It was fun to frantically look for more things to suck up to get more power. the difficulty was fun

Developer

glad you liked it :) thanks for playing!

It was satisfying cleaning up the messy environments, but I feel bad for sucking up the cats... :(

Nonetheless, I had fun!

Developer(+1)

I had an idea for the cat - if you sucked it up it’d get stuck in your tube. You’d have to mash the space bar to spit it out and turn it into a projectile. Ran out of time for that.

Submitted(+1)

That idea sounds fantastic.

Fun and unique game, I thought the sucking was very satisfying. Thought the game was a bit too hard though, at least to start ramping up. It's hard to tell what you can and can't suck so you waste time sucking up things that are too big which only sets you back farther. And I love drum breaks as much as the next guy but with the amount of resetting, I did feel like I was going a bit crazy. Still overall a very cool game, the completionist in me is calling me to suck up everything!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I think if I cranked the difficulty way down then it would let the player get their bearings and figure out what sucks and what won’t. It can definitely use more jungle breaks too :)

Submitted(+1)

Probably a bit too hard to get off the ground, and even once I did, I couldn't find the last leaf or something that I was missing. Fun idea though! Shop vac eats world! :)

Developer

There seems to be a bug that prevents you from scoring 100%. But the ultimate goal is to find the exit. There you’ll find a few more achievements to chase. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I found myself fueled by a deep desire to suck up an entire 6 pack of PBR and couldn't be satisfied until I succeeded

Other than the collision stuff you already know about, I think the only real issue I was having was the speed the power decreased once the bar got to around half way depleted. I tried it numerous times on web and using the exe and it did look to start depleting faster once it reached that point.

If it ever dipped below that for any reason, it feels bordering on impossible to get it back up and this was a huge problem if I got stuck between a chair and the wall and the nearest pile of small stuff to suck would have me close to half depleted once I went down a size. Once I got the groove going though and figured out the "right" routes to take, the gameplay was very fluid (got stuck on a tiny key once though?!?!? crazy and very realistic tbh)

This also happened once when I was zipping through trying to see the full map and it would nooot return to me XD

Overall a very good job though, especially for picking up Godot for the first time! I know it's got a few peculiarities other engines don't. The art is charming and I can see the work that went into it.

Developer(+1)

Hey slogboat! Thanks for playing and such detailed feedback. You're amazing. I did not know that the power-meter depletes faster after halfway... I'd have to take a look at the code, it's supposed to be a constant speed! I'm sure my code would make the average programmer die a bit inside lol

Submitted(+1)

fun and i love the wobbly hose :) pretty hard as others have said, you kinda have to know the map before you can beat it!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm very proud of my wobbly hose :)

I really like the concept of this game it's pretty fun. I saw someone compare it to Katamari and yeah I definitely see the vision. The only thing is I found it tough to vacuum small objects, which I believe if that was remedied, the game would be fantastic. Very fun game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I wanted to remove collisions with the smallest objects but tbh, i couldn't figure it out because I'm such a godot noob! maybe in a future update.

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I like the idea, sort of like "Katamari Damacy". I did find it a bit fustrating to get stuck on all the tiny objects, it seem like you need more power to push things out of the way.

PS. Music was great

Developer

Thank you! I was desperate to fix the issue with collision on small objects. But I'm super new to Godot and I just couldn't figure it out. I wanted collision on objects to disable as you got bigger. Hopefully I can figure it out for the extended version coming soon.

Very cool! The art and gameplay is really nice and satisfying. I like how the power constantly drains so that you have to think quickly. I kind of wish though that the vacuum handle had a max speed behind the mouse so that it didn't feel as snappy and that the pull of the vacuum was stronger. Also my hand was cramping a little, but it was fun to play good job! :)

Developer(+1)

Great feedback, thank you! I did play around with max nozzle speed and the reach of the suction, but it's good to hear your thoughts. Thanks for playing.

pretty difficult. really fun. banger music.

Developer

thank you!!! i didn't even mean for it to be so hard. in hindsight my playtests were highly optimized runs because, well... I MADE THE GAME

Submitted(+1)

Harder than I first thought it'd be. I had 88%, sadly couldn't get big enough to get to the room in the north side of the house.

Developer(+1)

88% is a dang good score! A re-balance is on its way after the gamejam is over. thanks for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Reminds me of Katamari Damacy a little bit.  Good stuff!

Developer

Thank you! It was definitely an inspo

Submitted(+1)

average dorm room experience I'd imagine

Developer

probably better than the average tbh

Vacuum-type games >>>

i felt that the genre was under-represented

Submitted(+1)

The game reminded me of Tasty Planet. There are a few tweaks here and there, but the game has its own charm and interest. Keep working on it, it's cool!

I finally dusted it off.

Developer(+1)

I had to go look up Tasty Planet, it's like if Spore was a flash game. Very similar vibe! Thanks for playing. I will definitely keep working on it before I move to my next project :)

Submitted(+1)

nice game to play ! and have a good idea 🔥, i hope you will rate my game 😊🧡

Hey! I think I saw you post this early on in the discord asking what the idea could be made into. Glad you found a theme!

Developer

Haha I'm not sure if that was me?? Sounds like a good discord though link it up brother!

Submitted(+1)

Tasty planet but skillful (even though skill comes mainly from annoying collisions, the point stands). Got all 6 stars, and my final verdict: this game sucks

Submitted(+1)

If you still don't understand collisions enough, here's a quick rundown: there are layers and masks. Masks detect layers of the same value.
1. Mask of 1 will collide with layer 1, but not anything else.
2. An object with a mask but with no layers will get easily stopped and pushed around by other objects with a layer the same value as mask
So for your game, you could have the vacuum be all 5 masks at the start (from small to big) and different objects to be different masks AND the same value layer, depending on size as well. Once the vacuum grows, change the smallest mask into a layer of the same value.
If im not completely insane, this should make that vacuum pushes objects smaller than it is, but also get stopped by objects bigger.

Developer (1 edit)

The first person to get all 6 stars, congrats! Thank you for playing it until the end. The collisions annoy me too...
My intended idea was having the smallest objects have no collision with the player, that way you could run right over them. When you get big it gets really difficult to see the small objects, and unrealistic that they'd stop you.

When I disabled collision layers and masks though, it'd make running into small objects fly all over the place. I really couldn't figure out how to make no-collision happen. This was tricky because the player's nozzle needs to still interact. On top of that I had certain objects like tables and counters that needed to let other objects sit on top, exit, then not return, all while colliding with the player.

On my last attempt to get it all working I nearly broke the whole damn game and decided to leave it and move on.

Submitted(+1)

it do be like that, very nice game nonetheless!

Submitted(+1)

I love a good katamari like, but it just felt I could never grow fast enough. The scatters of all the trinkets around the house was great to explore, but I was sad I couldn't have made it further out.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and sorry about the difficulty! That's my biggest regret so far. I plan to fix that and release an update soon with more content.

Even though I suck at this game (appropriately) it is a very good time. I really like that all the pieces of trash have hitboxes that you have to contend with even when they're tiny, it adds to the chaos when I'm frantically trying to avoid my power hitting 0 and die cause I foolishly drove into a dust bunny I wasn't looking out for

Developer(+1)

I spent WAY too much time trying to make the little dust bunnies something that you don't collide with. But still do in the sense that you can suck them up.
I'm new to godot and this was my first substantial project, and holy smokes the collisions stuff still doesn't make much sense to me.
Glad you enjoyed it though. Thanks so much for playing!
