder at the beginning [Thank god I decided to make it more easy .____. ] ). This minigame was the part of the overall game that had me the most worried, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't impossible. I hope it didn't ruin that much the overall experience.

I will check your game as soon as I have time, good luck with it and thank you again! <3

Submitted(+1)

This was a good game, I liked the little minigame you had to play to calm down. I also liked the atmosphere, all the animations where good as well. I liked the quick flashing glitch effects when you want back in your memories. It's cool that you managed to make all the assets as well, but I felt like the models missed some texturing, anyway, well done!

Developer

I'm happy you liked it, it also seems that you got all the parts right, I was scared it wasn't very clear that the minigame symbolized you calming down. I'm very happy with it. Regarding the textures, yeah, I kinda went for a very low poly style and didn't have much time for more detailed textures. I will surely keep an eye on it tho!

Again, thank you so much for the feedback and good luck, I will check your game too as soon as possible. <3

Submitted(+1)

Wonderful story telling, had me engrossed in it the whole way through. I usually always try to give some form of negative feedback which is actually a little hard to give to this one but perhaps if the game could have had some element of player interaction/gameplay. The story was wonderful and presented great too but But felt a little bit like I was reading an animated novel that I was flipping the pages for by moving around. Overall, wonderful work and I had a pleasant experience playing this game!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thank you so much for your feedback, I'm glad you liked it and I appreciate the criticism a lot!

Good luck and keep it up! :33

(+1)

I loved the creepy/anxious atmosphere that you created, and also that kind of uncomfort that the "story" conveys. I also appreciated a lot the gameplay part with that sort of heartbeat, really conveys the idea of trying to calm down, you did a very good job, keep it up <3

Developer

Thank you so much, I appreciate you liked it <3

I'm a huge fan of horror/creepy/psychol. horror games and tbh this one didn't disappoint at all. What I liked most is the environment (sounds, lights etc..) and the way it makes you feel sort of uncomfortably anxious about what is going to happen. Overall, well done :D

Developer

Thank you, I appreciate it so much ❤

Submitted(+2)

I think the game's atmosphere conveys what you are trying to achieve. I really like the game's pacing, and the lighting is a very good design choice. Make the player focus on only one thing. Very cool

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and in particular the lighting choice, I worked really hard to achieve that. Right now I'm busy but later I will check your submission and give you some feedback too. Thank you again and good luck!
