Love this game style, and your execution was brilliant here. Superb job, especially given the time constraints of the jam!!

How does your game represent Mode?
To defeat the aliens, you need to activate POWER MODES to get an advantage. But be smart about it, as activating modes disable movement.

Had a great time. A lot of very satisfying little strategic decisions, visual style is cohesive and deliciously crunchy, shotgun feels meaty. There's definitely room to tune up the difficulty a little, and the balancing is a little off, but that's to be expected of a jam game. Great job
Or I too dumb to convey it :) basically you click your units to select them and click the aliens to make the units shoot them. If you can shoot and kill all aliens in the 4 waves, you win. To get some more firepower, you can select a unit and click a power mode button, but this will also make them unable to move, so you will have to be smart about it. Hope this helps, and if you have any questions, shoot!
First try! I pretty much ignored sniper and heal once I saw I got the same damage from the rifle. (Already forgot what the arrows were Assault Mode)
Shotgun was used to hit the 100 HPs and I basically cheesed the hole to kill the boss.
It definitely had "Last Spell" vibes, but with Dead Space. And the modes definitely made it pretty strategic. More variety and story with more levels would be nice post-jam.
Really impressive artwork and atmosphere! Unfortunately, I couldn't quite make it through the final boss, but I did manage to get pretty close.
The use of modes was cleverly implemented, though I think the assault mode was pretty overpowered for most of the game thanks to its high number of shots and long range. I relied on it to the point that I was taken pretty off-guard whenever I had to actually change strategy.
I think that maybe shifting tiles with environmental effects might encourage more varied tactics and unit movements, since staying immobile near the center is a bit too viable for most of the waves, but that's just a spitball idea.
Overall it's an impressively polished entry!
Nice X-COM-like, the spritework nails that 90s PC game aesthetic
Great to see another Monogame submission, really impressive work!
This is really great! The retro tactics gameplay and aesthetic is amazing and the game plays how you would expect. Definitely feels well thought out with the balance between modes. I found myself using assault mode most of the time but the final wave really taught me a lesson. Amazing job!
Aw man, got really close to beating it! Really good job making this in such a short time. Feels pretty well balanced and thought out!
This is really cool and really polished! I wish there was a visual indicator over each squad member's unit that showed if they have actions remaining-- because the turn order isn't set I was always forgetting which ones I had already used. I like the way switching modes has big risk and reward.
I like the game design, risk/reward approach. Nice setting and mood. Great job!
I started playing thinking "ok, I'm gonna try it for a couple of minutes and then I give my rating"...and guess what, I've been playing for the last 32 minutes hahaha
The game feels a little like starcraft but for tuns, the style reminds me to the old school turn based games like Age of empires. And the mechanics are quite complicated, I don't think I would be able to pull out something like that myself.
I hope one of my games someday gets someone hooked as your game did to me haha
This is a fun one, the intensity ratchets up really fast, not a lot of games can create such a tense atmosphere this effectively. The Wilhelm scream is the icing on the cake, even if I have to lose a precious soldier to hear it. All of the sound effects are very visceral and contribute a great deal towards the sense of dread in the game, and that makes it so that when you pull off an effective strategy it's very satisfying, since you really feel like you're fighting for the lives of your soldiers.
Excellent work! The difficulty is well-paced and the atmosphere is fantastic. Very cool stuff!
I don't think this works on MacOS? I may be wrong but don't see a .dmg
Very fun i loved it, i liked the blending between the perspective and the artstyle. Good job!
